NEW RELEASE HIGHLIGHTS We are excited to announce the addition of three new labels to our roster: Real World Records, Le Label and Rubicon Classics. Aurelio’s Darandi is our first new title from Real World. It celebrates the Honduran musician's thirty years of championing Garifuna culture. Le Label presents Sonho Real, the third album from Brazilian singer Flavia Coelho and the first release on Rubicon Classics features the recording début of French pianist Julien Brocal playing an all-Chopin program. On Aparté, Swedish mezzo Ann Hallenberg joins Christophe Rousset to perform arias from Gérard Corbiau's 1994 Academy Award nominated film Farinelli. On Belvedere DVD and Blu-ray, Yo-Yo Ma joins Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Strauss's Don Quixote and the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst perform Brahms’s German Requiem with soloists Hanna-Elisabeth Müller and Simon Keenlyside. On Channel, the great baritone Thomas Hampson is accompanied by Candida Thompson and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta in an album of newly commissioned arrangements of songs by Brahms, Schubert and Wolf. On harmonia mundi, choral superstars Stile Antico perform a selection of Giaches de Wert’s early motets that exemplify the composer's extraordinary counterpoint. Cellist Emmanuelle Bertrand and pianist Pascal Amoyel offer passionate performances of Saint-Saëns's Cello Sonatas and Trio Wanderer revisit their first great recording success with dazzling performances of Dvorák's last two Piano Trios. On Onyx, German cellist Leonard Elschenbroich explores the chamber music of 20th century master Alfred Schnittke and Vasily Petrenko leads the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in the second and final volume of their critically acclaimed Tchaikovsky symphony cycle. New in jazz, Edition presents Godspeed, the hi-octane new album from Danish keyboardist Morten Schantz.

With more than one million copies sold, the soundtrack of Gérard Corbiau's 1994 Academy Award nominated film Farinelli contributed to the international success of Les Talens Lyriques. For the film, in order to reinvent the voice of Carlo Broschi, known as Farinelli, a computer was used to mix the timbres of countertenor Derek Lee Ragin and coloratura soprano Ewa Mallas-Godlewska. For this stage production, music director Christophe Rousset chose mezzo Ann Hallenberg to portray the first rock star in the history of music. This program, recorded in concert in Bergen, mixes the emblematic arias of the film with other works from Farinelli's repertoire, and the libretto gives audiences a peek into the exciting life of the extremely famous castrato.

Carlo Francesco Cesarini was one of the most important Italian Baroque composers as well as a virtuoso violinist also known as Carlo del Violino. His six cantatas, receiving their first recording here, were regularly performed between 1700 and 1717. They are all taken from Manuscript 2248 of the Biblioteca Casanatense in Rome, a rich anthological collection assembled for Cardinal Pamphili, a major figure in Roman cultural life. These major rediscoveries are performed by soprano Stéphanie Varnerin accompanied by the ensemble L'Astrée led by Giorgio Tabacco.

In February 2014, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and baritone Thomas Hampson toured a unique program entitled Tides of Life that featured songs by Brahms, Schubert and Wolf in newly commissioned arrangements for string ensemble and baritone written by English composer David Matthews. The practice of orchestrating older, preexisting songs became the vogue in the nineteenth century, coinciding with the blossoming of a whole new genre; the orchestral song. Composers such as Mahler, Wolf, Berlioz, Liszt and Strauss wrote songs for piano. On this recording only Samuel Barber’s Dover Beach remains close to the original. Composed for string quartet and baritone, the song is heard here in a version for baritone and string orchestra. This recording celebrates the years long collaboration between the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Thomas Hampson in bringing the great song repertoire to new audiences in a new manner.

"That’s it done at last, this blasted sonata! Will it please or not? That is the question." So wrote Saint-Saëns, not without humor, of his second cello sonata. He composed three, but unfortunately the last two movements of the third sonata survived only in manuscript. Emmanuelle Bertrand and Pascal Amoyel play these works with passion and respect. Only three books of motets were released in 1566 and 1581. Pierre Monteux leads the London Symphony Orchestra in RimskyKorsakov's popular Shéhérazade. Completing the program are the composer's String Sextet in A and the Quintet for piano and winds featuring Ivan Klánsky. Both works were composed in 1876 for a competition organized by the Russian Musical Society. Rimsky-Korsakov's said of the results "The jury commended my sextet but ignored my quintet." Julien Brocal was born in Arles, France in 1987. He began piano lessons at the age of 5, and by 7 was performing on stage. In 2013, he was mentored by Maria João Pires at Cité de la Musique in Paris, and later she invited him to develop his projects and studies at the Queen Elisabeth Musical Chapel. Since then they have performed together at many of the world's leading festivals and venues. On his début recording, Brocal presents an all-Chopin program. Both the Prèludes, Op.28 and Piano Sonata No.2 were composed between 1838 and 1839 and coincided with the beginning of Chopin's relationship with writer George Sand and their infamous winter sojourn in Majorca. During this period, the couple's mood changed from happy to tense, his health worsened, and the weather changed from warm sun to cold, relentless rain. All of these changing moods are reflected Brocal's stunning performance.
