Managing Director’s Corner

It seems like yesterday Spring gave way to the vibrant colors of summer. We are now in the midst of Fall, and the holidays are quickly approaching. With that comes cooler temperatures and plenty of events for our members to enjoy. I am excited to announce that Director of Food & Beverage, Robert Mason, along with our amazing chefs, have created new menus for our outlets that we will roll out this month. The first to be introduced will be the Eleven menu in the first week of November. In addition to new entrees, we will be expanding the steak and appetizer options. Some highlights are: • Barbequed Bacon Shrimp - Bacon and Fresh Basil wrapped Jumbo Shrimp, local BBQ Sauce. • Filet Mignon Egg Roll – Melon, Jicama slaw, Sweet Chili Sauce. • 20 ounce Porterhouse Steak • Bronzed Grouper - Lightly Blackened Florida Grouper, Lobster and Shrimp Ragu, Grilled Asparagus, Orange Cajun Sauce, organic Grits. • Peppercorn Steak - NY Strip grilled and crusted with Roasted Garlic and Cracked Pepper, Brandy Demi-glace, Onion Straws The new Clubhouse menu will be launched mid-November with new appetizers, salads and entrees, such as Coconut Shrimp, Crap Dip, Caprese Salad, Cowboy Burger and Bacon Pepper Pork Tenderloin. Lastly, we will present a new menu for Forte at the end of November featuring Antipasto, Minestrone Soup, Polenta Crusted Scallops and Pollo con Fungi, just to name a few. Look for these and many other new options as well as some of our Member’s all-time favorite dishes. We recently had our 10th annual Member-Guest Tournament, which was overwhelmingly rated by participants as the “Best Member-Guest Event Ever”. I would like to congratulate our winners Tom Monahan & Tom Paul and Tracy Moore & Rachel Wilson! Both teams put on a strong performance and great play to take home the victory.

Vicki Gillis Named September 2015 Reunion Club Member Recognition Program (MERP)

gath erings | 10

Vicki has been with Reunion almost 8 years and began her career at the resort as a Front Desk Agent. She has been a Rooms Control Agent, a Front Desk Manager-in-Training, an Assistant Rental Manager and a Reservations Supervisor prior to her current role as a Rental Property Executive. Her nomination read, “When we stayed in our unit during the first week of September, we found many issues that needed to be taken care of. Vicki came directly to our unit to see what needed to be done. Although all of the problems were not related to the rental program directly, she assured us that she would contact the proper people that would handle those. She had repair people respond immediately to those things that she could direct. I was amazed also when I saw someone actually handling a landscaping issue that has been ignored for years! I commend Vicki for going above and beyond her responsibilities and simplifying the reporting of the various issues for me. I would not have even known who to contact on some of them. I felt extremely grateful to her for taking on all of the handling and saving us endless hours trying to do it ourselves.

“ Reunion has a valuable, friendly and extremely competent employee in Vicki Gillis.” The Member Employee Recognition Program (“MERP”) gives Members the opportunity to recognize deserving Reunion employees. Every outlet has ballots available for you to nominate and describe why you think the employee should be the next winner. Remember to take advantage of this opportunity and let them know we notice and appreciate their efforts to make us happy to be here at Reunion. Although only one employee receives this monthly award, all of the employees nominated receive peer and management recognition at special employee breakfasts throughout the year. You can submit a ballot for an employee who has demonstrated exceptional service at any time – not just within the month the service was performed. MERP ballots are available at all Reunion outlets, click here to access and submit a ballot online or simply email the Reunion Membership Office at MERP@reunionresort. com. A call for nominations will also be sent by the Membership Office via email once per month to remind you to submit your choice(s) for the monthly MERP award.

Inside T H E L I N E S

Playing the Big Points In order to play the big points, you must first be able to realize which points those are. “Big Points are those by which either losing or winning that point, a momentum change will occur. This momentum shift could have a huge impact on the outcome of your match. These points are 40-30, 30-40 in games, along with the add-ins and outs. Now that we have an understanding of what the big points are, we can start to figure out how to play them. The first thing you need to have is a routine. Whether your routine is simply twisting the racquet, taking a

certain number of steps, or even repeating a saying, you need to have the same preparation for these points as you would any other. You should have routines for the serve, the service return, and even while you are taking your breaks in between points. We have covered the part of tennis where you have the most control, before the point begins. Now we are going to talk about what you can do to make the actual point easier. After taking yourself through your routine, take a deep breath and be on your toes. Big points should be played with a little more room for error, meaning to hit the ball higher over the net and to also not go for the lines. You will need to use topspin to give those balls a nice dipping motion, and at the same time making sure to follow through with every shot. Most club players under pressure tend to not follow through, which gives them a completely different feeling when hitting the ball.

Come and join our singles tennis ladder if you are not already participating. To sign up or for more information, contact the Tennis Pro Shop at 407.662.1630 or tennis@reunionresort.com.
