A Season & A Purpose

T

he primary purpose of Orlando’s Amway Center is without question, to house the NBA’s Orlando Magic. The venue most commonly known for its cheering fans and passionate players during basketball season gave up its court and yielded its stands to thousands who stopped by for a multi-racial, meg-church style worship service known around the region as “Easter at Amway.” The Resurrection Sunday worship service at Orlando’s Amway Center dwarfed recent racial tensions rising from the Trayvon Martin tragedy just north of Orlando, as some 15,000 attendees filled the Center with a unified praise. Predominantly white First Baptist of Orlando, and the predominantly black Hope Church of Orlando united their efforts and their congregations in an unprecedented show of faith-centered racial harmony at a critical season in Central Florida’s history. There could not have been a more appropriate, more strategic moment for Pastor David Uth of First Baptist and Bishop Allen Wiggins of The Hope to share a physical, spiritual and social platform. Families seated inside the Amway Center were not the only beneficiaries of the unity worship service; as attendees were encouraged to offer up praise to God and a pair of new shoes to a person in need. The Amway Center may have been built for basketball, but it has also been commissioned as a catalyst for community cohesion.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Remember to Forget

here is a small city on the outskirts of Jacksonville, called Callahan, FL. It is approximately 30-45 minutes from downtown, and I had to go there to take the blank t-shirts to be printed for my teamipray.com t-shirt line. I knew that one of my tires was worn and desperately needed

Victims of abuse often instinctively flinch at the sight of someone's hand coming toward them, even when there is no malevolent intent at all. Memories of a violated trust sometimes unexpectedly surface in husbands and wives, although the offense happened years before.

One of the things that keeps us from moving toward destiny is the haunting memories of our past. No matter what it is...you have to remember to forget. to be replaced; but like a typical man, I decided to make ONE LAST TREK on that tire. The short 30-minute ride seemed like an eternity as I made my way up the road. My car, which would normally be fairly quiet, was extremely noisy that day- and the vibration of the steering wheel if I did anything above 50 miles per hour was annoying to say the least. By the grace of God, I made it there and back home safely. The next day, I couldn't bear how uncomfortable it was to drive the car any more (not to mention the safety hazard). I took the car and got the tire changed. It drove almost like a brand new car. The ride was smooth and quiet and enjoyable again. Later that day, I had to make the journey back to Callahan to pick up the shirts I had left the day before. For some odd reason, when I reached a certain part of the trip, I began to drive my car like I had the day before. Even though the car was handling 50 mph with ease this time, my still hands gripped the wheel tightly as they had the day before. Although the speed limit allowed for 60 mph, I kept it around 50 because that was a comfortable speed for my less than perfect ride the previous day. It wasn't long before I found myself questioning why I was behaving like this. In an instant, it was like a light went off in my head. I had subconsciously brought yesterday's struggle into today's journey. Then, in a voice that seemed almost audible, I heard Him whisper “Remember to forget.” We go into relationships, both amorous and otherwise, guarded and insecure because of pain inflicted by people from our past. I have seen people who have recovered from various illnesses walk around paralyzed with fear that the sickness would soon be back to haunt them. 8

I submit to you today, that one of the things that keep us from moving toward destiny is the haunting memories of our past. No matter what it is...you have to remember to forget. Like my experience in the car, I will not tell you that the memories won't surface. But when we identify that they have risen to torment us and keep us from experiencing our lives within the limits that God has set...we must immediately decide to forget the things that are behind and focus on what is ahead. Life is too short to simply exist. The future is only limited to our ability to properly handle our past. I remind you…YOU ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE…YOU HAVE TO “MAKE IT COUNT.”

Urinary Tract Infection

U

rinary tract infection, otherwise known as UTI is the general term given to infection that can occur throughout the urinary tract system. Urinary tract infections and cystitis are a major health concern and are more frequent in women than men.

