Orientation

Required for all new troop volunteers. This session is done once an applicant has been approved to be a volunteer. It is an in-person session that prepares new leaders on the basics of starting a troop. You will learn how to: register girls and adults, set up a bank account, handle emergencies, use safety activity checkpoints, develop family support, conduct your first meeting, and much more! Your orientation will be scheduled by your membership marketing specialist, regional leadership and learning specialist—volunteerism, or volunteer service team manager.

Girl Scouting 101

Required for all new volunteers; recommended for returning volunteers. This is a 45-minute, self-paced online orientation to Girl Scouting. This training is for new Girl Scout volunteers or returning volunteers who want to brush up on areas of interest. Topics covered are Girl Scout basics, Girl Scout Safety, the National Program Portfolio, The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting, and much more. This training is also available on DVD; see the Trainings On Request section (page 46) for more information.

1. Visit the website training.girlscouts.org and click on Girl Scouting 101. 2. Enter the password for this training: aboutGS101. 3. Enter your contact information and select our council name, Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, as prompted. Your information will be sent to us so we will know you have completed the course.

CPR/First Aid

Required for at least one adult per troop/group. Adults acting as primary first aid providers for Girl Scout activities must be certified in first aid and CPR to meet Girl Scout safety standards. New and experienced leaders, assistant leaders, and other registered adults may attend this course. Note: CPR/First Aid offered through any other agency must be approved by GSMH PRIOR to attending the course. Participants should bring pencil, paper, a blanket, sack lunch/drink, and their Girl Scout training card. Pre-Requisite: None / Minimum Participants: varies per facilitator / Cost: $35

Reference Cards will be available for purchase the day of training for $3 each.
