Nowadays around the world we are amazed by the technological advances that set a new direction of our lives everyday. Golf has been no exception, as we constantly notice an evolution in equipment, clothing, accessories, and what about the new fields that are being built with the help of high technology; these being more harmonious with the environment, with the new generation of fertilizers and agrochemicals. In the Asociación de Campos de Golf del Caribe Mexicano (Golf Association of the Caribbean) we are working to stay ahead and be able to offer the services of the highest quality you require. In addition to this, we have taken on the task of promoting golf through the new generations. Nowadays the Mexican Caribbean is home to tournaments such as the Nacional Infantil y Juvenil of the FMG, the AGJA, the “Golf Para Todos” (Golf For All), among other programs, being our purpose that these new values take part of their education, overcoming what new technologies had been unable to change about golf; meaning their rules which, as you know, are mostly etiquette. We consider it essential to child and youth development that the basics of golf, such as honesty, integrity and respect, are the primary basis for the education of our children, since these will remain a lifetime.

CANCUN GOLF CLUB AT POK-TA-POK
EL PRIMER CAMPO DE GOLF EN CANCUN Cancun Golf Club at Pok ta Pok abre sus puertas en 1976 con un diseño original de Robert Trent Jones II. El campo es rico en historia ya que además de ser el primer campo de golf en este destino, posee una herencia Maya ya que el terreno que rodea al club alberga tesoros arqueológicos de esta antigua cultura (hoyo 3) además que su nombre Maya (Pok ta Pok) significa “golpe tras golpe”. El campo fue construido dentro de un magnifico terreno ubicado en el corazón de la Zona Hotelera y rodeado por laguna y mar. El diseño ofrece una cara amigable a los jugadores de hándicap alto al contar con fairways amplios y bondadosos al mismo tiempo que presenta un reto a los jugadores de hándicap bajo al haber sido recientemente ampliada su longitud a 7,051 yardas sin embargo el mejor atributo del campo son sus maravillosas vistas. El campo cuenta con 5 hoyos que bordean la laguna Nichupte donde se pueden apreciar atardeceres inolvidables además de dos espectaculares hoyos frente al Mar Caribe pudiendo apreciar desde el green la paradisiaca Isla Mujeres en todo su esplendor. Historia, tradición y deporte se juntan este año ya que 2010 marca el aniversario número 34 del este icono de Golf en el destino a celebrarse el 19,20 y 21 de Noviembre mediante un gran torneo con valiosos premios.

CANCUN’S FIRST GOLF COURSE Cancun Golf Club at Pok ta Pok first opens its doors in 1976 with an original design by Robert Trent Jones II. The course is rich in Mayan history its name means “Stroke by stroke” and it borrows it from the prehispanic ball game also, apart from being the first golf course in the destination, archaeological treasures can be found at each side of the green on Hole #3 The course was built in a magnificent piece of terrain located in the heart of the Hotel Zone and surrounded by lagoon and sea. The design offers a friendly face to high handicap golfers as the fairways are ample and forgiving while it provides a fun challenge to golfers of low handicap since its length has been recently increased to 7,051 yards although the best feature of the club are its wonderful views. The course has 5 holes that border the Nichupte Lagoon where unforgettable sunsets can be witnessed as well as 2 spectacular holes in front of the Caribbean Sea from where the paradisiacal Isla Mujeres can be seen when standing on the green. History, tradition and sport come in play this year as 2010 marks the 34th anniversary of this Golf icon which will be celebrated with a tournament held this November 19, 20 and 21st

