gatherings

Dear Members, Spring is coming to a close and it’s almost time for summer at Reunion. Let me start by wishing all of the moms a very happy Mother’s Day. May brings us lots of exciting and fun family activities. Celebrate mom at Reunion with an Italian-inspired Mother’s Day brunch at Forte or a trip to the spa for some much-deserved pampering with Mom’s Perfect Escape package. Reunion will have plenty of other exciting activities happening in May. Stop by the Clubhouse for Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Watch the Kentucky Derby and enjoy a menu inspired by the race or experience the colorful Cinco de Mayo menu. Don’t forget about our all-American Memorial Day BBQ on the Water park lawn. For more information about upcoming activities and events at Reunion, please contact Bev Kelber. Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Reunion and our sister properties. We are excited to share these great stories about our properties: Luxury Orlando Resorts, Travel Channel Online Titans of the Game, New England Golf Monthly Vacation in Kissimmee, Florida, Go Girlfriend Sheila Johnson’s next act: Salamander, USA Today The Palmer Course at the Reunion Resort, Orlando, Florida, About.com 7 Luxurious Hotels Worth Your Tax Refund, Oyster.com A Grand Golf Getaway at the Grand Golf Resorts of Florida, Golfing Magazine 2015 Dining Awards, Orlando City Magazine Yours in hospitality,

Managing Director’s Corner

By now, hopefully most of our valued Club Members have been able to visit the new Club at Reunion Resort website, theclubatreunionresort.com.

Launched in late April, the site showcases the benefits of Reunion Club Membership. Those interested in purchasing property and/or joining the Club can learn about golf, tennis, dining and other amenities, as well as ask specific questions regarding Membership by completing an online form which is then sent directly to the Membership team. In addition, this site is where you access the Member Login to enter the private site and view the most current Club communications and calendar of upcoming Club activities, as well as register for these events online and via your mobile phone. You also may make tee times online, see your most recent Club Membership statements and obtain current Club documents and forms. Those owners who participate in the Official Reunion Resort Rental Program will soon be receiving information on a private “Rental Owner” site, reunionrentalowner.com, currently in development. Owners will have the ability to view a booking calendar for their property, submit owner reservations online, view their rental statements and receive important updates from the Rental Management Team. We are currently anticipating to launch the new site in June. Also in production is a new and improved vacation rental website, reunionresortvacationhomerentals. com, slated to launch in mid-May. The website will feature our the Official Reunion Resort vacation rental program home inventory, with future plans to add a representative sample of villa inventory as well. The new site features a two-way interface with the Resort reservations system, enabling us to promote our rental inventory on vacation rental websites such as VRBO, Homeaway, Flipkey, etc. In addition, guest searches will return real-time unit availability and rates, and allow online booking. Our Reunion Resort vacation home inventory can also be accessed directly by visiting the Reunion Resort website reunionresort.com and clicking on “vacation homes”.

While we are excited to offer these new websites to enhance your Member experience, please realize we will continue to improve them to keep the sites dynamic and meet the needs of our Members.

Sincerely,

CARLTON W. GRANT, CHA Managing Director, Reunion Resort & Club

St Patrick’s Day Tournament In true Irish spirit, St. Patrick’s Day was a nice morning and our members showed their St. Patrick’s Day spirit by showing up in their green attire. The format was a four person scramble with 10% of the team’s handicap. In first place, with a gross score of 58, was the team of Chris and Carole Clegg and Frank and Janet D’Entremont. The net winner, with a score of 54.6, was the team of Darryl and Brenda Rendleman and Steve and Gayle Schuessler.

Reunion Member Series Championship We kicked off the month of March with two events ending the RMS season of 2014-15. It was an exciting finish to this year-long series, as it could have been anyone’s prize right up to the last event. With the final round counting for double points, attendance was crucial for the people in contention. Our gross champion for the Independence Challenge was Frank D’Entremont with a score of 76. Our men’s net winner was Robert Eichorn with a score of 69. Our ladies gross winner was Brenda Rendleman with a score of 83. Our ladies net winner was Gayle Schuessler with a score of 72.

