Cast Your Ballot in Support of Grapevine’s Economy This year, the Grapevine Chamber of Com merce achieved a 4-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This was a result of years of hard work and planning from past Board of Directors,

as well as the Chamber’s staff. One of the major components of accreditation is a Legislative agenda. Even though the Chamber may not take a political position on certain items, it is important as a Chamber business that the Chamber provides our investors with information pertaining to local, state and

national issues that impact them. As you know, November is a month to go to the polls. There are nine propositions on the ballot, which you as citizens will support or reject. Cast Your Ballot in Support of Grapevine’s Economy Continued from page 1 these issues. If you were at the October Chamber Membership Luncheon you heard from our State Representative Giovanni Capriglione on these different propositions. Many of these impact us in Grapevine and the region. The Chamber’s October Newsletter shared several of these with you, provided information and your Board of Directors’ position on each. I encourage you to look back at that newsletter prior to Election Day. The economic development in Grapevine is strong and has prospered over the years. We are blessed to be in the middle of such an active, vibrant economy. We have strong, stable leadership in our community, which citizens have put in place. These propositions impact our livelihood and the ability to continue to keep a strong economy. I encourage each of you as business leaders to review each of the propositions and cast your ballot. The Chamber office can provide you any information you need to make an informed decision.

Also, don’t forget to attend the monthly Chamber Membership Luncheons to network with other businesses and to hear a great program. By the way, attend and you might WIN! The Must be Present to Win Drawing is now up to $1,300, and you must be present to WIN! Take advantage of all the opportunities you have through Chamber Calendar of Events to market your business. The Chamber website is full of great opportunities to do this. It will help you get the most from your Chamber investment. Remember to go VOTE! Again, if I or any member of your Board of Directors can be of any assistance, please let any of us know. We are here to serve you. Thank you for the honor of serving as your Chairman for 2013.

Shop Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30 The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce would like to encourage you to shop local and shop small on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30. Created in 2010, Small Business Saturday supports local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. The most pressing need for these small businesses is more customers, without them these businesses simply cannot thrive. Grapevine has a vibrant mix of small businesses all over the city. From the self-starters on Main Street to the locally owned businesses at Grapevine Mills, Grapevine has plenty to choose from to kick-off the holiday shopping season. Check the Chamber’s online business directory to see what local shops are out there, and don’t be afraid to get out and explore. In 2012, consumers spent $5.5 billion with independent merchants all over the United States, and the Chamber would like to see that number eclipsed in 2013 with a boost from Grapevine consumers. Before you go online, visit a local business and support your local economy. 8 l N O V E M B E R 20 1 3 www.grapevinechamber.org

Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division

With the approach of cooler weather, it’s Chili Cook-Off time of year again! The Women’s Division held our own Chili Cook-Off at our monthly meeting on the evening of October 15th at Homestead Winery. For the first time in recent history, we had a few weather challenges, but we quickly reorganized and moved the event inside. Ten excellent chili recipes were offered and it was a close race. However, Janice Kane prepared the winning chili and her recipe will be used as we advance to the 21st Annual Classic Chili Cook-Off in November. Congratulations Janice! This time of year is always special to the Women’s Division. With the holiday season upon us, it is time to start shopping for the beneficiaries of our Christmas Spirit for Seniors program – our local disadvantaged senior citizens. We visited with these seniors recently to receive their Christmas Wish Lists. It’s always such a blessing to visit with them. For many of these seniors, this gift along with the gift of necessities that the Women’s Division provides, will be the only holiday that they have. Please look for our Christmas Tree at the Grapevine Community Activities Center and at the Grapevine Library to select an ornament which will tell you the needs of the recipient. Gifts will be delivered on December 14th – so select an ornament and get your shopping shoes on! This is also the time of year that we are preparing for our annual holiday charity event – our 3rd Annual HoHoHoeDown! It will be held on Thursday, December 19th at Willhoite’s Restaurant. Willhoites is so gracious to devote their entire facility to our party from 6 until 10 pm that night. We do appreciate them. This is a community event and a lot of fun, so be sure to invite your friends and family to join us. This event has traditionally been our largest fundraising event for our School Supplies for Kids and Christmas Spirit for Seniors programs. It’s a fun way to enjoy the holidays with your friends and to support the community at the same time. Tickets are available on the website or by contacting a Women’s Division member. Sponsorships are still available – please contact Shelley Ruddick at sruddick@bnkwest.com or 817-909-0219 if you are interested. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and take time to reflect on how fortunate and blessed we are to live and work in such a wonderful community as Grapevine.