CAMALEÓN GOLF CLUB MAYAKOBA
El club de golf El Camaleón, en Mayakoba, surge como la más reciente obra maestra de Greg Norman y es administrado por Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. El diseño de sus 7,024 yardas es único, no sólo en México sino en el todo el reino del golf. Se extiende a través tres horizontes distintos: selva tropical, densos manglares y áreas arenosas a la orilla del mar; los hoyos se encuentran separados por enormes canales de piedra caliza. Incorpora, además, un cenote –una enorme y antigua caverna típica de la región– justo en el corazón del fairway inicial. Y como en todos los proyectos de Norman, ha logrado un equilibrio en el campo de manera que sea agradable para los golfistas de todos los niveles. De extremo a extremo, El Camaleón es una prueba de grandes ligas: una verdadera mordida del Tiburón Norman. Sin embargo, en cada hoyo se dispersan un mínimo de cinco tees, por lo que hay una distancia para cada jugador. El campo es excepcional, pero no se quedan atrás las demás instalaciones dedicadas al golf. La hermosa Casa Club, con influencia maya, domina al green 18; y tanto el área de entrenamiento como el driving range son de primera categoría. Más increíble aun es el singular sistema de canales de este centro turístico; los jugadores pueden salir de su habitación para subirse a una embarcación que los conducirá ¡hasta el primer punto de salida! También cuenta con instrucción profesional de golf de la escuela de Jim McLean, ofreciendo lecciones individuales o grupales, conocida como la escuela número uno en América. Todos los carros están equipados con el sistema interactivo de Uplink GPS, que brinda a los jugadores información detallada del campo así como de las yardas recorridas, más la posibilidad de llevar el registro de su puntuación y solicitar alimentos en el campo. Golf Club Camaleón at Mayakoba resort emerges as the latest masterpiece from Greg Norman and managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. The 7,024-yard layout is unique, not only in Mexico but to the entire kingdom of golf. It extends through three distinct landscapes: tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and sandy areas at oceanfront; the golf-course holes are separated by massive limestone canals. It also incorporates a cenote —a huge and ancient cavern typical of the region— just in the heart of the opening fairway. And as in all Norman projects, he has balanced the course to make it enjoyable for golfers of all abilities. From the tips, Camaleón is a major league test, a real Shark bite. However, each hole is sprinkled with a minimum of five tee blocks, so there is a distance for every player. While the course is exceptional, the surrounding golf amenities are equally as stunning. The beautiful Mayan-influence clubhouse rises above the 18th green; and both the adjoining practice facility as the driving range are first class. Even more amazingly, with the resort’s unique canal system golfers will be able to step out of their rooms and get into a boat, which will ferry them to the first tee. Professional golf instruction is also available at Camaleon’s Jim Mclean Golf School. The Jim McLean Golf School offers individual and groups lessons and is known as the number one Golf School in America. All carts are equipped with the interactive Uplink GPS system, providing golfers with detailed course and yardage information, plus the ability to keep score and place food orders on-course. Therefore, Camaleon hosts the Mayakoba Golf Classic each year, being the only course outside of Canada and U.S.A. to host an annual PGA tour event.

