The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup H

επιτυχία που είχε το τουρνουά "Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup" το 2013 οδήγησε τους διοργανωτές να το επεκτείνουν το 2014 σε 35 διαφορετικές χώρες, και να διοργανώσουν 50 προκριματικούς γύρους. Έτσι φέτος η Turkish Airlines κάλεσε 2500 χιλιάδες ερασιτέχνες γκόλφερς να παίξουν σε μερικά από τα καλύτερα γήπεδα του κόσμου. Ο αγώνας είναι stableford και οι παίκτες θα αγωνιστούν σε δύο κατηγορίες. Ο νικητής κάθε κατηγορίας θα αποκτήσει δικαίωμα συμμετοχής στο Grand Finals που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Belek της Τουρκίας στο διάστημα από 9-16 Νοεμβρίου. Οι

After the success of the inaugural event in 2013, the 2014 series has expanded to 50 qualifying events taking place in 35 different countries. The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateur Series is back, bigger and better than ever before. This year 2,500 players will take part in 50 qualifying events, spanning 35 different countries worldwide. Players are invited as guests of Turkish Airlines to play some of the best golf courses in the world. From New York to Kuala Lumpur and from Paris to Tokyo, this year’s series is set to be the best yet. The format of play is individual stroke play and players will be split into two categories based on their handicaps. This series will also feature Nearest the Pin competitions with separate prizes for men and ladies. ίναι μόλις τριών ετών, αλλά ο μικρός Τόμι παραδίδει μαθήματα θέλησης και προσπάθειας παίζοντας γκολφ με... ένα μόνο χέρι! Ο Τόμι Μόρισον ζει στο Νιου Τζέρσεϊ των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών. Από ένα γενετικό πρόβλημα ήρθε στη ζωή με ένα μόνο χέρι! Στη θέση του, οι περισσότεροι ίσως και να είχαν υποταχθεί στη μοίρα, αλλά ο Τόμι είναι διαφορετικός και με την ενθάρρυνση των γονιών του, αποδεικνύει ότι στη ζωή μπορείς να πετύχεις τα πάντα, αρκεί να βρεις τον τρόπο! Οι γονείς του Τόμι είναι γκολφερς και το «μικρόβιο» μπήκε στο γιο τους, από πολύ μικρή ηλικία. Δεκατριών μηνών άρχισε να βλέπει το συγκεκριμένο άθλημα στην τηλεόραση και όταν έφτασε τους 18 μήνες, προχώρησε σε μιμήσεις των κινήσεων που κάνουν οι κορυφαίοι γκόλφερ. Θα έλεγα πως είμαι ο παίκτης με τις περισσότερες εμπειρίες στο αγωνιστικό κομμάτι λόγω της δουλειάς που είχα στην Ελβετία, αλλά και των συμμετοχών που είχα τα τελευταία χρόνια στο EPD Tour και το Alps Tour. Αγωνιστικά ασχολήθηκα από το 2010 μέχρι το 2013, αλλά καθ’ όλη την διάρκεια της δεκαετούς παραμονής μου στην Ελβετία συμμετείχα σε τουλάχιστον 3-4 τουρνουά ετησίως με αρκετές διακρίσεις.Το 2009 θέλοντας να δοκιμάσω τις δυνατοτητές μου σαν παίχτης προκρίθηκα 6ος στο qualifying school του Alps tour στην Ιταλία.Το 2010 πήρα μέρος σχεδόν σε όλα τα τουρνουα .Από το 2011 εώς και σήμερα στήριξε την προσπάθεια μου ο φίλος και φανατικός λάτρης του αθλήματος Νικόλας Μαρτίνος μέσω της εταιρίας του «THENA MARIS». Για το Ελληνικό γκολφ... Σημαντική είναι οι συμβολή των αγώνων Pro-Am που οργανώνουμε τα τελευταία χρόνια, του Aegean Prο-Am αλλά και η δραστηριότητα των Ομί-