The treatment of urinary tract infections and cystitis may require an antibacterial, analgesic preparation responsible for the infection and to fight the pain; but, these treatments have adverse effects notably by increasing risks of germ resistance. Urine can pass bacteria and pus before being treated. Urinary tract infection can result in inflammation (called cystitis), that can also occur with or without infection being present. If one or both kidneys are involved, then the term used to describe this condition is nephritis. An autoimmune disease is an individuals’ own system attacking a certain area of the body. UTI is similar to this situation in the fact that bacteria which causes the UTI is usually the individual’s normal intestinal organisms, that under certain circumstances are able to pass from the area around the anus into the urethra. The urethra is a tube connecting the bladder with the outside of the body, so the bacteria can pass into the bladder. Whenever urinary tract infections occur they can be a persistent problem. Unfortunately, because of the anatomy of a woman, women are more frequently affected with UTIs. However, men with an enlarged prostate can also experience urinary tract infection. Prostatitis, or obstruction of the urethra by an enlarged prostate can lead to incomplete bladder emptying, therefore, increasing the risk of infection. The risk of urinary tract infection is increased in people with kidney stones, spinal cord injury, suppressed immune systems such as AIDS and diabetes, or others who take immunosuppressant medications. Again, because of the anatomy of the woman, if she is highly sexually active, it dramatically increases the risk of urinary tract infection. Urinating after intercourse appears to reduce the risk of urinary tract infection. Women who also use a diaphragm for birth control are at greater risk. Circumcised males are at greater risk than uncircumcised males. There may be special groups that we should be aware of that could experience urinary tract infection, which is not common, but cannot be ruled out; from very young infants, to children of all ages. It would not be wise to treat with natural alternatives, an infant or young child with a potential urinary tract infection without first consulting a physician. There is considerable evidence to support the use of polyphenols and organic acids of hibiscus sabdariffa for the prevention of urinary tract infections. Recent clinical studies using the innovative concept of hibiscus extract cut the incidence of urinary tract infections by 77%. Hibiscus sabdariffa containing acidic compounds known as calyces. This compound is known to acidify and deodorize the urine and protect against urinary infections as well as kidney disorders (formation of stones), and can inhibit and prevent the causal agent in 80-95% of acute non-complicated cystitis. Cranberry has long been known for its medicinal value and uses, and widely recognized in the United States. It has more recently enjoyed its popularity because of its ability to support a healthy urinary tract. When using a high quality cranberry extract, you can enjoy the following benefits: It is more productive to the urinary tract than 10-12 ounces of cranberry juice. With this high quality extract, it can promote urinary tract health with just a single dose per day. This superior extract possesses a bacterial anti-adherence factor known to decrease the risk of bladder and kidney infections. Using both cranberry and hibiscus is far more effective than using either one by itself. For additional information on this topic contact us or visit our website at www.mynaturesdelight.com

Say No to PMS...

and YES to Nutrition&Diet ne of the major causes of PMS is poor nutrition…the consumption of excessive carbohydrates such as white and brown sugar, and white flour and cereals containing sugar or white flour. The prolonged use of non-natural foods combined with an explosion of manufactured chemicals containing petrochemical additives have contributed to a breakdown in the immune system of people living in industrial nations since the early part of this century. The present generation suffers many health problems related to inadequate dietary practices. This situation will continue to worsen if this generation does not change its awareness about diet and nutrition. Although males should take interest and responsibility in nutrition and dietary habits of the family, it is usually the females who are in control. Children as well, need to learn about diet and nutrition. The first step is to buy as many fresh fruits and vegetables (organic) as possible, regardless of the off season or limited selection. Read your labels. Learn to spot the excessive presence of sugar and salt in canned and frozen foods, and processed and packaged foods. For an example, cereals usually contain excessive amounts of sugar.

18

Another problem is soft drinks. They are popular, but contain high amounts of phosphorus, which blocks calcium absorption. Even the so-called sugarless drinks can be misleading. This term means the product does not contain table sugar or sucrose. Theses drinks contain artificial sweeteners such as Saccharin found in Sweet N Low or Sugar Twin, Aspartame found in NutraSweet and Equal, Acesulfame Potassium found in Sweet One, of which can all be more harmful than regular sugar.

Avoid a food product labeled “enriched,” which has been stripped of natural nutrients, and of which a few vitamins and minerals re-added. The best example of enriched food is white bread or flour. The whole grain containing 25 vital nutrients is removed during processing to produce a white powder end product, seriously deficient in most of the original vitamins and minerals. The re-added vitamins are usually B1, B2, and sometimes calcium. The original quality and quantity of nutrients found in whole grain is lost.

Still another problem is table salt used in excess. Estrogen is affected by salt intake. If estrogen is excessive, it can potentiate internal salt concentrations which binds to water, causing fluid retention. The water pressure increases inside cells, including cells of the brain and nervous system, which can irritate nerve endings. As a result, a woman may experience headaches, dizziness, agitation, nervousness, and confusion. In addition, she may experience weight gain and feel bloated. All of these symptoms may be decreased by reducing salt intake.

The reason refined carbohydrates should be avoided is they are practically devoid of essential B-complex vitamins and trace minerals. The body requires these nutrients for proper digestion and assimilation. Eventually, the body stores of theses vitamins and trace minerals are depleted resulting in weight gain, low energy, poor sleep patterns, depression, and for women…symptoms of PMS.

Along with the consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, unrefined whole grain products, protein, nuts and seeds, is the intake of a nutritional supplement.

www .G ospel NOW. net

Sea salt is natural salt, unrefined and loaded with trace minerals as well as sodium and chloride. Natural salt is necessary in the diet for blood pressure regulation, proper circulation, and oxygen concentration, especially in older people.

