Managing Director’s Corner

The Reunion Club, “Reunion Club of Orlando” and Encore, “Encore Housing Opportunity Fund”, are pleased to announce improvements that will benefit everyone associated within the Reunion community, highlighted by a new Clubhouse at the Club’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. The agreement, reached in a spirit of cooperation and, fittingly, at the 10-year anniversary of Reunion Resort, will also enhance Membership opportunities, expand Club amenities and enable Encore to create luxury custom-built new homes with spectacular views of the Nicklaus Course. More details will be forthcoming over the following weeks, but some of the projects already underway include: • The Club’s commencement of design of the New Nicklaus Course Clubhouse, which will be located along Traditions Boulevard. • The Jack Nicklaus Design Team has visited the property and begun work on a plan to relocate and reorient the Driving Range, and also reconfigure the 17th and 18th holes, which will create a stunning finish and enhance the playing experience, while maintaining the course’s signature designation.

gath erings | 4

• Encore will commence major earthwork operations on land adjacent to the 17th and 18th holes and Traditions Boulevard. You will soon see silt fencing around certain areas of the course as preparation work begins. As we have more information on these projects, including a timeline on the course reconfiguration and clubhouse completion, we will share directly and expediently with you.

The New Year has started in an exciting fashion for us all at Reunion.

Member/Employee (Reunion Cup)

Toys for Tots Charity Event

Anglo-American Cup The fourth Annual Anglo-American Cup kicked off the New Year’s Eve celebrations at Reunion with 56 participants. Last year’s winners (Team America) were determined to retain the cup. All players that participated played individual net Stableford with seventy five percent of their handicap. Team America, led by Debbie Mayer, won with 844 points versus 799 points for the European side, which was led by Kim Harvey.

gath erings | 5

Our yearly Toys for Tots event was another success this year, where our members gathered to donate numerous toys and take part in our annual scramble. Each team received 10 percent of their team handicap and it turned out to be a close race between all teams participating. In the end, it was the team of Chris and Carole Clegg, and Jim and Virginia Shelton who took first place with a score of net 55.1. There was a tie for second place with a score of 56.1 and the winner of the match of cards was the team of T.J Cosgrove, Jack Haynes, and two guests. The team that got third, losing in the match of cards, consisted of Gary and Debbie Mayer, and Darryl and Brenda Rendleman. The toys were later received by a member of the Marine Corps. Over 50 toys were collected!

This year’s Reunion Member-Employee Cup was a four person scramble consisting of three members and one employee. Each team received ten percent of their team handicap. This year’s gross champions were the team of Mark and Sue Greenstein, Trudy Hobbs, and Don Larcher. Placing first in the net category was the team of Alan Gardner, Mike Payne, Bill Sussman, and Will Young. We had a good time showing off employees’ skills with a total of nine service professionals that participated.

frankly golf

As you know, putting is 45% of your score. At the Frankly Golf Putting Academy, we want to help you improve this part of your game. Here are three easy ways you can shave strokes off your game. Make sure your putter is properly fitted Most of the putters we use are hand me downs from a relative or bought out of a store and have not been properly fitted for the golfer; as a result, we are invariably using putters that are too long for us and therefore, we need to compensate within our stroke. Here at the Frankly Golf Putting Academy, we make sure that your putter is properly fitted so you can perform to the best of your ability. Take advantage of putter technology Many of us are using blade style putter technology, when in fact, we would benefit from more of a mallet style putter, which helps forgive our mistakes. So make it easier on the green by testing out one of our Frankly Frog putters, right here at the Putting Academy, which will help stabilize your stroke and provide a larger forgiveness zone for your putts. Take a putting lesson It’s time to join the many golfers of varying skill levels that have taken putting lessons from us here at the Frankly Golf Putting Academy. We will help you improve your putting quickly and easily. Unlike the full swing, with putting you can see big improvements in a very short period of time, as well as develop an understanding of how your stroke should move. To book an appointment, please call 407.396.4004 or just call in!

To book a putting lesson at the PAD, call 407.396.4004. Individual and Group lessons are available. franklygolf.com/golfequipmentqaarchive.aspx or stop by the Putting PAD on your next visit to Reunion Resort!

Marla Davis

gath erings | 14

Marla Davis, Clubhouse Bartender, Receives Reunion Club Member Recognition Program (MERP) Award for December Marla has been at Reunion since April 2005 and is a loyal employee not only to Members, but the Resort as well. To make your day a little brighter, visit Marla to order your morning coffee and say hello. Member name recognition is also high on her list and makes members feel welcomed. She is glad you are part of her day. As one Member wrote on one of the many ballots, “No matter what your request, she will try to do her best.”

