EDITOR S L E T T E R

Our sixteenth edition focuses on sportswear. This prime trend has been evolving season after season. Fabrics familiar to athletic wear, such as neoprene, mesh and nylon are being paired up with minimalistic, sports-inspired silhouettes. We begin our sporty editorial journey with Vibe Johansson’s ‘Coil’ collection. We chose to showcase the collection’s total white pieces that inspire purity, suitable to the simplicity and clean aesthetic of sportswear. In our second editorial, we focus on architectural silhouettes and effortless layering, with a contrasting black and white colour palette. The abstract print design on Julija Moroz’s collection pieces, illustrates various yoga postures and is representative of alternative sportswear-inspired fashion. For our third editorial, we combined sophisticated, feminine pieces with dynamic sportswear elements. The romantic and sensual silhouette is contrasted by high-tech fabrics, appropriately embodying this season’s multifaceted trend. Lastly, our issue concludes with exclusive coverage of Copenhagen Fashion Week SS15 collections.

For SS15, VIBE JOHANSSON returns to the anatomy of exoskeletons. Incorporating innovative ways to dissect our silhouette. The deconstructed wanderers sport tactile layers, fused with sharply tailored uniforms. Effeminate, yet powerful, the garments embrace geometry and body architecture. Incorporating traditional Japanese techniques, such as Boro and Saki-Ori, each piece is meticulously constructed, boasting intricate utility. A functional selection of linens, lush silks, sturdy tech fabrics and breezy poplins are arranged lightly for spring. Immersed in the quiet deep, bright whites shape the solemn backdrop to the collection. Noticeable is the textural interplay, with surfaces appearing distressed, even mutated as sartorial shielding. Protective utility is key for SS15, visible in the edited coats, elongated dresses, sharply cut tops and lush pantaloons.

Deeply fascinated by modern architecture, structured lines and geometrical shapes, designer Julija Moroz managed to create a dynamic, sportswear-inspired capsule collection. The black & white palette and the contrasting interplay between the two opposite colours, illustrate a refined and balanced minimalistic mood, perfectly in sync with this season’s monochrome trend. The hand-printing technique featured in Julija’s collection, depicts various yoga postures that represent the designer’s personal style and aesthetic, as well as her perspective towards the influence of sports trends on contemporary fashion.

The drastic influence of sportswear on fashion, forced legendary houses like Chanel and Dior to take notes and create unique pieces and collections that have a sporty core. Isabel Marant and CÊline started this trend a few years ago by introducing wedge-sneakers and slip-ons and then rapidly moving onto sliders and entire collections inspired from sportswear. The unexpected urge for athletic-inspired pieces was underlined with Alexander Wang’s H&M collaboration, a capsule collection featuring gym attire with a fashion twist. We were inspired by the aforementioned designers and wanted to present a fusion of feminine fashion and activewear, with micro-minis paired up with cropped-polos and feminine dresses contrasted by neoprene jumpers. In our editorial story, the men’s overcoat takes on a feminine look, while elements like fringe detailing and soft, relaxed silhouettes are transformed when paired together with sleek, minimal and luxurious high-tech fabrics and old school attitude.

The Plumen 002 uses a unique bulb design to bring style and warmth to any space. At first glance the form is minimal, but on further inspection the sweeping shape reveals light gradations that are essential to the subtle glow it produces. The 002 works beautifully in series or alone, whether in a pendant, table light or wall sconce. Low brightness means the cozy, intimate light requires no shading. Created as an efficient and cost effective alternative to Squirrel Cage filament bulbs, it’s perfect for any space where you might otherwise use an incandescent bulb. The Plumen 002, just like the 001, uses 80% less energy than a regular bulb and will last 8 times longer. Another designer light bulb from Plumen that is efficient, beautiful and affordable.
