Grapevine & Your Chamber Are Still Open for Business Have to say, writing this newsletter from the ‘c o m f o r t ’ ( r e a d , isolation) of my home office is not exactly what I had in mind for the month of April as your Chamber Chair. Thank God for my personal assistant, Mr. Big:

That said, wanted to let you know that – COVID-19 be hanged – YOUR Grapevine Chamber is still hard at work advocating on our businesses’ and citizens’ behalf. Even though some of the Chamber staff are working remotely, RaDonna and Michael are in the office – at least 6’ apart – and via ZOOM conference meetings, the business of the Chamber is still being conducted. I want to share with you some of their daily assignments: Member Calls - together with

our Ambassadors, staff has divided up the membership list to enquire how we may be of assistance during this challenging time and just to listen to those who need to connect. Meetings/Seminars – We are working with some of our committees who want to set up ZOOM meetings. The AMP’T Board had their meeting yesterday. The Women’s Division Board has one scheduled for next Tuesday, the Ambassadors will be Zooming on Wednesday and more are being scheduled. Besides keeping our committees connected, we are also working with SBA, SBDC and SCORE to create ZOOM seminars to assist businesses during this time.

pertinent info that has come through that will provide information and assistance for businesses and citizens. Conference Calls – RaDonna is in touch regularly with the City of Grapevine Emergency Management Team, as well as state officials to get the latest information on how to assist in recovery, state and national Chambers and other groups to stay on top of latest intel and community assistance opportunities.

Invoicing – Per the Executive Board, membership invoices are still going out, however, we have approved the ability for the time being to extend your dues dates for up to 90 days. It will be important for our business community to still be involved and engaged as we come out of Information Sharing to this together! Connect Members – If you haven’t checked our website Community Calls - Your lately, we have created a Chamber staff is also COVID-19 page (https:// fielding calls from not only www.grapevinechamber. businesses, but concerned org/covid-19/). by saying how proud I am of our wonderful community. There are so many wonderful civic groups – Grapevine Rotary Club, AMBUCS, GRACE, Metroport Meals on Wheels, VIPs to name a few – and individuals that go out of their way to think outside the box to help our first responders, local businesses and citizens in this time of great need. We are so fortunate to live and work in a community that cares and supports each other so much. Please do not hesitate to let me, RaDonna or other board members know if you know of an area where we might be of service. We are all in this challenge together and will get on the other side of this with love, humor and positivity! God Bless Grapevine!

You don’t realize what you will miss until its gone. While it is great today to drive down the roadway with little traffic, the fact that there is no traffic is a reminder of the crisis facing our businesses. The last time the roadways were so empty, was also the time that there were no planes in the sky. 9-11 was a time in our history that scared even the most hardened soul, and this pandemic is no different. Whether you believe in the severity of the situation or not, the cause and affects are being felt by every citizen, business, city, state and federal government around the world. The “norm” for us has changed dramatically. But with other disasters, we have become adaptable to change, innovation, creativity, and support for our fellow man. This is the time where we find the true spirit of Americans, and especially Texans, as we see people helping people and displays of humanity in our communities that gives us hope for the short and long term.

footprint and translating our physical businesses to online, as we find new ways to relate to our members, customers and community. When this is over, our new norm will have expanded from what we knew, to what we now know. Your Chamber is no exception. We have tried to expand our ability to share accurate and helpful information. We have worked hard to disseminate fact from fiction, and to find ways to help our business community. We are learning daily on what is needed, and how we can help share resources to make the largest impact on those around us. We have learned skills we never thought we’d need, technology we never thought we’d use, and patience (well, I am still working on that one!).