“MERP” Member Employee Recognition Program gives Members the opportunity to recognize deserving Reunion employees. Every outlet has ballots available for you to nominate and describe why you think the employee should be the next winner. Remember to take advantage of this opportunity and let them know we notice and appreciate their efforts to make us happy to be here at Reunion.

Loyalty to the Members and Reunion is only one of Marla’s good qualities. Making Members feel no request is too big is what makes her extra special. Marla received multiple MERP recognitions ballots, not only in December, but also throughout 2014.

Although only one employee receives this monthly award, all of the employees nominated receive peer and management recognition at special employee breakfasts throughout the year.

At the January Member Reception, Marla received a Reunion gift card and special name tag that symbolizes her as a Member Employee Recognition Program recipient. She will be considered along with other MERP recipients for the annual award which is a two-night stay in any one of the three Florida Salamander Resorts. Next time you see Marla, please congratulate her on the receipt of this award as well as her longstanding service with Reunion.

You can submit a ballot for an employee who has demonstrated exceptional service at any time – not just within the month the service was performed. MERP ballots are available at all Reunion outlets or click here to access and submit a ballot online. Your online explanation is limited to 500 characters.

REUNION RESORT 2014 ANNUAL MERP AWARD WINNERS The Member Employee Recognition Program Committee recently named the overall winners for 2014. These employees were recognized for their exceptional service at the January Member/Manager Reception on Friday, January 9.

FIRST PLACE JAKE ETHERTON GOLF SHOP A young man who always has a smile for everyone coming into the Golf Shop or encounters him throughout Reunion. He finds prompt remedies for Member’s needs and wishes. Questions are always answered with respect and a positive attitude. One Member commented: “In years past, the assistant golf pros were periodically sent out (on the clock) to play with us on Member days.” Jake said he would inquire about it. “The next Friday Jake came in on his day off and played in our TGIF event. No pay, just did it!” Jake not only received positive MERP comments during the month he won, but continued to receive them throughout the year. As one Member commented, “His ability to interact with all is a great gift.” Another comment: “Jake deserves an A+.”

CONGRATULATIONS JAKE! YOU ARE THE 2014 ANNUAL MERP AWARD, FIRST PLACE WINNER! Jake and a guest will enjoy two days at one of Salamander’s Florida resorts, a round of golf, and a $250 credit to spend during his visit. A well deserved recognition.

Greeting Members by name is a regular experience from Luis. Going out of his way to assist a Member or any guest of Reunion is just part of his nature. Not

This kind of extra attention and care makes being a Member of Reunion a true pleasure. No matter if you are pulling up to the front door to valet park your car or just walking into the Grande lobby, Luis makes you feel good to be a Member of Reunion.

CONGRATULATIONS LUIS! YOU ARE THE 2014 MERP AWARD, FIRST RUNNER-UP! Luis and a guest will enjoy dinner for two at Eleven, plus a bottle of house wine. Reunion Members appreciate all you do for us.

SECOND RUNNER-UP MARLA DAVIS CLUBHOUSE BAR Marla has been at Reunion since the clubhouse opened, a loyal employee not only to Members, but the Resort as well. As one Member wrote on one of the many ballots: “No matter what your request, she will try to do her best.” Loyalty to the Members and Reunion is only one of Marla’s good qualities. Inside T H E L I N E S

Patterns in the Game of Tennis The whole game of tennis is made up of patterns and patterns that are broken. Singles is a game of distinct pattern of waiting for the first weak ball to jump on top of. Doubles is more of a game of cross-court pattern, then attacking the net to try and finish the point off. We are going to discuss both types of play, singles and doubles with patterns. We all know that there are higher percentage shots when playing either singles or doubles, but what you might not know is when the best time is to change them.

In the world of doubles, it is mostly played with a long rally of cross court shots with a net player finally putting an end to the point with a volley. Again, there are times to change this pattern; when your opponents’ net man plays too much to the middle, and also when you feel that you have the ability to surprise them with the change. In all of tennis there are patterns, those patterns are there to help with difficult times. When changing these patterns, the score should be in your favor and you should feel confident doing the shot; if not, don’t commit. I hope these facts help you conquer some of your difficult situations on the tennis court

gath erings | 23

The world of singles is played predominately by matching the shot that your opponent hit to you. Be it the height, spin, or direction, these all are going to determine what pattern you should keep. By keeping the pattern, you are giving yourself the best possibility of making

your next shot with the greatest ease. There is a time, though, when you should break that pattern; that comes when your opponent hits a short shot, giving you the ability to jump on the ball and go for the down-the-line winner.