Overall Reunion Member Series Champions for the year in the gross division were Frank D’Entremont and Brenda Rendleman, and in the net division were Darryl Rendleman and Gayle Schuessler. Congratulations to all event winners and Series Champions – enjoy that cruise for 2!

Member/Member Tournament The 2015 Member/Member consisted of 31 teams (12 ladies and 24 men) which resulted in 2 ladies and 3 men’s flights. The format over the three days consisted of best ball 9 hole matches played on Palmer and Watson. After the three days of match play, 6 flight winners advanced to a final shootout on holes 17 and 18 of the Palmer Course. This final was slightly different than previous years, as we had an overall men’s and ladies champion. Defending ladies champions Kris Lanman and Helen Eichorn repeated and won the 2015 Ladies Member/Member, congratulations! Our Men’s Overall 2015 Member/Member was the team of Mike Denny and In-Hwan Kim. Thank you to everyone that participated and made this a memorable event!

frankly golf

As you know, putting is 45% of your score. At the Frankly Golf Putting Academy, we want to help you improve this part of your game. Here are three easy ways you can shave strokes off your game. Make sure your putter is properly fitted Most of the putters we use are hand me downs from a relative or bought out of a store and have not been properly fitted for the golfer; as a result, we are invariably using putters that are too long for us and therefore, we need to compensate within our stroke. Here at the Frankly Golf Putting Academy, we make sure that your putter is properly fitted so you can perform to the best of your ability. Take advantage of putter technology Many of us are using blade style putter technology, when in fact, we would benefit from more of a mallet style putter, which helps forgive our mistakes. So make it easier on the green by testing out one of our Frankly Frog putters, right here at the Putting Academy, which will help stabilize your stroke and provide a larger forgiveness zone for your putts. Take a putting lesson It’s time to join the many golfers of varying skill levels that have taken putting lessons from us here at the Frankly Golf Putting Academy. We will help you improve your putting quickly and easily. Unlike the full swing, with putting you can see big improvements in a very short period of time, as well as develop an understanding of how your stroke should move.

Kathleen Campbell

Kathleen Campbell Wins March 2015 Reunion Club Member Recognition Program (MERP) Award Kathleen Campbell joined Reunion two years ago as Clubhouse Hostess and was promoted to Food & Beverage Supervisor in 2014. Kathleen received multiple nominations for the MERP award.

One nomination declared “Absolutely one of the most caring employees we have at Reunion.” Other ballots read “She goes out of her way to make sure everyone is taken care of on a timely basis.”

The Member Employee Recognition Program (“MERP”) gives Members the opportunity to recognize deserving Reunion employees. Every outlet has ballots available for you to nominate and describe why you think the employee should be the next winner. Remember to take advantage of this opportunity and let them know we notice and appreciate their efforts to make us happy to be here at Reunion. Although only one employee receives this monthly award, all of the employees nominated receive peer and management recognition at special employee breakfasts throughout the year.

When you see her, please congratulate Kathleen on her drive for excellence and devotion to providing a high standard of service to Members.

Inside T H E L I N E S

gath erings | 24

Opportunity to Attack There are very few shots that are guaranteed to be hit short. One of those shots is the second serve. It is the only time on a tennis court where you know where your opponent is standing (behind the baseline) and it is also the only time you know where the ball is going to land (inside the service box).

How do we attack? First and foremost you must shorten your backswing. Many players try to hit the return too hard when all they need to do is get it in.

These two facts put the second serve in the receiver’s favor, so there is no reason for us to try and hit the ball 100 mph, or even go for a winner; all we need to do is attack.

A couple of variations for this shot would be to approach the ball the same way but then either drop cross-court, lobbing over the net player, or simply punching the ball down the line.

By applying that pressure, you will find that the server will try and do too much with their next shot, they will set you or your partner up, or they will simply miss the shot due to you moving in. Either way you will find that most opponents will not easily handle the pressure.

Try mixing up these returns in your game and you will find your opponents guessing with every hit.

If you approach the second serve return like a volley, racquet head above your hand with very little backswing, you will see that your percentages will jump. Your next thought should be to get the ball cross-court and as deep as you can by pushing the ball outward, letting gravity pull the ball down, not your swing.
