I made a rule a long time ago that I would only buy four gallons of milk a week. And when it was gone, the kids would just have to do without for the rest of the week. Why four gallons? Well, we have four kids. So that’s one reason, I guess. It’s also the amount that will fit comfortably in our refrigerator door so we don’t have to clear out space on the shelves. And it’s just so expensive here in Florida! I get jealous of my sister in Michigan who not only has the same gallon of milk in her refrigerator for nearly two weeks, but she also only pays $2.50 for it! But if I personally will only buy four gallons a week, that doesn’t actually mean that my family will only have four gallons of milk a week. My husband happens to be something of a pushover, and my kids know it. So long ago, they stopped asking me to get more milk every 36 to 48 hours and started asking him instead.
Cashier: “Weren’t you just in here yesterday?” Rodney: “Yes, I was actually. Why?” Cashier: “Because you bought four gallons of milk then too.” I guess buying four gallons of milk at a time isn’t exactly normal (even though it feels that way to us). And doing it two days in a row is even less so! She suggested that we will be able to save a lot of money when school starts this month and the kids are out of the house for several hours each day. And she’s right – we should definitely be able to cut back to just 10 to 12 gallons per week. Until next time,