The case, protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal 2.6mm thick, has a classic black sandwich dial that ensures excellent visibility in any situation. Instead of the classic stick hour markers, eight tiny arabic numerals have been cut out of the plate, while the classic large arabic numerals are displayed at 12, 6 & 9 o’clock. The luminescent substance that covers the hour and minute hands, small seconds hand, date and writing, has the same ecru color of the Panerai military models from the 1940s, which was the result of natural aging of the phosphorescent paste used at that time. The Moon Spa & Golf Club is home to one of two Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf courses in this area and is located in the path of the Cancun-Riviera Maya landscape. Its dynamic layout requires golfers to navigate through native vegetation as well as numerous mangroves and strategically placed bunkers. It is perhaps here, in the executive golf course at El Manglar Vidanta Golf Riviera Maya that Jack Nicklaus developed the world´s foremost golf course, in which his design firm achieves to project the creative, revolutionary, and cutting edge stamp, that distinguished it. With 18 Holes – Par 54 in an area of 2,923 yards long filled with radiant white sand traps, dark tones of natural stone lining pristine lakes, deep lush hue of the greens, and waste bunkers, this course is a garden of delights for golf lovers. The Silent Evolution is a monumental underwater sculptural installation located in the transparent waters of the Mexican Caribbean. Over 400 permanent life-sized sculptures will form a complex reef structure for marine life to colonise and inhabit, alleviating pressure on existing natural reefs. The sculptures are located in The National Marine Park of Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc. 300 of the figures are being installed in August 2010, with the remainder scheduled for November 2010. Once completed, the work will become one of the largest and most ambitious underwater artificial attractions in the world, occupying an area of over 420 sq metres and with a total weight of over 180 tonnes.
La Evolución Silenciosa es una monumental creación escultórica bajo el agua ubicada en las transparentes aguas del Caribe Mexicano. Más de 400 esculturas permanentes de tamaño natural formarán la estructura del complejo arrecife para la vida marina para colonizar y habitar, aliviando la presión sobre los arrecifes naturales existentes. Las esculturas se encuentran en el Parque Nacional Marino de Cancún, Isla Mujeres y Punta Nizuc. 300 de las figuras fueron instaladas en agosto de 2010, y el resto previsto para noviembre de 2010. Una vez finalizado, el trabajo se convertirá en uno de las mayores y más ambiciosas atracciones submarinas artificiales en el mundo, ocupando un área de más de 420 metros cuadrados y con un peso total de más de 180 toneladas.
Casts for The Silent Evolution were taken from a broad crosssection of society, predominantly Mexican, and from all walks of life. Sculptures range from Rosario, an 85-year old nun, to Santiago, a 3-year boy, with various occupations represented from around the globe, including an accountant, yoga instructor, fisherman, student, acrobat, carpenter and park ranger. The installation portrays a gathering of people, illustrating how we are all facing serious questions concerning our environment and our impact on the natural world. The work is optimistic and forward looking, expressing hope that there will be unity in dealing with this problem. The sculptures will be changed in their appearance over time, as coral grows and marine life establishes itself. Aesthetic control is relinquished to nature in stark physical manifestation of the intellectual message behind the work. The Silent Evolution is physical and imposing, drawing attention by its magnitude, its scope, its uniqueness and the pure magic of its location in the Caribbean Sea. It also embraces the visitor: the snorkeler and scuba diver can join this underwater realm and experience the work from a new dimension, surrounded by the source of our planet’s life, the sea. For those who cannot, or prefer not to, enter the water, voyages in glass-bottomed boats will transport visitors to view the sculptures from above. The Silent Evolution is interactive so people can swim around the sculptures, over the sculptures, explore and observe them. The location of the sculptures off the shores of Cancun is strategic. Well renowned for its endless facilities and lively atmosphere, as a relatively new city, Cancun is not known for its cultural

Las esculturas van desde Rosario, una monja de 85 años, Santiago, un niño de 3 años, con ocupaciones representadas de todo el mundo, incluyendo un contador, instructor de yoga, pescador, estudiante, acróbata, carpintero y guardaparques. Una imagen “estética” renuncia a la naturaleza en la manifestación física del mensaje intelectual detrás de la obra. La Evolución Silenciosa es física e imponente, llamando la atención por su magnitud, su alcance, su singularidad y la magia pura de su ubicación en el Mar Caribe. También invita al visitante: el buzo y el que practica snorkel pueden unirse a este reino bajo el agua y experimentar el trabajo desde una nueva dimensión, rodeado por la fuente de la vida de nuestro planeta, el mar. Para aquellos que no pueden o prefieren no entrar en el agua, los viajes en barcos con fondo de vidrio transportarán a los visitantes para ver las esculturas desde arriba. La Evolución Silenciosa es interactiva para que la gente pueda nadar alrededor de las esculturas, sobre las esculturas, explorarlas y observarlas. Working alongside creator Jason deCaires Taylor is a team of artists, builders, marine biologists, engineers and scuba divers to complete the various parts of the installation.