λων και φυσικά της Ελληνικής Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ. Θα έλεγα πως τα τελευταία χρόνια έχουμε επίσης περισσότερες συμμετοχές σε αγώνες τόσο σε επαγγελματικό αλλά και ερασιτεχνικό επίπεδο αλλά και σε αγώνες Pro-Am στο εξωτερικό. Όλα αυτά συντελούν στο να διαμορφώνεται μια ελληνική φυσιογνωμία και ελληνική κουλτούρα στο χώρο του γκολφ. Για το Greek PGA Η ουσιαστική αναβάθμιση του προφίλ του έλληνα επαγγελματία θα πρέπει να περάσει μέσα από το PGA Qualifying των μελών μας μέσω των PGA που έχουν αναγνωρισμένο προπονητικό πρόγραμμα και ένας από τους βασικούς λόγους της τροποποίησης του καταστατικού μας είναι και αυτός. Ενθαρρύνουμε τα νεοεισερχόμενα μέλη να περάσουν μέσα απ’ αυτή τη διαδικασία, η οποία έχει διάρκεια 3 έτη που σημαίνει πως θα τους ωριμάσει γκολφικά, αλλά και θα έχουν όλα τα “πιστοποιητικά” προκειμένου να δουλέψουν οπουδήποτε! because of the job I had in Switzerland and playing on the EPD Tour and Alps Tour in recent years. I competed from 2010 to 2012, but also participated in 3-4 tournaments annually during my ten-year stay in Switzerland, winning several awards. In 2009 I wanted to try my hand as a player and placed 6th in the qualifying school of the Alps Tour in Italy. In 2010, I participated in almost all tournaments. From 2011 to the present day, my friend and avid golf fan Nicolas Martinos has supported my efforts, sponsoring me through his company, THENA MARIS. Greek Golf Development The contributions of the Pro-Am tournaments organised in recent years, the Aegean Pro-Am and the activities of the Clubs and the Hellenic Golf Federation have been very significant. Courses such as those in Costa Navarino have played an important role in the development and quality of our players. I would say that in recent years we have entered more players in competitions, on both a professional and amateur level, and in more Pro-Am tournaments abroad. All these factors have contributed to creating a Greek character and Greek culture in the world of golf. About Greek PGA We also believe that upgrading the profile of Greek professional players should be effected through the PGA Qualifying of our members through the PGAs that offer recognized training programs, and this is one of the main reasons for amending our statute. We encourage newcomers to go through this 3-year process, to ensure their golf game matures and they will have the “qualifications” to work anywhere! Sponsoring Donor involvement is very important, although golf on an international level has changed significantly in recent years, mainly due to sponsors. The same applies to the Greek PGA, which now has an increased presence in Greece and Europe thanks to the sponsorship of AEGEAN AIRLINES and the support of Mr Vasilakis.