Vitamin C, B-complex, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc , A, D, E and Trace Minerals should be supplemented along with roughage and filtered water to reduce PMS symptoms. If you have PMS, you should suspect a yeast problem (Candida albicans). Yeast problems are not restricted to the vagina only, but may affect other organs as well. The giveaway symptoms are often the same as PMS symptoms, such as memory loss, fatigue, confusion and depression, constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating and genital discharges, rash, itching, and discomfort. Yeast and fungal conditions have become prevalent since the advent of antibiotics. Antibiotics destroy not only harmful bacteria, but also friendly bacteria. Yeasts are present in everyone from birth and can be adversely affected by antibiotics. Without competition from normal intestinal bacteria, they can proliferate and overwhelm the immune system. The yeast produces potent toxins which are carried to all parts of the body causing a multitude of symptoms. The principle habitat of yeast is in the intestinal tract. Yeast thrives on various forms of carbohydrates. Therefore, the elimination of all forms of sugar, lactose (milk sugar), sugar cane, beets, fruits, honey, white flour, starches, alcohol, fermented products (beer, wine, cheese, grapes, mushrooms), and fruit juices must be avoided because of the high carbohydrate concentration from 21 days to 24 months or more. In addition to dietary restrictions, there are additional botanical remedies that inhibit yeast growth such as, lactobacillus acidophilus, digestive enzymes, garlic, paudarco, olive leaf, and oregano. Low thyroid function often contributes to Yeast and PMS symptoms. Contact our office for additional information or visit our website at www.mynaturesdelight.com. PMS Multi: Easy to swallow. Recommend taking 2 tablets at each meal for a total of 6 tablets per day. This is a prolonged release formula, nutrient absorption and utilization. Contains 300 IU of vitamin E, 1500 mg vitamin C, and 300 mg of vitamin B-6 (highest of all multi's!). Maintaining adequate levels of B-6, magnesium and vitamin E have been identified as key nutrients associated with relieving some PMS symptoms. PMS multi also includes enzymes for digestion.

Natural Remedies for Menopause

W

hether you call it “the change” or just menopause, it is a challenging time, and the symptoms can make life feel a little out of control. There are days when it can feel like menopause – and not you – is in charge. This inevitable fact of life brings with it a host of symptoms – sometimes severe, and sometimes not – that need to be addressed in order to keep a healthy, vibrant life and a positive perspective. Unfortunately, many of the conventional choices available bring with them the risk of serious consequences, including the increased risk of breast cancer. For women in menopause – or their supportive partners, family members, or friends – there is a natural way to fight the mood swings, night sweats, hot flashes, and other symptoms that does not involve using risky hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Let’s look at a few products that may eliminate and or help make a big difference without risking bone density loss, heart health, or developing breast cancer.

First, menopause is NOT a disease! Menopause

“officially” begins when a woman has gone for 12 consecutive months without menstruating; and on average it occurs at 50 years old. Of course, that doesn’t mean that she can’t experience some menopausal symptoms beforehand. In fact, some women in their late 30’s and early 40’s may have hot flashes, night sweats, or other symptoms that could be called “perimenopause,” but still have regular monthly periods.

Major signs and symptoms of menopause include: Hot flashes and night sweats: Hot flashes and night sweats are common, occurring in 75% to 85% of all women during menopause.

Irritability: The unpredictability of fluctuating

hormone levels, the discomfort of hot flashes, and a lack of sleep (brought on by night sweats) make irritability one of the common symptoms of menopause.

Loss of libido: Whenever there’s added stress, loss of

libido is an understandable result. During menopause, some of the reasons can have very common physical causes, such as vaginal dryness, associated with itching and irritation.

Sea Buckthorn: an amazing botanical that can hydrate the mucous membranes throughout the body – including the vagina—and be very helpful during this time. Hop Cone Extract (Humulus lupulus): Most people have heard of the hop plant’s ability to promote sleep – which is certainly important for anyone dealing with night sweats – but this plant provides other benefits, too. First, hops contain naturally-occurring phytoestrogens that have mild estrogenic effects and are extremely safe and effective. Hop cone extract is a natural solution for all menopausal symptoms and is also suitable for those who have trouble sleeping and need natural support. Better sleep, combined with the fact that hop cone extract also helps stabilize mood swings, enhances concentration, and decreases irritability, takes care of a lot of the stress of menopause. Hop cone extract is also a

strong antioxidant, so it can reduce the natural oxidative damage that is simply a part of everyday life.

Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa): As an

herbal ingredient, black cohosh stands as one of the best known. It was used as a medicinal plant by the Native Americans, and has been the focus of research (and real life use) for over 50 years, and may provide some protection against the development of breast cancer cells because of its influence on hormonal balance as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). In fact, for this reason, it has been considered an excellent intervention for breast cancer survivors who need to reduce menopause symptoms, but don’t want to deal with the risks of standard hormone therapy.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum): The pomegranate

fruit has become popular in recent years, especially as a juice ingredient, and with good reason. Its amazingly strong antioxidant supports the cardiovascular system, reduces inflammation, protects joint cartilage, and for individuals with diabetes, raised levels of glutathione (the body’s own natural antioxidant) by 141%. There is also some mild estrogenic activity attributed to pomegranate along with reports that it may relieve some of the symptoms of depression and bone loss associated with menopause. Pomegranate has very strong antibacterial power and could even help fight bacteria such as E. coli. Pomegranate’s free-radical fighting power is a must for keeping skin looking younger and more vibrant, too. Pomegranate helps protect skin cells against UV radiation, and can actually promote wound healing. Of course, preventing free radical damage isn’t just about keeping healthy skin. Oxidative stress can cause heart and artery-damaging inflammation and lead to heart disease. Pomegranate juice has been shown to decrease LDL cholesterol aggregation, lower blood pressure, and boost the activity of enzymes that protect LDL from oxidation. Breakthrough Technology for Testing What Your Body Needs

I

f your body could tell you what it needs to be healthy, what would it say? More water? A change in diet? Supplements? When it comes to optimum well being, your body can tell you what it needs, but how do you talk to your body to find out what that is?

We have incorporated an assessment tool to help give us another in-office tool (and Virtual - yes we can test you no matter where you are as long as you have access to the internet) to help qualify and quantify what is going on in the body! Our painless technology allows us to communicate with your body. In conjunction with our other assessment technique, we can test your body to see which foods, supplements, and/or natural remedies are most compatible with it. This personalized bi-feedback system is designed to measure one’s body's state of homeostasis. Much disease results from disturbance of homeostasis, a condition known as homeostatic imbalance. As it ages, every organism will lose efficiency in its control systems. The inefficiencies gradually result in an unstable internal environment that increases the risk for illness. In addition, homeostatic imbalance is also responsible for the physical changes associated with aging. The technology has the ability to eaves drops on energetic cellular communication. This is done by monitoring the electrical changes in Galvanic Skin Response or GSR, the same technology used for over a century in equipment such as the polygraph test. Much like the polygraph, the same is sending stimuli to the body and measuring the responses. Everything on the planet has an electrical current. We are literally electrical beings in search of a recharge. Every electrical current is unique, like a fingerprint. A NASA scientist measured and identified the electrical current for 30,000 different energies -- foods, bacteria, pesticides, you name it. All of which have been programmed into the software. This cutting-edge technology from the principles of 22

www .G ospel NOW. net

Information Theory and Quantum Physics works with your body's ability to respond to stimuli in order to gather data and decipher stressors that may be affecting it.

Some examples of things that might be out of balance in your body are: • Fatigue • Bacteria • Parasites • Allergens • Nutritional Deficiencies • Heavy Metals • Hormonal Imbalances • Mold/Fungus • Toxins • Viruses • Chemicals • Pollutants • Disease • and more ... How the testing is done: This technology is an interface between your body through a bio-communication software in an ergonomically designed hand cradle. You simply rest your hand on the cradle while the computer sends digital stressors and gathers your response data. Acupuncture Acupuncture is a practice of traditional Chinese Medicine that more than three million Americans use for relaxation as well as medical conditions. Very thin and flexible, just a little larger than a cat’s whisker needles are placed at specific points along the fourteen energy pathways. Scientists believe that the points help release the flow of the body’s vital energy causing the body to release endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, and may help boost blood flow. Those endorphins in turn stimulate the release of cortisol, the body’s stress fighting and anti- inflammatory hormone. A 20-30 min session of acupuncture will leave you with a heightened physical, emotional, and mental state of well-being.

S i s a un d r a “Daddy, I Want to Sing!”

A

s gracious as she is grateful, powerhouse vocalist and extraordinary performer, Sisaundra Lewis captivates audiences around the globe with her enrapturing gift of song. From the orchards and fields of Lake Hamilton, Arkansas, to center stage at Cirque du Soleil and beyond, Sisaundra Lewis’ amazing vocal ability has impacted and influenced the music industry from jingles and voiceovers, to recordings and record-breaking performances. An unquestionable gift, and an incredible talent lies within the soul of a woman, most affectionately known for her mastery of the voice and her understanding of its tremendous ability to reach and resonate with power and persuasion. Gospel Now invites you to share in a privileged experience as Sisaundra Lewis takes us on an amazing journey from dreaming to delivering.