Poseedora de una de las nuevas “siete maravillas del mundo”: el Templo de Kukulcán, en la zona arqueológica de Chichén Itzá aguarda para que descubras en sus magníficos templos y edificios, todos los misterios de la cultura maya. Chichén Itzá es una imponente zona arqueológica, que se localiza en el estado de Yucatán, a 121 kilómetros al oriente de la ciudad de Mérida. De esta obra destaca, además de su belleza arquitectónica, su ubicación establecida matemáticamente para registrar la llegada de la primavera y el otoño, que se plasman en un espectáculo natural de luz y sombra. En esta antigua capital maya, los visitantes podrán admirar – en un radio de aproximadamente 6 kilómetros cuadrados-, numerosos templos y edificios, que fusionan el estilo tolteca, procedente del centro de México, con los estilos propios de la región, como: “El Castillo” o “Templo de Kukulcán”, con su espectacular estructura de nueve pisos, y en la que cada 21 de marzo, durante el equinoccio de primavera, se puede apreciar en su escalinata norte, el fantástico “descenso” del dios “Serpiente emplumada”; y la cancha del Juego de pelota, la más grande descubierta hasta ahorita en territorio mesoamericano; así como la curiosa construcción de forma cilíndrica conocida como “El Caracol” o “El observatorio”, donde los antiguos sacerdotes mayas, pasaban noches enteras estudiando y registrando el movimiento de los astros, lo que les permitía conocer el designio de los dioses y desarrollar el control y computo del tiempo. Desde el 29 de marzo de 2010, el sitio arqueológico de Chichén Itzá es propiedad federal del estado de Yucatán y es administrado por el Patronato Cultur. Con dicha compra, de 83 hectáreas, se inicia el macroproyecto denominado Central Park Chichén 2020 en donde se planea construir 12 hoteles de cinco estrellas, un centro de convenciones, parques acuáticos, lagos artificiales, un campo de golf y centros comerciales.

Possessing one of the new “seven wonders of the world: the Temple of Kukulcan, in the archaeological zone of Chichen Itza awaits for you to discover its magnificent temples and buildings, all the mysteries of Mayan culture. Chichen Itza is an impressive archaeological site, located in the state of Yucatan, 121 kilometers east of Merida. This work stresses, its architectural beauty, its location established mathematically to record the arrival of spring and autumn, which is reflected in a natural spectacle of light and shadow. In this ancient Maya capital, visitors can admire - in a radius of approximately six square kilometers-, many churches and buildings that blend style Toltecs from central Mexico, with the styles of the region, such as “The Castle” or “Temple of Kukulcan”, with its spectacular structure of nine floors, and in which each March 21 during the spring equinox, you can see in its northern stairway, the great “descent” of God “Feathered Serpent”; and the pitch of the game of ball, the largest until now discovered in Mesoamerica, as well as the curious cylindrical building known as “El Caracol” or “The Observatory”, where ancient Mayan priests, spent whole nights studying and recording the movement of the stars, allowing them to know the design of the gods and developing control and computation time. Since March 29, 2010, the archaeological site of Chichen Itza is federal property of the state of Yucatan and is administered by the Patronato Cultur. With that purchase, 83 hectares, begins the macro project called Central Park Chichén 2020 where it plans to build 12 fivestar hotels, a convention center, water parks, artificial lakes, a golf course and shopping malls.

Launder clothes. I can hear you saying “No way!” If you are planning a 2 week or longer vacation, I would recommend laundering clothes instead of packing more items. So you will keep your luggage free for shopping. 4. Wear the clothes you buy on vacation. There is no need to “save” them until you return home. Plus, when you get home and wear the sundress, it will bring back pleasant memories of your vacation. 5. Don’t bring work clothes on a vacation. When you open your suitcase and see the trousers you wear every Thursday to work, you will not feel excited. Part of the fun of traveling is wearing new and different clothes, so try not to pack anything that will remind you of the daily grind. 6. Tailor your clothes for a custom fit. If you love the dress but the neckline is gaping, don’t waste 4 more hours shopping for a perfect fit; bring the item to a tailor and get the shoulders taken up. The clothing is transformed from off-the-rack to custom fit. 7. Pack only 3 pairs of shoes. Two casual pairs and one dressy. Shoes take up a lot of room and are very heavy. Wear one pair and pack the other 2 pairs. 8. Wear and ditch old clothing. If you don’t want your clothes to go to waste, try and drop them into a charitable donation bin.

Si te gusta el vestido, pero el escote es enorme, no pierdas tantas horas de compras para un ajuste perfecto; lleva la prenda a un sastre. 7. Empaca sólo 3 pares de zapatos. Dos pares casuales y uno de vestir. Los zapatos ocupan mucho espacio y son muy pesados. Usa un par y el empaca de los otros 2 pares. 8. Usa y dona ropa que ya no quieras. Si no quieres que tu ropa se vaya a la basura, úsala y colócalos en una bandeja de donación de caridad en tu viaje.
