Mark your calendars for GrapeFest September 16-19, 2021

The “Must Be Present to Win” Drawing continues its climb. With Wendy Askew with Judy Pie not in attendance for the April luncheon, the prize is now up to $1,150 for June. Each month at the Chamber’s Membership Luncheon, the drawing grows by $50 as long as the person whose name is called is not in attendance. To win, all you have to do is show up and hear your name be called! How easy is that? All Chamber members are eligible to win.

GRAPEVINE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EXECUTIVE BOARD

It’s June, 2021. Can you believe it? We are 15 months past the initial “shut down” of our businesses and community due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So much has happened in that relatively short period of time that it is frankly hard to believe where we are now. On March 13, 2020 we heard that everything was to be shut down in the State of Texas if not “essential”. I do not know that I will ever hear or think of that word in the same way. Used to be I thought of essential as the air we breathe and the need for water to survive. For me, essential was my family, my faith, my employees, and my friends. But since that Friday in March, essential has become a word that means survival for businesses and survival for families who depend on paychecks from those businesses. Essential is the need for communication to be open between elected officials and our community. Essential is the Grapevine Chamber and all of the businesses who make up our Chamber. So much had changed in the last year, that your Board realized that we were do so much more than “promoting business that adds value to our community”. They recognized that your chamber was essential during one of the most challenging events in world history and came up with our new Mission Statement which is “to collaborate, communicate, connect, and advocate for business to add value to our community”. The last 15 months have proven that we need each of you, that we need our business community to be strong and our faith to be even stronger. As Duff O’Dell said in her invocation at the Chamber luncheon, we began to really appreciate all that we have such as family, the ability to meet together and how important it will be for us to remember that as we move forward, rebuild and become renewed. We are excited to look forward as we continue to work with each other to move beyond the pandemic, to create a stronger community and work together! Our Board and staff look forward to serving our community with essential businesses like you!

Summer is Here! Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make the 2021 Main Street Days Festival a success! What a hard-working group of people working through all kinds of challenges to put on this event for the community. Can’t wait to see the next events (and Grapefest in the fall)! As we approach summer here in the Women’s Division, we are getting ready for back to school in GCISD. The Women’s Division firmly believes that every child is entitled to start the new school year equipped with sufficient supplies to be prepared to learn. We are readying school supplies for the Back-to-School Fair which will be held on Saturday, August 7th. This project is one of the top priorities of our philanthropic efforts, and we are grateful to be able to make a difference for every one of these students. Dates have been set for our two main fundraisers this year. The Great Taste of Grapevine will be held at the Hilton DFW Lakes on Thursday, October 14th. The Elves on the Run 5K and Fun Run will be held on Saturday, December 4th, at Oak Grove Park. Please put these both on your calendar and join us for these fun events. If you or your business would like to get involved with either of these events as a sponsor, please contact me at sssmith33@me.com or Janice Kane at msjkane1@gmail.com . Our next Women’s Division luncheon will be at the new Vineyard Ballroom of the Courtyard DFW Airport North, on Tuesday, June 8th, at 11:45 a.m.. Our sponsor for the month of June is Clydene Johnson, on behalf of the Kathee Livengood Scholarship. Our attendee Honey Pot drawing is up to $150 this month—you can’t win if you’re not there! Visitors are always welcome, and signup for the luncheon is on the Chamber website. I hope we see some new faces there!