Your vocal and performance career has allowed you to share the stage with many of the greatest artists of our day. Where did all of this begin; at what point did you become aware that you had been given a unique gift of song? Since age 5 I have been guided by my gift and my innate passion for voice performance. I'm a preacher’s kid, "Bishop Lewis’ baby girl." I discovered my unique gift of song in church. Yes, my quest for vocal perfection has taken me around the world, a few times. The blessings and honors bestowed upon me have made me want to pinch my own self at times. Sharing the stage or studio with artists like Jay Leno, Celine Dion, Sting, Elton John, Peabo Bryson, Najee, Marvin Hamlisch, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Patti Labelle, Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, Michael Bolton, Sheila E., David Letterman, Arsenio Hall etc...has been very motivating, inspiring and humbling. 2. What path of development is responsible for cultivating the competence and confidence demonstrated in your performances? It embodies the culmination of a few things. After being a migrant worker, working in the orange groves and apple orchards from age 1 til’ 16, finally, one day the Heavens shined down on me after the Fruit Contractor, our Dad, asked my sister and I, "So what are you gonna’ do with your lives? Do you want to be fruit pickers all your life?" My sister stopped picking fruit, joined the Air Force and is now the Dean of Business at a University with a Doctorate Degree....The answer

and decision came quickly from me, I HAD to sing. From that day forward, my parents allowed me to be the first of 8 kids to discover the world of music. My voice cried out as I SANG quite passionately for deliverance from laboring in those groves, for way over a decade. It was my turn to TAKE my gift far and beyond. I'd never heard any other genre of music besides Gospel. The next few years I intensely studied every artist recommended to me. I memorized over 400 songs to wholeheartedly submerge my voice into their style, into their artistic moment. I watched and listened with excitement. I observed and shared with fellow artists on all levels, around the world. Celine Dion would often come to me in sound check whilst I was teaching the other singers; she loved to sing the bridge and chorus of Ain't Nobody in harmony. LOL! Good times... I also remember us almost getting fired by Mr. Bryson for singing a Stevie Wonder song during his rehearsal. (oops) LOL! Those "three words" we never mic checked or harmonized again, in Peabo's presence. ;-) In a nutshell, my competence comes from my eagerness to master my craft by studying and executing my observation with 100% accuracy on my mind. My confidence comes from the assurance I feel from the first breath I take and note I sing. Something GREATER than I could ever be lives inside my gift; and it gives me the power to deliver the message, clearly, through my life trials. 3. You are credited with the development of a method called “The Naked Voice™.” Explain how the concept originated. The concept of the Naked Voice comes from my childhood. After school and work, it was time for Bishop Lewis and the family to go to church! I grew up singing in a very small charismatic church, where there were no musicians and I was too young to sing with my siblings; so my Dad gave me a shot at a solo before he preached. The pressure to connect with my voice, and touch the souls of the demanding congregation kept me nervous, yet curious [enough] to try. The spaces where the music would be, if I had musicians, I soon learned to fill with percussive sounds, cries of emotions or sustained notes. As my gift allowed me to travel, my repertoire of sounds and techniques began to grow. I apply it to my performances at Cirque as well as jazz, pop, country & gospel. Any genre can benefit from the Naked Voice. 4. What does the method entail? The Naked Voice performance training allows the sincerity and diversity of your true voice to stand up and be noticed. 5. How does The Naked Voice™ impact a singer’s delivery? The wonderful feedback I receive from my voice clients is that the Naked Voice empowers their delivery. It gives them the confidence to perform on a higher, yet more comfortable level. Naked Voice licenses you to feel free and take chances. With this method, you learn every intricacy of your voice, every texture and every

color through mastering your gift in its most vulnerable state, acapella. 6. Is there an age that is too young to begin utilizing this method? I would say the best age to start utilizing the Naked Voice would be around seven years old, when the focus is there; because it certainly takes a great amount of discipline to work with students on perfecting a gift that they're just probably realizing they have. 7. Describe the candidate who may most likely benefit from The Naked Voice™ method. My main focus with training vocalists today would be professional voices, praise and worship leaders and recording artists. My roster of professional clients includes Grammy, Stellar and Dove winning talents. The music ministry is an integral part of the church. 8. To what extent do diet, exercise, and habits affect the voice? To the greatest extent. I cardio train my clients while singing. Core stability is crucial to proper breathing. A balanced diet keeps the body strong and ready to deliver. 9. Is it possible to injure or impair the quality of a voice? One can certainly injure or impair the quality of their voice by not-so healthy daily routines. To perform 500 shows a year, it is very important that I take very good care of my voice; and I do have a regiment that I go by so that I will be able to deliver all [of] those performances. It is certainly important that singers remember to warm up and sing from the diaphragm while performing at all times. Also, take the time to cool down after performances. 10. Is The Naked Voice™ a method that could be instrumental in restoring vocal quality? I know for fact that the Naked Voice is instrumental in restoring vocal quality, for the simple reason I think a lot of singers hide behind musicians and the bed of music so they can hide their flaws. With the Naked Voice you have to present everything that you have up front, because there's nothing to cover your errors or flaws. What it does is it allows you to identify your weak areas and it allows me to help you to strengthen them so that your voice can stand alone. 11. Your professional expertise will continue to attract singers and performers from many genres. How would a performer contact you, and what could they expect upon doing so? I'm available to encourage other singers / musicians via email,

