Dear Members, I would like to officially welcome everyone to summer at Hammock Beach. Let me start by wishing all of our dads a very happy Father’s Day. Enjoy some bonding time on the green with our Father & Son Lawn Games on June 21. Treat dad to dinner this Father’s Day at the Delfinos or the Atlantic Grille—choose from a menu of pork ribs, BBQ chicken, steak with salsa verde and a variety of sides. June also brings us lots of other exciting and fun family activities. Spend time on our Champions Event Lawn— watch a movie under the stars on June 13 or a Frisbee competition on June 26. For more information about our June events, please contact your membership office. Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Hammock Beach and our sister properties. We are excited to share these great stories about our properties: Best Hotels in St. Augustine to Fit Your Traveler Personality, USA Today’s 10Best.com Top 10 Top 10, LINKS Magazine People on the Move, HOTELS Magazine Florida Golf Calendar, VISITFLORIDA.com Where to Vacation With Your Family in Florida, Family Vacation Critic Super 6: Golf resorts with best wi-fi, Examiner.com Here’s to a happy summer! Dear Club Members: I hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Holiday weekend with friends and family. The Club has been very busy with many members and guests enjoying the great weather and club amenities. I hope most members have had an opportunity to dine recently in Atlantic Grille or Delfinos Restaurant and experienced both the regular dinner menus and special member menus, which have both undergone significant changes. The special member menus are featured in this newsletter. The changes were a collaborative effort coordinated by Jeff Sacchet, our Food & Beverage Director, Hayato Nogaki, the Corporate Director of Food & Beverage, our new chefs, Chef Devin in the Atlantic Grille and Chef Ryan, the Executive Chef along with Chef Jason in Delfinos. The menu changes are a reflection unique to their culinary talents, style and influences. In addition to the new menus, the staff in both restaurants completed three weeks of service standard training. I hope you will notice improvements in service and delivery when you dine. Please keep us posted with your feedback, both good and constructive, so we may continue to make positive changes. I look forward to a busy summer season and seeing you enjoying the facilities with family and friends.

Warm regards,

Tim Digby General Manager

Advisory Board of Governors Update, b y Pre si de n t B o b Van N o st rand

Your ABOG is now in the midst of its summer schedule where we meeting every other month (June & August) to allow for accommodation of vacations and summer visitations. But at our May meeting we continue to be active in trying to enhance your member experience.

We have made some changes to the afternoon tea on Tuesday and Saturday which will take effect in the near future and be announced formally in an e-blast. These changes were necessitated because of a couple of incidents that involved teen age guests of members inviting school mates to enjoy lunch and the beach at Hammock Beach - resulting in overcrowding and us prematurely running out of food. To avoid this issue and others that have popped up, ABOG unanimously recommended the following to Club Management: • tea be moved from the Lobby Bar to Loggerheads • a membership office employee be stationed at the door to check in members • guests of each membership be limited to family and a max of TWO non-family guests • proper dress code be enforced By doing the above, we hope to improve the member’s experience by eliminating lobby confusion and non-members attending due to the physical layout. This was discussed with several frequent tea users and they thought the changes would result in a better tea experience. By the time you read this - hopefully the new member website will be announced and up and running. The last hold up is getting the golf tee time segment to function properly and it made no sense to switch over until this major segment was completed. The new website is www.theclubathammockbeach.com and is already available for you to look over. Log in with your 10 digit member number and your default password is your last name (lower case). It will become THE place to register for all club events instead of emails, phone calls walk in etc. - and will automatically generate email confirmations and control waitlists where necessary. Perhaps the biggest change will be that members will be able to access dining reservations via a link to Open Table, to BOTH Atlantic Grille and Delfinos, and that will eliminate issues on where and when to call for a Delfinos’ reservation!

