T h e Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce R o b e r t Earley, president and CEO of JPS Health Network, as the guest speaker for the upcoming Chamber Membership Luncheon, Thursday, March 20, sponsored by Bank of the West and catered by Buca di Beppo.

The JPS Health Network is Tarrant County’s $800 million public-supported healthcare system, which experienced more than 1.1 million patient encounters in 2013. Appointed CEO in 2009, Earley has guided JPS and its team of more than 6,000 employees, physicians and contractors through significant changes to further their mission of transforming healthcare delivery for the communities they serve.

Under Earley’s leadership, JPS received Level 1 Trauma Center status, created an open heart surgery program, established a certified stroke center and expanded the network’s school-based health centers to 19 campuses. Home to nine medical residency programs, JPS added emergency medicine three years ago. In 2013, JPS partnered with the Fort Worth Foundation to develop a central resource Continued on page 3

Take Advantage of Opportunities to Grow Your Business in 2014 I can’t believe how quickly the year is going by! February was filled with so many networking opportunities, and I hope you were able to participate. It was an honor to meet Larry North at the Chamber’s February luncheon. Mr. North shared about his family and reminded us all about the

importance of forgiveness. I expected to get some tips on healthy eating and exercising, but I walked away with so much more. This year is just getting started, and we want to partner with you every step of the way. Please be sure and check the Chamber’s calendar for upcoming events to see what fits into your schedule. There are networking opportunities morning, noon and night! If you haven’t attended a luncheon, make a commitment

Win Money for Attending the Luncheon! Those in attendance for the February luncheon saw the

Grapevine YEA! Program Investor Panel, March 18 What happens when you take 13 students and give them an opportunity to create their own businesses? Not only that, but you include an Investor’s Panel that provides them with an opportunity to compete against each other for start-up capital. You get the Grapevine Young Entrepreneur’s Academy (YEA! Program). Tuesday, March 18, 6 p.m. at the Palace Theatre, business owners between the ages of 12-17 will present their business idea, business and marketing plan to real investors who have sponsored the program and will provide some or all of their capital needs. Each business will have six minutes to impress the investors and get a head start on their business. On top of that, one of the businesses will be selected to represent the Grapevine YEA! Program on the regional stage, for a chance to then compete nationally in Rochester, New York against the other YEA! Programs from around the country for an Entrepreneurial Scholarship. This year’s students began this YEA! Program in August by submitting their application and going through an interview process. Those selected began a thirty-week program, every Monday evening after school. They have had the opportunity to meet with lawyers, insurance agents, and business professionals, as well as tour businesses including the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center and Bottleap Alley Icehouse Grill. Additionally, the students have worked with area business leaders as mentors, website developers and with graphic design students at Texas Christian University to create their company logos and marketing material. More than 100 business and community leaders will have invested more than 2,000 hours in support of these future business and community leaders. Following the Investor Panel, the students will continue to build their businesses by determining other funding if needed, meeting with the Tarrant County Clerk’s office to file their DBA’s, preparing for their first trade show May 10 and meeting with more area professionals to build their strong business foundation. Support these future leaders March 18, at 6 p.m. at the Palace Theatre by attending this year’s Investor Panel event. Admission is free.

“Must Be Present to Win” drawing continue its climb. The drawing gained another $50 and now sits at $1,500. Each month at the luncheon, the drawing will grow as long as the person whose name is called is not in attendance. All you have to do is show up! How easy is that? All Chamber members’ names are in the drawing, sponsored by the First Financial Bank, NA. Cash in on your membership investment by attending the monthly luncheon for your chance to win!

Business Insight Series Continues March 7 with Rich Allen The 2014 Business Insight Series continues, March 7, with Rich Allen discussing The EMyth: What Business Owners Need to Know to Succeed. This series is designed for individual employees, managers or business owners who are interested in improving or developing their business skills. When you were a kid learning to ride a bike, you didn’t need to know how it was designed, why the wheels were a certain size or how the hand brakes worked. You just watched how the other kids did it, hopped on your own bike and hoped for the best. According to Rich Allen, president of Tour de Profit Business Coaching, many entrepreneurs take the very same approach to running their business. They never learned that just like the winners of bicycle road races who have an intrinsic knowledge of their bicycles’ mechanics, business owners need an understanding of how the pieces of their business fit together and work in harmony.

In The Session You Will Learn About: • How a bicycle is a perfect metaphor for a business • How to diagnose a problem or issue in their business • What to do to cross your own pre-determined finish line The Business Insight Series will be at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine. Registration is required, and the cost is $15 for Grapevine Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Register online on the Chamber’s Events Calendar or call (817) 481-1522. Check-in and networking will be from 7:30 - 8 a.m., with the program from 8 - 9:30 a.m.

Time is Flying I don’t know about you but time is flying by from my seat as Women’s Division Chair! We have already accomplished so much in two months! We have installed our 2014 Executive Committee members, which are listed below with names and contact information. We have bowled with the AMBUCS (and no, we won’t share our very low score, but if you check out our Facebook page, you will see why it was so low.) We have hosted our Annual Membership Luncheon at the Grand Hall of the CVB Building, and we have launched preparations for Great Taste of Grapevine, which will be held on Thursday, April 3 at the Embassy Suites at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25, and you can buy them from any Women’s Division Member or you can buy them online by visiting www. GrapevineChamber.org, clicking on Events and then clicking on Great Taste of Grapevine under “Featured Events.” Great Taste of Grapevine is one of our two big fundraisers each year, and it is truly a lot of fun! We will have more room for mingling than last year, and we will have 25-30 of the highest quality restaurant Chamber members that the Grapevine area has to offer. The Chair for this event is Emily McRoberts. If you would like to get involved, her email is emily@mcroberts.co (no “m). If you would like to learn more about sponsoring the event, contact Toni Barron at toni@impactnews.com. Please give me a call or shoot me an email if you have questions about what we do in the Women’s Division! My contact info is below! Lastly, I want to thank RaDonna Hessel for speaking to our group about the relationship between the Chamber and Women’s Division. We are a committee of the Chamber, and it was so nice to hear how it should all work, from our leader! We look forward to a wonderful year and hope you come check us out, if you haven’t already! Obviously, these women do way more than their title suggests, and I am so thankful for them (and they are in no particular order or ranking)! Any of these ladies would be happy to talk to you about getting involved in Women’s Division, and I hope that you do reach out to learn more!

Here’s A Tidbit About The History Of The Women’s Division: In the 1980’s a daughter of a Women’s Division member came home from school and told her that one of the girls in her class did not have her school supplies so the teacher put her name up on the board. Her mom came to the Women’s Division Board and made a plea. And so the Christmas Spirit project to furnish school supplies to all GCISD students whose parents could not afford to buy their supplies was started. In 2014, Women’s Division raise the funds to supply more than 1,200 school supply packs to these students that would have otherwise shown up to school on the first day with nothing in hand!
