Pride Achieving Zero Defects for Elective Deliveries In June 2012, MaryAnne Goodwin, RN, Maternal and Child Health nurse manager and Margaret Mitchell RN, LC, attended the Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses National Convention in Washington DC and presented a poster on Achieving Maryanne Goodwin Zero Defects for Elective Deliveries Before 39 Weeks Gestation through the use of quality improvement processes involving education, tracking of data, and strict enforcement of clinical practice policies. Results on elective delivery before 39 weeks gestation are publicly reported and Franklin Memorial Hospital has had zero defects for four consecutive years. Numerous professional associations and The Joint Commission recommend that no elective delivery should be performed before the gestational age of 39 weeks. In June, the Professional Development Council recognized 36 employees for earning advanced degrees and certifications in the past year. The mission of the interdisciplinary professional council is “fostering opportunities for professional growth through lifelong learning.”