You really don’t know what you will miss until its gone…, but thankfully I know that there will be an end to this virus, that we will see a future with our businesses once again growing and Local business and industries are relying on the thriving, and we will be able to share a hug guidance from the Centers for Disease Control with each and everyone one of you. To help people facing the challenges of COVID-19 issues, the Internal Revenue Service announced a sweeping series of steps to assist taxpayers by providing relief on a variety of issues ranging from easing payment guidelines to postponing compliance actions. These new changes include issues ranging from postponing certain payments related to Installment Agreements and Offers in Compromise to collection and limiting certain enforcement actions. The IRS will be temporarily modifying the following activities as soon as possible; the projected start date will be April 1 and the effort will initially run through July 15. During this period, to the maximum extent possible, the IRS will avoid in-person contacts. However, the IRS will continue to take steps where necessary to protect all applicable statutes of limitations. “The IRS will continue to review and, where appropriate, modify or expand the People First Initiative as we continue reviewing our programs and receive feedback from others,” Rettig said. “We are committed to helping people get through this period, and our employees will remain focused on these and other helpful efforts in the days and weeks ahead. I ask for your personal support, your understanding – and your patience – as we navigate our way forward together. Stay safe and take care of your families, friends and others.”- IRS Media Relations Office Washington D.C.

Staying Connected With Customers Through the Coronavirus Outbreak Your customers may be on self-quarantine, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay connected and continue providing excellent service. Here are a few smart strategies for brick-and-mortar businesses looking to keep their audience engaged and in the loop, even if they’re self-quarantined or avoiding public places. - Let customers know what you’re doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19: Send an email to your customers and post signage in your store to assure them that you’re doing everything you can to protect their health when they visit your store. Share any increased cleaning, disinfecting and hygiene protocols you’re following, and let them know that you are enforcing selfquarantine among any employees who might be experiencing symptoms. If you are altering your hours or closing your store for a deep-clean, you should let your customers know that, too. - Increase your social media presence: Your customers are already on social media, but they are likely checking in much more frequently to get the latest updates on the virus. Whether you’re posting about the virus specifically or trying to offer light, positive content to help take people’s minds off the panic, it can be helpful to increase your posting frequency to ensure you are showing up in their news feeds. If you operate a service-based business like a restaurant or a salon, you may want to consider offering online sales of gift certificates. - Offer online deals: If your business already has an e-commerce component, remind customers that they can still shop for their favorite items on your website. It might even help to offer a coupon

or discount to encourage online shopping while your customers are staying home anyway. If you operate a service-based business like a restaurant or a salon, you may want to consider offering online sales of gift certificates. Encourage your customers to buy a certificate now, so they can treat themselves and redeem it when the virus outbreak has slowed and their self-quarantine period is over. This can help maintain sales for you, while giving your customers something fun and exciting to look forward to. - Stock up on sanitizing products and make sure people know where to wash their hands: For those customers who do come into your store, it’s important to enforce good hygiene practices and encourage everyone who passes through your doors (customers and employees alike) to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19. If your store has a restroom for customer use, put up extra signs pointing them in the right direction to wash their hands, and post the CDC’s guidance in the restroom. If not, you may wish to offer hand sanitizer near the front of the store for customer and employee use. - Focus on serving your customers through digital channels: You may already offer phone and email support to your customers, but now is the time to increase your customer service capabilities and ensure your patrons can reach you — no matter where they are. Social media is a good place to start, as you can offer the option to chat via Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and other instant messaging platforms. You can also offer video conferencing options through Skype or FaceTime, so your customers can get that “face-to-face” feel without actually being there in-person. Dear Friends,

I hope you and your family are well. As you would expect, the City has been aggressively addressing the COVID-19 outbreak that the World Health Organization declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. This pandemic has suddenly limited our daily lives in a way we likely never imagined. Though it has forced modifications to our lives and livelihood, we are a great community and together, we can do our part to slow the spread and flatten the curve dramatically. I am incredibly proud of the people of this community who have responded so orderly, so professionally, so completely in the face of this crisis. You have listened to the advice given to you and incorporated it into your daily, family, and business lives. You have shown concern for your neighbors, the elderly, and all of those that are most vulnerable. The fact is washing hands, disinfecting, and social distancing are the new normal. We will get through this together. Please stay tuned to our City website, GrapevineTexas.gov, our social media platforms, and our Grapevine Cares hotline at 817.410.4455 for up-to-date information as more unfolds. We stand ready to help our business community and families get back on their feet. Stay encouraged, Grapevine.
