appreciated. In 1980, Phillips began entertaining audiences with comedy and magic where he learned the power of laughter. In 1988, he entered full-time ministry where he learned the power of inspiration. That same year, Phillips combined the two and began entertaining and inspiring groups needing a clean, humorous entertainer and speaker. For more than 23 years, Phillips has traveled the country bringing laughter, entertainment, and inspiration to groups of all sizes and backgrounds with his humorous stories, comedy sleight of hand, hilarious audience participation, and

simple messages of inspiration. From corporate to educators to associations and chambers of commerce, Phillips’ humor, magic, and inspiration are ideal for any banquet, conference, or event. Make plans to join us for the luncheon at Grapevine Convention Center, 1209 S. Main St. in Grapevine. The cost is $20 with reservations made prior to 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, and $25 after. There is a $5 fee for invoicing. Reservations can be made by contacting the Grapevine Chamber at (817) 481-1522, emailing info@grapevinechamber. org or visiting the Chamber website’s Events Page.

Making the Most of Your Chamber Investment Hard to believe, but summer is almost here. The school year is coming to a close, and families are getting ready for all the summer activities. It seems like yesterday that we were celebrating our Annual Community Awards Banquet, and I became your Chairman. Time sure does flies.

Your Board of Directors has been working on a couple things I want to share with you this month. A major part of the work we do in the Grapevine business community is community support. There are so many different opportunities for businesses and individuals to support the community. One thing that has happened recently is the development

of the Grapevine Chamber Foundation. Your Board formed this foundation for the primary purpose to support community charitable opportunities through contributions to this 501(c)3 organization. The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division is an arm of the Chamber that performs many of the charitable efforts. These ladies Continued on page 2

Making the Most of Your Chamber Investment Continued from page 1 are very proactive in providing support for so many worthy causes within the community. Check out the Chamber website to see some of these great efforts. Another area that I believe the Chamber provides great value for your business is the support and relationships developed with the City of Grapevine and our local city partnerships. The Chamber and the City of Grapevine work together with a monthly Economic Development Partnership meeting. The meeting is typically the fourth Wednesday of each month and allows business owners to learn about the different projects the city is working on with regards to development, planning, transportation,

Blagg Tire & Service Chairman of the Board

etc. These meetings keep the business community updated. As a business owner, I believe a proactive Chamber and city is critical to the success of our business. Having businesses and individuals educated and active significantly increases the value of the community. This partnership developed between the City of Grapevine and the Chamber is a great example of where this relationship has developed a great value for our chamber investors. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to help market your business. Our upcoming Chamber luncheon is June 13 at the Grapevine Convention Center. Attend the luncheon to network with other businesses and learn

more about the opportunities the Chamber offers. In addition, the Must be Present to Win Drawing is up to $1,100. Take advantage of all the opportunities you have through Chamber activities to market your business. The Chamber website is full of great opportunities to do this. It will help you get the most from your Chamber investment. Again, if I or any member of your Board of Directors can be of any assistance, please let any of us know. We are here to serve you. Thank you for the honor of serving as your Chairman for 2013. Best regards, Perry Leonard

Specifically you will learn:

• The negative impact of unresolved conflict • The steps of effective conflict resolution • How to resolve your current conflicts and live a happier, more productive life

Beth Jones, CEO of Leading Right, is a seasoned executive with 30 years of training and coaching experience. Jones has helped hundreds of people learn effective conflict resolution skills improving their lives and their relationship outcomes. Make plans to join us! Grapevine-based Buchanan Technologies Turns 25 and Is Ready for 25 More Years In April of 2011, Buchanan Technologies moved into their current home on Texan Trail across from the Great Wolf Lodge. “Moving to Grapevine was a great decision for us. Grapevine is centrally located for our employees that commute and it still has a friendly small town feel,” says Jim Buchanan, CEO and Founder of Buchanan Technologies, Inc. “Moving here was also an opportunity for our company to invest in property but also to start making an investment in the Grapevine community.” Last fall as Buchanan Technologies neared its 25th anniversary year, Jim Buchanan, Stephen Sweett (President), and Robert Venable (CFO) decided to realign the company’s IT services into six distinct business lines. “Realigning our IT service line was a big decision for us,” says Buchanan. “But I think it was completely necessary for us, considering how our business is growing and the IT services market overall is changing. We’ve had a very successful 25 years and we wanted to position ourselves for another successful 25 years.” 2013 is turning out to be a very big year for Buchanan Technologies. On top of celebrating its 25th anniversary, the company recently went through a complete re-branding effort, created new branding for its six IT service lines, and launched a new website. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Buchanan Technologies will be throwing a big bash for approximately 700 employees, alumni, and clients at Cool River Café in July. Throughout the month of July, the executive team will hit the road to host a 25th anniversary party for each office in North America as well as the office in Sofia, Bulgaria. “In all of our years of doing business, it has always been the employees that have made our company a great place to work and a true success in every sense,” says Buchanan. “Without their hard work and dedication, making it to twenty-five years would have been almost impossible. I hope they know how special they are.” The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Buchanan Technologies, Inc. on 25 years of business and wish them many prosperous years here in Grapevine, Texas! www.grapevinechamber.org J U N E 2013 l 3

Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division

For the Women’s Division, May means Main Street Days – just as it does for so many other organizations in Grapevine. We manned four beverage booths on Friday and are so thankful to our membership for filling each and every spot. A fun time was had by all. The club’s major fundraising events take place in April and December. However, now is the time to starting putting those funds to use. Our major summer giving away project is School Supplies for Kids. We will be providing grade appropriate school supply packs to disadvantaged children in GCISD. Last year we provided 1092 and although the registration has not been completed, we believe the need will be greater this year. We will once again coordinate our distribution with the CONNECT School Fair on August 10th. CONNECT is a part of the GCISD Education Foundation that has been formed to meet the many needs of economically-disadvantaged students including clothing, food, medical and financial resources, mentors and transportation. Although our raised funds go toward purchasing pre-packaged school supply packs, we also accept donations of backpacks to go with the school supplies. If you wish to donate, please bring backpacks to the June or July Chamber luncheons. Back packs for middle and high school students are particularly in need. We had a fabulous time at our May meeting where Dawn Owens, owner of City Florist gave us hands-on experience of how to “blow” a rose and gave other floral design tips. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, June 18 starting at 11:45 in the Third Floor Community Room of Stacy Furniture. Our luncheon sponsor will be Community Impact News and our program will be a presentation from SeaLife Aquarium showcasing the amazing sea creatures in their exhibits. We would love for you to attend. Please contact Casey Hege at casey@boxinsurance to secure your reservation.
