Can I Make a Difference?

The answer is YES! The 30th Annual Main Street Days was a success because of YOU! We greatly appreciate those who were able to volunteer in the Grapevine Chamber’s Concession Trailer and Beer Booth. My family and I always have such a great time serving together at Main Street Days and GrapeFest. I made a commitment a long time ago to make serving a priority, and I am often reminded of a quote I

heard from a news anchor: “It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.” - Tom Brokaw It’s so true. If you’re like me, you have a lot of events competing for a slot on your calendar. As soon as I commit to something, I have about five other obligations that seem to pop up. The reality is most things can and will wait. Helping others cannot. Take advantage of the opportunities to serve and promote your business through the Grapevine Chamber. I look forward to seeing each of you at our Monthly Membership Luncheon, June 26, 11:30 a.m. – 1

The Grapevine YEA! Program Takes Center Stage, June 26 Continued from page 1 as tour businesses including the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center and Bottlecap Alley Icehouse Grill. Additionally, the students have worked with area business leaders as mentors, website developers from i5 web works and graphic design students from Texas Christian University to create their company logos and marketing material. More than 100 business and community leaders have invested more than 2,000 hours in support of these future business and community leaders. Nine businesses presented their business plans at the program’s Investor Panel Event, with all receiving some or all of the start-up capital they requested. In May, Drew DeHaven represented Grapevine with his

business CGE Energy at the YEA! Western Regional Competition in Frisco, and he was one of two students chosen to represent the region at the YEA! National Competition in Washington D.C., June 11. Make plans to attend the luncheon at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, Grand Hall, located at 636 S. Main St. The cost is $20 with a reservation by 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, or $25 after that date. There is a $5 fee for invoicing, and all reservations not canceled in advance will be billed. Reservations can be made by contacting the Grapevine Chamber at (817) 481-1522, emailing info@grapevinechamber.org or visiting the Chamber website’s Events Page.

What is SHAKING in the Women’s Division this month? Since we have eaten our way through Great Taste of Grapevine and we won’t be boot scootin at the Holiday Hoedown until December, we have some time to sit back and relax, right? Yeah right! We are the Women’s Division, and we don’t know what sitting back and relaxing is! ☺ Thanks to all of your support, sponsorships and attendance the 2014 Great Taste of Grapevine raised just over $12,000! We will be using these funds, along with our 2013 Hoedown funds, to purchase school supplies for GCISD students! Another part of our fundraising efforts is staffing four of the Beverage Booths at Main Street Days all day on Friday of the festival weekend! This year went off without a hitch, and we are anxious to hear the numbers from the Convention & Visitors Bureau. However, it seemed like a great turnout with such beautiful weather!

SOME DATES TO REMEMBER:

• Tuesday, June 17: Monthly Luncheon at Stacy Furniture & Design, 3rd floor, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. • Tuesday, June 24: Women’s Division Happy Hour, 4:30 – 6 p.m. at Coal Vines in Southlake • Saturday, August 9: CONNECT Back to School Event - School Supply Distribution at Grapevine High School

A little bit of Women’s Division History:

In 1974, the Women’s Division sponsored and published a Reference Directory that listed city officials, businesses, churches and organizations. This was the forerunner of today’s Chamber Community Directory & Referral Guide. The electric company, TP&L, distributed the publication to all new residents and each business in town. Two thousand booklets were published. After expenses were paid, the remaining funds were used to purchase an IBM typewriter and a desk for the Chamber of Commerce office, which was located in a corner of the Civic Center.