aving souls, strengthening families, and building communities are the objectives driving the vision of Changing Your World Church International, under the leadership of Bishop Gary Wheeler and his wife and ministry partner, Pastor Samantha Wheeler. This anointed pastor, teacher, husband, and father is as passionate about the transformation of lives, as he is about the transformation of communities. This explains the concern that he has for, and the compassion that he demonstrates toward one of Central Florida’s most densely populated and crime-ridden communities. Often seen under the spotlight for the negative situations that arise from its streets, Pine Hills has become a diamond mine in the heart of Bishop Wheeler and the Changing Your World Church International, where souls, like diamonds are being excavated from some of the most dim and deprived circumstances experienced by modern-day families. Bishop Gary Wheeler speaks briefly with Gospel Now about his passion for souls, and his purpose in the trenches of Central Florida’s battlefields.

Other than responding to a divine call of God, what was the “natural” order of progression for your life that landed you in this position? It started before I was conceived in my mother’s womb. God had a plan for my life. I was always the different one, the original one. I wore suits to school because I loved to look sharp. The teacher would always call me little preacher, and in the school plays I would always play Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I have always been independent and an entrepreneur. My Dad instilled hard work within us at an early age. I knew that I would be successful in this life; I just did not know the road God would take me down. One particular morning, about 6:00am, I was driving to work and the Lord spoke to me saying “I am about to prepare you to preach the gospel.” I started preparing to preach God’s Word and applying the principles of God in my life. Through the years, the Lord sharpened my skills and gifts and I would give the people what the Lord gave me, utilizing the Word of God. What is it about leading God’s people that you enjoy the most? I enjoy teaching, motivating, and inspiring God’s people with the Word of God. It is such a joy to see people’s lives transformed as they start applying the word to their everyday lives, coming back to the ministry with awesome testimonies of what the Lord has done for them through the revelation and insight He has given me. I am convinced that the Word of God works if you work it. Tell us about your ministry and what visitors can expect. When visitors or guests come to Changing Your World Church Int’l they can expect a life-changing experience. Our greeters will welcome you with a warm hug and a smiling face as they take you to your seat. You will feel God’s presence and enjoy anointed singing from our worship team, and expect to hear a thought-provoking message from the Word of God. Upon leaving you will receive love from the congregation as everyone thanks you for visiting. You are actively engaged in a project designed to impact the city of Orlando in a phenomenal way. Tells us about the vision and some of its

objectives. The Dream Center of Orlando is a nonprofit organization, birthed out of the heart of Changing Your World Church Int’l. We are making an impact in the Pine Hills area and throughout the City of Orlando. We offer a variety of programs for the community, such as a food bank, GED classes, on-site job programs, after school tutoring and feeding the homeless. We strive to keep our youth off of the streets, and teach them to be a positive role model for others to follow. Now that your feet are planted in Central Florida, where do you “grow” from here? Our ministry is healthy and growing, as God is adding souls to the Kingdom daily. Our next phase in ministry is to position ourselves to take the land the Lord has given us. We are believing that God is raising up somebody, somewhere to use their power, abilities and influence to help us to buy the plaza we’re currently in. Give us the information on where you’re located, how we may connect with the ministry, and what opportunities exist for us to participate in a worship experience at Changing Your World Church International? Changing Your World Church Int’l is a non-denominational ministry, and is a kingdom for all people. You are welcome to visit our ministry on Wednesday nights at 7pm for Victory in the Word Bible Study, or Sunday morning for our Exposed to Faith Service at 11am. We are located at 4300 Clarcona-Ocoee Road, Suite 401, Orlando Fl 32808. agers, VCR’s, Atari’s and Tandy Computers, where has the time gone? The last 30 years have taken technology to a new frontier that we could only dream about when we watched shows like Star Trek or cartoons like the Jetsons. These innovations have put our society on the information super highway with no exits in sight; but with all things, too much of anything can open a virtual Pandora’s Box that can never be closed again.