ιατί γίνατε αρχιτέκτονας και όχι κάτι άλλο στη ζωή σας; «Η αρχιτεκτονική ήταν όπως και σήμερα μία συνειδητή επιλογή, μονόδρομος θα έλεγα, την εποχή που τους νέους απασχολούσαν προβλήματα επαγγελματικού προσανατολισμού. Τα κριτήρια ήταν η φυσική κλίση προς τις τέχνες γενικά και δευτερευόντως η γνώση για τις ανάγκες που η αρχιτεκτονική απαιτούσε». Πιστεύετε στην έμπνευση; «Για την αρχιτεκτονική η έμπνευση είναι τα βασικό εργαλείο της δουλειάς, που πρέπει όμως να ακολουθείται από σκληρή δουλειά». Όταν ξεκινήσατε να φτιάχνεται τα ξενοδοχεία στην Ελούντα, τι σας βασάνισε περισσότερο; «Για τα έργα μου στην Ελούντα ο πρωταρχικός στόχος ήταν η προσαρμογή στο περιβάλλον και η ικανοποίηση σύμφωνα με τα προσωπικά κριτήρια των πελατών-καλεσμένων. Η Ελούντα ύστερα από 50 σχεδόν χρόνια είναι ο τόπος που αισθάνομαι προσωπικά ταυτισμένος με έναν συγκεκριμένο τρόπο ζωής». Έχετε τη διπλή ιδιότητα: του επιχειρηματία και του αρχιτέκτονα. Υπήρξε κάποια στιγμή που ο επιχειρηματίας συγκρούστηκε με τον αρχιτέκτονα; «Στη διαδρομή των έργων που υπήρξα επιχειρηματίας κι αρχιτέκτονας δεν θυμάμαι ποτέ ο επιχειρηματίας να επέβαλε όρους στον αρχιτέκτονα. Ο αρχιτέκτονας αναμφισβήτητα θεωρεί τον εαυτό του υπεύθυνο για τα έργα του και σε κάποια κρίσιμη καμπή της επιχειρηματικής μου καριέρας ο αρχιτέκτονας απεχώρησε, με προφανές οικονομικό κόστος, όταν ο επιχειρηματίας επέβαλε την άποψή του». Ποια είναι η επιχειρηματική φιλοσοφία της ELOUNDA S.A.; Πραγματοποιήσατε αυτό που είχατε στο μυαλό σας ή κάποια στιγμή το ίδιο το έργο σας άλλαξε το master plan; «Η φιλοσοφία της εταιρείας είναι πρωταρχικά η ικανοποίηση των καλεσμένων χωρίς παραχωρήσεις λειτουργικές, αισθητικές, ή οικονομικές. Ποτέ στην Ελούντα δεν υπήρξε αυτό που λέμε master plan, αφού ποτέ δεν υπήρξε συγκεκριμένο γήπεδο ή συγκεκριμένος προϋπολογισμός. Η κάθε επένδυση κολλούσε στην προηγούμενη με βάση αρχιτεκτονικές ιδέες στο πίσω μέρος του μυαλού μου». Πως αντιμετωπίζετε τις νέες προκλήσεις της εποχής; «Η εποχή μας συγκριτικά με τις δεκαετίες του 70 και 80 είναι μια εποχή έντονου ανταγωνισμού που κάθε νέα ιδέα

αντιγράφεται από τον ανταγωνισμό διεθνώς πλέον σε χρόνο μηδέν». Πως πρέπει στρατηγικά να βελτιώσει η Ελλάδα ως προορισμός πολυτελείας την ανταγωνιστικότητά της; «Η χώρα μας θα πρέπει να επικεντρωθεί σχολαστικά και συστηματικά στον ακριβό τουρισμό, είναι κάτι που υπαγορεύεται από το μέγεθος του τόπου και τη δυνατότητα αφομοίωσης από τους Έλληνες χωρίς εμφανή αλλοίωση της εικόνας συνολικά, η ευαισθησία του τοπίου και φυσικά η παροχή υπηρεσιών ανάλογου επιπέδου». Το γκολφ πώς εμφανίστηκε στη ζωή σας; «Η ιδέα λειτουργίας γκολφ στην Κρήτη στην αρχή της δεκαετίας του ‘90 ήταν ιδέα ενός

To νομοθετικό πλαίσιο διευκολύνει επενδύσεις αυτού του είδους; «Το σημερινό νομοθετικό πλαίσιο ύστερα από 25 χρόνια προσπαθειών νομίζω πως βοηθά επιτέλους την ανάπτυξη του γκολφ στην Ελλάδα, όμως οι ανταγωνίστριες χώρες μάς έχουν αφήσει κατά πολύ πίσω. Ακράδαντα πιστεύω πως υπάρχει ακόμη προοπτική για την ανάπτυξη του γκολφ στον νότο της χώρας, ανάπτυξη που επεκτείνει την τουριστική περίοδο των 7 μηνών σε 12 μήνες λειτουργίας, προσοδοφόρων για τις επιχειρήσεις και για την Ελλάδα».

