Happy New Year!

As we begin 2021, one cannot help but to take a moment to reflect on the many challenges of 2020. I would like to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to all of you for the many challenges you faced in your perspective businesses. There are many businesses that made it through in spite of the insurmountable odds and others that found their stride and grew. We must also recognize the reality that some businesses were not able to survive and will have to start over. This new year brings optimism and hope that there will be a return to business normal.

I share this optimistic view and as the 2021 Chairman of the Board of Directors for your Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, I look forward to working with our dedicated board and dedicated CEO and staff to bring meaningful programs for our members.

Our focus will be directed in several key areas a) expanding our membership b) improving membership benefits and c) engaging with membership. We know and understand that we must succeed together as it will take numerous efforts to raise the bar in 2021. Investing your dollars in our Chamber is a big commitment and it is my desire that you will be involved to ensure that your dollars are working for you. I welcome your input and

suggestions throughout this year and look forward to having the opportunity to meet each of you. In closing, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our 2020 Chairman, LeAnn Brown, Chamber CEO RaDonna Hessel and the Chamber staff for their unwavering support to our membership. Each of you went above and beyond to obtain important financial and business information that served our members. The Chamber never closed down and stayed focused! Thank you in advance for your commitment and participation in making 2021 an outstanding year for business! Yours in hospitality & service,

Phillip E. Cunningham, Chairman of the Board What A Shine! Enterprises

Ambassador of the Month: Phil Wilson After long careers in both the printing and real estate industry, I attained my Property and Casualty insurance license in 2016. I soon realized that many consumers knew that they had to have insurance, and that they had a policy, but really did not know what was covered nor for how much. I then made it my mission and my passion to help the insurance consumers understand their policies better to help them make better decisions as to the best policies for them. My wife of nineteen years, Dorothy, and I have been proud residents of Grapevine since 2004. I lived here previously and knew that this was where I wanted to plant my roots. We enjoy walks down to the lake, Historic Downtown Grapevine, concerts and decorating our home for Halloween and Christmas.

WOMENS DIVISION:

Who could have imagined the year that was 2020? It was truly a year of tests (no pun intended…but appropriate). It left us unsure of where we are and what direction we are headed, but also provided opportunities for reinvention and rethinking of our priorities so we may move forward -- in whatever direction that may be. The Women’s Division is an organization of friendship, philanthropy and business among our members, the Chamber and our community. We had challenges last year as well, and we worked to navigate them as they came. The pandemic did not stop the Women’s Division from working to serve our community through our essential programs in GCISD, with our seniors in need and other members of our community. Under the leadership of Nancy Cable, the 2020 Chair of the Women’s Division, we provided school supplies to more than 1,400 students; we donated and distributed essential supplies and gifts to disadvantaged seniors; we donated funds for a scholarship to the Kathee Livengood Foundation; we made a donation to Grace for additional supplies their clients needed; we contributed funds to AMBUCS; and we donated to the Grapevine Chamber capital campaign. In all, we contributed $36,429 to help citizens of Grapevine and the surrounding area. None of what we do would be possible without the support of every one of you! When we were not able to gather together in 2020 for the 25th Anniversary of our Great Taste of Grapevine or hold the Elves on the Run 5K and Fun Run, we had to get creative with our fundraising efforts and turned to the Chamber members to fill the gap. You were very generous, enabling us to continue our philanthropic efforts. The Women’s Division offers our heartfelt thanks for all you have done for us, especially because we know so many have had challenges of your own. We are looking forward to the new year with new hope. We are optimistic we will be able to resume social gatherings and activities again! Our events have not yet been scheduled; please stay tuned for updates as the year progresses. I am looking toward a new year working with this group of talented, hard-working ladies to fulfil our mission and hope you will join us in the Women’s Division. Our luncheons are held on the second Tuesday of every month, at the Gary and Cynthia Blankenship Business Center, adjacent to the Chamber offices. Guests are always welcome! We meet at 11:45 a.m., and details are on the Chamber website. If you have any questions, please email me at sssmith33@me.com.