Technology has become an integral part of our everyday lives, from phones that can do everything except drive our car, to video games that are so interactive that we can physically participate in them. These gadgets can bring hours of enjoyment, as well as pain and heartache. From sexting to cyber-bullying, our children are increasingly being exposed to those who abuse technology at an alarming rate. As a child we are taught to never talk to strangers, but the cyber world has taken strangers to another level. Social media and text messaging have opened a virtual door to your child, taking stalking, bullying, sexting, and the mob mentality to a critical limit. Most parents claim ignorance to technology, because they do not have time or will not take the time to learn about what their kids are involved in, yet still want the lines of communication to be open. Many households have a “No Door Closed” rule in their home, yet they never check what is happening with the door open, at the dinner table, in the car or while watching television right next to them. Technology has created a subculture that many parents are unaware of. This subculture includes: A special language, reduced face-to-face social interaction and physical activity, to name a few. This subculture has even driven some kids to believe that these virtual worlds are real enough to try in the real world, without understanding there is no delete button, or re-set in real life. Here are some suggestions or simply ideas to help open up real lines of communication in your home.

Cell Phones 1. Centralized docking – To prevent your children from late night texting, dock the phone in a common area. 2. Check your bill – If your child knows that you are checking the bill randomly, they will be less inclined to break your rules. They can delete stuff out of the phone, but they cannot delete items from the bill.

Computers 1. Common Area – By placing the computer in a common area, it will eliminate or greatly reduce what your child views, or sites they visit. 34

www .G ospel NOW. net

2. Check History – Periodically check the history or purchase a program that monitors the internet activity. 3. Set up Users – By setting up different users, you can create different user settings that can control what your child views.

Video Games 1. Research – Know what your child is playing, or at least what you are buying. Every game your child owns has a rating and is reviewed on the internet. 2. Marketing – Do not get caught up in the hype. Your child has been bombarded by commercials to make them think that a game is the best thing ever, but the commercials are designed to do what they do... make you want the next best thing. 3. Monitor Friends – Now that gaming can be done online, be mindful who your child is communicating with while they are gaming. 4. Sit and Watch – Sit and interact with your child, so you can see what they are playing. Be mindful that a lot of video games are violent, and too much of it will desensitize your child to the disturbing things that video games project.

Social Media 1. Stay Connected – Whether you want a social media site or not, the day your child wants one is the day you need to set one up for yourself. Know how to navigate and what people discuss on the site. 2. Establish Rules – Set up rules for having the site. You are allowed to be a friend to their site, or you as the parent have their password and login. 3. Build a Relationship – Build a relationship with other adults, so that you have a community of people monitoring the vastness of cyberspace. Technology has its own risks and rewards, but when used and managed properly, rewards greatly exceed the risks. Yet, when technology is abused, the risk can be dangerous. As a parent, guardian or a caring adult, setting up rules on tech usage will greatly improve communication in the house, reduce unsolicited cyber requests and prevent the early desensitization of our youth. The first line of defense starts at home, and when parents are not actively participating in their child’s lives, they are basically allowing technology to take over. What steps are you taking to control technology in your household? Check out my blog and tell me how you handle technology. Check out the blog: whatsx.tumblr.com

pring in Florida is truly the best time of the year! The sun is out longer, the humidity is low and the breeze is just right. Along with this change in seasons also comes a change in the way you look. There is something wonderful about this time of year that makes you want to think better, feel better, and look better. I know some of you may be saying it feels like Spring in Florida all the time; and yes that is sometimes true, but when the season truly changes, you need to make a few changes with it, so let’s start with makeup! Bronze Skin, say goodbye to winter’s dry and dull skin and hello to the look of beautiful bronzed skin. If you want to erase the signs of dull and dehydrated skin, now is a great time to try a new skin exfoliator to remove dead layers that have built up during the winter months. Keeping your face and body exfoliated once a week allows for new layers of skin to rise to the surface, thus giving your skin a more radiant and youthful appearance and glow. *Want more Radiance and Glow? Apply Bronzer! Bronzer looks amazing on the skin. Apply all over the face after using a light, tinted moisturizer and you are guaranteed to have a flawless finish. Nails Watch, the next best thing about Spring is mani and pedi maintenance. Your hands and feet are on display, so making a visit to the nail salon is a MUST! The season’s hottest colors are just that, COLORS! Gone are the days of boring pink & white nails, put some color on those toes; and the brighter the better. Colors like orange, yellow, white, and turquoise are the best choices for this time of year. Want 36

a polish that really pops? Try matte finish nail colors. These types of nail polishes will look amazing! So step out of the pink and white box and open yourself up to a vibrant world of nail color! So I think you’ve got the picture pretty picture. So can I get you to change the way you feel about colored lipsticks and glosses? I know many of us have been made to believe that certain colors won’t look good on our skin tones, but I’m here to let you know that a pop of color will do you good! You may be saying, “I’ve tried it, and it didn’t look good on me.” Well, here is the #1 rule for trying a color lipstick: Choose a lipstick that has more of a satin finish; meaning, it is not glossy or frosty. It will be easier to blend into your lip, causing lips to appear smaller if you have full lips, and it will look less dramatic and more sophisticated. *Just not feeling lipstick, then gloss is a great alternative. It will be sheer, but it will still offer color to your lips…Until next month,