hy did you become an architect? Architecture was and still is a conscious choice, a one-way street I’d say, at a

time when young people experience career guidance issues. I had a natural inclination towards the arts in general and secondly, a knowledge of the demands of architecture. Do you believe in inspiration? Inspiration is a fundamental component of architecture, which must always be accompanied by hard work. What were your primary concerns when you began building hotels in Elounda? My primary objective for projects in Elounda was to adapt to the environment and to satisfy the criteria of both clients and guests. After almost 50 years, Elounda is the place where I personally identify most with a particular lifestyle. You play a double role: entrepreneur and architect. Has the businessman ever been in conflict with the architect? I can’t say that I recall the entrepreneur imposing conditions on the architect on any projects where I played both parts. The architect undoubtedly considers himself responsible for his projects and there have been critical junctures in my entrepreneurial career when the architect retired, with obvious financial costs, when the businessman imposed his view. What is the business philosophy of ELOUNDA S.A.? Have you brought your plans to fruition or did the project itself change the master plan? The company’s primary philosophy is to ensure guest satisfaction without making functional, aesthetic, or economic concessions. We have never had a “master plan” at Elounda, as there was never a specific playing field or budget. Each investment was based on earlier ones and I always had architectural ideas at the back of my mind. How do you handle the new challenges of our time? When compared to the 70s and 80s, the present is a time of intense competition, when every new idea is copied by international competition at the speed of light. How should Greece make strategic improvements to move forward as a competitive luxury destination? Our country should systematically and thoroughly focus on expensive tourism, which must be dictated by the scope of the land and the assimilation of the Greeks without obvious deterioration of the overall picture, the sensitivity of the landscape, and of course, to provide an appropriate level of service. How did golf become a part of your life? The idea of operating golf courses on Crete in the early 90s came from a French businessman and British architect who came to me for help. Does the current legal framework

facilitate such investments? After 25 years of continual effort, I believe that the current legal framework is finally facilitating the development of golf in Greece, but other countries have left us in the dust. I firmly believe that there is still potential to develop golf in the southern regions of our country, development that will extend the tourist season from 7 to 12 months, profitable both for businesses and Greece itself.

Και τι είναι το ένστικτο; «Αυτό που κάνει το μυαλό από μόνο του, χωρίς να σε ρωτάει για τη γνώμη σου». Έχετε εμμονές; «Λίγες, περισσότερες προσμονές, θα έλεγα. Η εμμονή μου με τον ορθό λόγο θα θεωρούνταν μάλλον συνηθισμέ-

νη αν η Ελλάδα μας δεν ήταν τόσο παράλογη». Κάθε φορά που βρίσκεσθε μπροστά σε ένα καινούργιο σχέδιο τι σας απασχολεί πρωτίστως; «Αν μιλάμε για κατασκευαστικό σχέδιο, τότε κοιτάω πρωτίστως τη λειτουργικότητα. Αν πρόκειται για επιχειρηματικό σχέδιο, την απλότητα». Τι σημαίνει η Ελούντα για εσάς; «Στην Ελούντα βρέθηκα νεογέννητο μωρό και πέρασα τα πρώτα μου χρόνια. Ήταν ο τόπος εργασίας των γονέων μου, όπου τους επισκεπτόμασταν οποτεδήποτε μπορούσαμε. Είναι επίσης ο τόπος που διάλεξα ως μόνιμη κατοικία μου, μόλις μου δόθηκε η δυνατότητα να κάνω τέτοια επιλογή». Πότε αρχίσατε να ασχολείστε με την οικογενειακή επιχείρηση; «Από τότε που θυμάμαι τον εαυτό μου». Υπάρχει κάτι που σας προβλημάτισε ή σας έκανε να αναρωτηθείτε για τυχόν δυσκολίες που αντιμετώπισε ο πατέρας σας; «Θυμάμαι πάντοτε τον πατέρα μου να προβληματίζεται για την ανάπτυξη των σχεδίων του, να παλεύει για να τα πραγματώσει, να βρίσκεται συνεχώς μπροστά σε δυσκολίες, ώστε τελικά να θεωρήσω πως μάλλον δεν υπάρχει εύκολος τρόπος». Έχει αλλάξει η επιχειρηματική φιλοσοφία της ELOUNDA S.A. στη πάροδο των