Our Social committee would like to thank the 124 people who responded to our Survey Monkey concerning input on off campus events. The response and detailed feedback exceed all expectations and included some great ideas. We hope to be able to offer one event every quarter - consisting of plays, concerts, art festivals and a holiday shopping trip. These require a lot of advance prep work and the social committee has now formed a sub committee headed by Carey Smith to work on this undertaking. Stay tuned for our next event. At our May Member Manager we tried something different - after the normal meeting, food and drink - we engaged a DJ and with the help of Walter and members of our social committee – added dancing to the night. I am pleased to report that at 8:30, an hour and a half after we switched over to a member priced bar, we still had over 120 people enjoying the music and dancing. We won’t do this every month - but you can bet we’ll do this again! Lastly - at the Member Manager someone submitted a written question and asked what the golf course accommodations would be during the lodge construction. ABOG has met with Prem and Tim Digby and I can assure you there are no definite plans to relay at this time. However, if any of you golfers have ever played at Reunion on the Nicklaus course I think you likely have seen the answer to this query. Lacking a clubhouse - that course has a trailer that serves as both golf shop and restrooms and a large tented area that serves as the cart storage. Your ABOG is committed to passing along details as soon as they are made available - but I suspect in this particular case the solution will closely resemble the aforementioned set up.

Here’s wishing everyone an enjoyable and safe summer!.

Watch Your Shadow to Steady Your Head Wes Altice, Assistant Golf Professional

One major swing flaw I see on a daily basis is a head which moves laterally during the backswing. leads to inconsistent low point control which affects distance and accuracy. Notice I did not say you have to keep your head still or frozen, the head will move around a little bit hence why we use the word STEADY. Your head will move a minimal amount throughout the backswing, downswing and slightly after impact. A steady head is measured in 3 directions: 1. Vertically (up and down) – Most freedom of movement allowed 2. Laterally (side to side) – Least freedom of movement allowed 3. Perpendicular to the two above (think through a wall or off the a wall) • A great drill to help you see if you are maintaining a steady head is called the “Shadow Drill”. • Set a ball on the ground with the shadow of your head covering the ball (make sure the sun is behind you). • Take your normal backswing and try and keep the center of your head on the ball. • Do 10 reps between each shot (the first 5 with your eyes open, the second 5 with your eyes closed) and take note of the new feeling(s) you have when you do keep the center of your head on the ball • Hit a ball with YOUR new feeling(s) and watch the ball sizzle off the club face.

TENNIS TIP: For a Better Volley, Think “Knees Please” by Gene Paul Lascano, Tennis Director For many players, low volleys can be quite difficult. One common mistake that players typically make is that they bend from the waist on low volleys instead of from their knees. In the first photo, you can see I’ve bent from the waist, bowing while I attempt a backhand volley. This will make it difficult for me to remain stable during the volley and to then regain my balance in case I have to play another shot. In the second photo, I’ve gotten nice and low by bending my knees for the incoming shot. Not only will I be well balanced during and after the shot, but this will allow me to keep my racquet head up for better control of the volley. So remember, don’t waste time bending from the waist on low volleys - use your “KNEES PLEASE!”

Broga Yoga

KRIS PACE

by Thor Holm, Director of Spa, Recreation & Fitness To honor all of our Dad’s, the second quarter Health and Fitness event is for “Men Only”. On Sunday, June 14 at 9am we will be offering Broga Yoga! So what is Broga Yoga? Broga is a yoga class geared for men (where it’s okay if you can’t touch your toes). Strong, energetic, and challenging, Broga combines the best core-strengthening, muscle-toning, cardio-working, stress-reducing, clarity-enhancing yoga postures with functional fitness exercises for an amazing workout. You’ll get that pumped-up feeling you get from working out and a deep flexibility and relaxation feeling from “working in” you’ll thank yourself for making the effort to show up. Good music, cool vibes, all are welcome. A little introduction about the Instructor: Kris Pace has had a focus on fitness and competition for most of his life. After participating in multiple sports in High School, Kris played Division One Football at the University of South Carolina. After South Carolina, Kris spent his next six years serving in the United States Air Force where he headed up one of the largest fitness programs ever created in the Pacific Air Force region. Not to sit on his laurels, Kris then decided to pursue a career in the PGA where he served as an assistant Golf professional at several top Golf courses. Kris continued to challenge himself by training in martial arts and competing in mixed martial arts. Kris is an L1 Certified Trainer in Cross Fit as well as a certified Broga Yoga Instructor. This will be one of Kris Pace’s first opportunities to instruct at Hammock Beach but certainly not his last. Kris’s love of Golf and Fitness make him a perfect fit for Conservatory where Kris will begin offering personal training sessions shortly after this Broga Yoga Class. We will determine a location for the class after we see what kind of response we get. If you are interested please sign up by e-mailing the Membership Office at hbmembership@hammockbeach.com