FLORIDA CIVIL RIGHTS ASSOCIATION TAKES ACTION ON TRAYVON MARTIN’S DEATH by J. Willie David, III

U

sing the George Zimmerman arrest as a starting point, the Florida Civil Rights Association is calling on the state to pull Zimmerman’s gun permit, and also re-open 68 cases in which people were charged with a violent crime, then successfully used Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law to gain an acquittal. Initially, the focus was on making sure the institutional injustice handed to the Martin family was rectified,” said Shayan Elahi, an attorney for the Florida Civil Rights Association. “Now the Florida Civil Rights Association is very concerned with the Stand Your Ground Law. The association held press conferences in March and April outside of the Florida Division of Licensing Orlando Regional Office in downtown Orlando. That building also houses the local office of Adam Putnam, Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, who oversees the licensing of gun permits. Florida law allows the state’s Agriculture Commissioner to pull a resident’s gun license if the office has been notified by local law enforcement that a permit holder is being charged with a felony. Otherwise, a resident would only lose their gun license if they get convicted of a felony.

Zimmerman was arrested on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 and charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, at the apartment complex in Sanford where Zimmerman was a watch commander. Zimmerman had claimed he acted in self defense, and was not initially charged with a crime. Martin’s family protested the lack of an arrest, and so did local, state and national civil rights leaders. That prompted Gov. Rick Scott to appoint a special investigator, State Attorney Angela Corey of Jacksonville, to take over the case. Scott also appointed a Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection to investigate how to ensure

that a similar tragedy doesn’t happen in the future, and part of their task will be to review the Stand Your Ground Law, which involves when the use of deadly force with an armed weapon is lawful. “Since this law was passed, 130 people were murdered, and in 130 of those cases, Stand Your Ground was used as a defense,” Elahi said. In 68 of those cases, the defendant was found not guilty, he said. “Stand Your Ground allowed them to get off scott-free,” he said. “We’re asking today that Commissioner Putnam look into those 68 cases where people got off scott-free. Those people are walking around now with concealed weapons permits.” J. Willie David III, the president of the Florida Civil Rights Association, said he hopes the state will use the tragic death of Trayvon Martin to make changes in the law, changes that make all Floridians safer. Vince Taylor, the Association’s vice chair of Community Outreach, said the wheels of justice started on Wednesday, when Zimmerman was finally arrested after nearly two months without being charged. “It’s sad that Trayvon is still dead, but it’s a good thing that his killer is no longer on the streets,” Taylor said. “The governor and the executive branch can act at any time to protect the citizens,” Elahi said. “Trayvon Martin’s tragedy has become symbolic of the lack of justice. As an attorney, I have used selfdefense in court before. But this Stand Your Ground Law was bought and paid for by the NRA (National Rifle Association).” If the law stays on the books and does not get challenged, he said, it means anyone could legally use gun violence to solve any confrontation – and not expect to face a criminal penalty for doing so. “That is the wild west,” Elahi said. “We are a J. Willie David, III civilized nation.” www .G ospel NOW. net

Recipe of the Month

Pomegranate Quinoa Spinach Salad Ingredients 4 cups of baby spinach leaves 1/4 cup of quinoa 1/2 cup of sliced almonds 1 pomegranate 1/8 cup of feta cheese 1/4 cut chopped red onion dressing 4 tsp honey 1 tsp dijon mustard 1 tbsp white wine vinegar 3 tbsp olive oil salt and pepper to taste

Direction 1. Add 1/2 cup of water, a pinch of salt and quinoa to a medium pan with a lid, and bring it to a boil. Once the water has boiled, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the pan on the stove for a couple of minutes. A few minutes later fluff the quinoa with a fork. Pre-heat the oven to 350ยบF and roast the sliced almonds for a few minutes until they turn brown. Once they start turning brown, keep an eye on them as too much heat may burn them easily. Seed the pomegranate. Pour all the dressing ingredients into a jar and close it with a lid. Shake the jar to mix everything. To assemble the salad, toss the spinach and the quinoa in a couple of tablespoons of dressing and top with crumbled feta, onions, pomegranate and toasted almonds. Serve immediately else the spinach will welt. 43