χρόνων; «Η διαδικασία αλλαγής σε οικογενειακές επιχειρήσεις είναι διαφορετική από τις αμιγώς εταιρικές επιχειρήσεις: οι αλλαγές στην επιχειρηματική φιλοσοφία είναι αργές και μικρές, σχεδόν ανεπαίσθητες». Τι αλλαγές στον τρόπο λειτουργίας των ξενοδοχείων σας έχει επιφέρει η παγκόσμια οικονομική κρίση; «Μας επηρέασε η ελληνική οικονομική και κοινωνική παρακμή περισσότερο, καθώς ο παγκόσμιος τουρισμός βαίνει σταθερά αυξανόμενος, δεδομένου ότι η παγκόσμια οικονομία έχει νέους μεγάλους παίκτες που επωφελήθηκαν της στιγμιαίας αδυναμίας των ΗΠΑ και της Ευρώπης. Η βασική αλλαγή στη λειτουργία μας, στην κορύφωση της ελληνικής κρίσης, ήταν η απόφαση να σταματήσουμε τη χειμερινή μας λειτουργία μετά από 14 συναπτές χρονιές». Ο τουρισμός πολυτελείας αποτελεί τον πλέον αναπτυσσόμενο τομέα της παγκόσμιας τουριστικής βιομηχανίας, έχοντας το πλεονέκτημα να επηρεάζεται ελάχιστα από τις αρνητικές συγκυρίες στην οικονομία. H χώρα μας κατά τη γνώμη σας έχει εξαντλήσει τις δυνατότητές της σε αυτό τον τομέα; «Η Ελλάδα είναι μάλλον υπανάπτυκτη τουριστικά χώρα! Κάποιοι προορισμοί μας, όπως η Κρήτη και η Ρόδος για παράδειγμα, έχουν

