for kids, teens and adults

Be a Hummingbird Even the smallest creature can make a big impact Explore themes of environmentalism, responsibility and courage through GVPL’s Be a Hummingbird series, a curated collection of programs inspired by Haida author and artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas’s book Flight of the Hummingbird.

The Book Flight of the Hummingbird is based on an Indigenous parable from the Quechuan people of South America and tells the story of a little hummingbird doing what it can to save its forest home from a great fire. Yahgulanaas’s text is accompanied by his unique Haida manga art, a blend of the iconic style of the Indigenous people of Haida Gwaii and Asian manga.
