Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Newsletter

August, 2019

BusinesS MATTERS Mission: Your Chamber, Your Opportunities The mission of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is to promote business that adds value to our community.

Vision: The vision of the Grapevine Chamber is a progressive business organization that brings relevant and essential opportunities for our investors and community to grow and prosper.

Values: Excellence Innovation Integrity & Community

August is here. We can’t gripe too much because for Texas, we had an amazingly “cool” month in July (cool for Texas anyway). And now we get into what is historically the hottest month of the year in temperature, and the start of our busiest months for our community and Chamber. School starts, committees gear back up after summer breaks and events begin to happen. For your 5 Star Accredited, Chamber of the Year Finalist organization, we are looking forward to great things happening in the last five months of the year. If you aren’t involved in something, I encourage you to look through the calendar and newsletter, and find something that interests you, and take at least one hour to connect to your fellow Chamber members. I own a restaurant and sometimes my time is not my own – but, I find that just coming

to the Chamber luncheon each month is a great way to meet some key community business leaders, potential clients and soon to be friends. If lunch doesn’t work for you, find a networking group to go visit. There is one in the morning, at noon, and even an afternoon group. Each is a little different in what they do, but for the majority of those attending, they are looking forward to shaking your hand, getting to know you and learning about our businesses. Of course if events are your thing, we have those coming up with the Casino Night on Friday August 16th, Grapefest September 12th – 15th, the 40th Annual Grapevine Golf Tournament Monday, October 7th, the Job Fair on Wednesday, October 30th, the Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 5th and the Elves on the Run event on Saturday, December 7th. You can help plan any of these, or just work a shift at one of them – but in each activity

Follow us on Instagram Instagram.com/grapevinechamber

you will help a cause, meet new people, or just have fun. If you haven’t driven by the Chamber, I encourage you to come check out the progress. New concrete is poured for more parking, the piers are in and dirt is flying daily! If you haven’t donated to the Capital Campaign yet, I’d like to ask you to consider making some contribution. You have three years to pay While we did not come home from Long Beach as the 2019 Chamber of the Year, we congratulate Longview, and appreciate that at least it came to Texas! We are still extremely proud that your Grapevine Chamber is one of the top 12 Chambers for 2019 in America – and you are a big part of the reason why. Thanks for your commitment to your Chamber, our community and I look forward to continuing to serve you for the remainder of 2019!

AMBASSADOR of the Month, Courtenay Harris

Christopher’s Bakery is an online retail and wholesale bakery formed in Miami, FL and now operating in Grapevine, TX. Christopher’s Bakery is named for the owner’s brother, Christopher Harris, who was born with epilepsy and unfortunately died from a seizure just days before his 11th birthday back in 2003. The bakery is not only named for him, but they donate a portion of their sales back to epilepsy research with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital back in Miami. Christopher’s Bakery specializes in its Vanilla Wafer Cake - a cake made using vanilla wafer cookies and no additional flour. People have raved about the uniqueness and deliciousness of our Vanilla Wafer Cake. We also have cakes, cupcakes, muffins and cookies in many different flavors including Pound, Cocoa Pound, Red Velvet and Caramel. We hand-deliver to the entire DFW area! Make sure you visit christophersbakery.com/ bakedgoods or call 305-749-7576 to order your baked goods today! Our owner & baker, Courtenay Harris, is also the Audio/Video teacher at Grapevine High School. Courtenay wants it to be known that two of his students were just announced as finalists for the AllAmerican High School Film Festival and how proud he is of them, and ALL of his students, for their hard work! Courtenay is very involved in his local church as the leader of the sound department and enjoys amateur photography. In fact, Courtenay is excited for an upcoming event, on September 28th @ 6:00 pm in the Grapevine Founder’s Room where he’ll be showcasing both his and his student’s photography and artwork in addition to having a community tasting for Christopher’s Bakery. He hopes to see you all there!

MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!

Our Member, Mr. Green with Miracles Stream Carpet Cleaning & Restoration, was drawn at the July Luncheon. Since he was not present, the prize is now $300 for our August 22nd Luncheon. Each month through the sponsorship of First Financial Bank, an additional $50 is added to the prize at the Chamber’s Membership Luncheon, so the dollar amount grows as long as the person whose name is called is not in attendance. To win, all you have to do is attend the luncheon and hear your name be called! Every representative’s name is included for each Chamber member, so everyone has an opportunity - you only have to have your name drawn to be Present to Win!

Women’s Division Events It is almost back to school! The Women’s Division team is preparing to provide just under 1400 back to school packages for those in need in GCISD. This is one of our largest givebacks to the community, and we are excited to serve those students on August 10th!
