Visual Arts

Visual Arts Food for Thought

Deliberately Ambiguous

Five exhibitions respond to food in all its complexity, from the celebration of the meal to food politics. 27 artists create new work in craft, design, photography and installation that explores our relationship to the food we eat.

Our five winter exhibitions feature artists defying categorization. Highly aware and engaged with contemporary culture, these artists embrace it all. Our feature exhibition, Non-Objective, highlights the achievements of our Craft & Design Studio with many past and present Artists-in-Residence. This exhibition confounds specific readings of the craft “object” and happily engages in ambiguity.

Forage, Food for Thought

The Power Plant Fall Exhibition

Winter Exhibition

The Power Plant presents three solo exhibitions by international artists that explore Toronto’s position in the global conciousness. Dora García’s I SEE WORDS, I HEAR VOICES, curated by Chantal Pontbriand, explores facets of the artistic experience, language, perception, and literature. Carlos Amorales’ stunning installation Black Cloud, curated by Christine Shaw, blurs the boundaries between beauty and awe. Mark Lewis’ Invention, guest curated by Barbara Fischer, is his most ambitious project to date, centred on three new works shot in Toronto.

Delve into the interdisciplinary world of film, photography, sound and movingimage with installations from artists Patrick Bernatchez, Leslie Hewitt and Aude Moreau.

Looking for Paul: Inez van Dam vs. the Buttplug Gnome Wunderbaum