υπερπροσφορά σε χαμηλού επιπέδου προϊόν, αλλά σε γενικές γραμμές η χώρα έχει τεράστιο ανεκμετάλλευτο δυναμικό. Δεν είναι μόνον ο τουρισμός πολυτελείας που δεν προσφέρουμε επαρκώς, αλλά σχεδόν κάθε άλλο είδος πέραν του μαζικού θερινού “ήλιος-άμμος-θάλασσα”. Ιδιαιτέρως ο ναυτικός μας τουρισμός είναι απελπιστικά πίσω». Η Ελούντα μέσα από τις εγκαταστάσεις σας είναι γνωστή διεθνώς ως προορισμός πολυτελείας. Η Ελλάδα θεωρείται προορισμός πολυτελείας; «Η Ελλάδα είναι προορισμός για τα πάντα, αλλά δεν τα εκμεταλλεύεται όλα. Δε χρειάζεται να λειτουργεί με όρους αποκλειστικότητας, αλλά με όρους παγκοσμιότητας». Οι μελέτες δείχνουν πως η μισή μας ανάπτυξη την επόμενη δεκαετία θα προέλθει από τον Τουρισμό. Με ποιο τρόπο πρέπει στρατηγικά να βελτιώσουμε την ανταγωνιστικότητά μας; «Ο Σύνδεσμος Ελληνικών Τουριστικών Επιχειρήσεων (ΣΕΤΕ), στο διοικητικό συμβούλιο του οποίου εξελέγην φέτος, έχει εκπονήσει ενδελεχείς μελέτες για τη βελτίωση της ανταγωνιστικότητάς μας, τόσο σε επίπεδο υποδομών, όσο και επίπεδο ανθρώπινου δυναμικού, εκπαίδευσης, αλλά και θεσμικού και φορολογικού πλαισίου. Είναι πάρα πολλά αυτά που πρέπει να κάνουμε και πρέπει να τα κάνουμε όλα». Πολιτικά και φιλοσοφικά πού θα τοποθετούσατε τον εαυτό σας; «Είμαι ένας προοδευτικός κεντρώος, ένας φιλελεύθερος δημοκράτης, μεταρρυθμιστής και πραγματιστής». Γιατί οι ιδέες είναι πάντα ηττημένες; «Οι ιδέες ηττώνται όταν οι φορείς τους αποτυγχάνουν. Στη δημοκρατία, οι φορείς εξαρτώνται από τους ψηφοφόρους. Εν τέλει, εκείνοι είναι που αποτυγχάνουν και είναι και οι ουσιαστικώς υπόλογοι για την αποτυχία». Υπήρξαν στιγμές στη ζωή σας που πήγατε κόντρα στο ρεύμα; «Εξ’ ορισμού, ένας προοδευτικός και μεταρρυθμιστής παλεύει για να αλλάξει τα κακώς κείμενα. Δεν υπάρχει τίποτα πιο εύκολο από τον συντηρητισμό, αφού καλείσαι να μην αλλάξεις τίποτα από αυτά που έχεις συνηθίσει». Τον όρο «αισθητική» πώς τον αντιλαμβάνεστε; Τι είναι για εσάς αισθητική; «Προτιμώ να σκέφτομαι σε όρους οργάνωσης και σχεδιασμού, παρά σε όρους καλαισθησίας. Επομένως, η δική μου αισθητική είναι αλληλένδετη με την λειτουργικότητα». Το ενδιαφέρον της ζωής βρίσκεται στο να ξεπερνάμε τα όρια ή στο να τα πλησιάζουμε; «Τα όρια τίθενται σε κάθε τομέα ως οδηγός για τους πολλούς, για εκείνους που δε νιώθουν την ανάγκη να πειραματισθούν ξεπερνώντας τα. Αν δε σε ενδιαφέρει ένας τομέας

δραστηριότητας, τα όρια σου δίνουν την αίσθηση ασφαλείας που χρειάζεσαι για να πορευτείς εν ειρήνη. Αν όμως κάτι σε παθιάζει, τότε τα όρια θα τα ξεπεράσεις». Καινούργιο είναι ό,τι αλλάζει τα όρια; «Δεν υπάρχουν όρια στο καινοφανές». Το νομοσχέδιο για τον αιγιαλό μπορεί να σπάσει τα όρια; «Το νομοσχέδιο που απεσύρθη είχε πολλά σκέλη, κάποια εκ των οποίων ήταν στη σωστή κατεύθυνση και κάποια στη λανθασμένη. Αυτό που πρωτίστως χρειαζόμαστε, για οποιονδήποτε νόμο, είναι πρωτίστως να τον εφαρμόζουμε. Οι καλοί νόμοι είναι οι εφαρμό-

Η ασχήμια είναι η ελπίδα της ανθρωπότητας. Ισχύει κατά τη γνώμη σας για το συγκεκριμένο νομοσχέδιο; «Η οργάνωση και ο σχεδιασμός είναι η ελπίδα μας. Για την ασχήμια δεν ξέρω. Το νομοσχέδιο είχε αρκετά στοιχεία οργάνωσης και σχεδιασμού, αλλά είχε και στοιχεία άφεσης παρελθόντων αμαρτημάτων. Επιμένω, όμως, πως η εφαρμογή είναι το πιο κρίσιμο διακύβευμα. Αποτελεί θεμελιώδη αντίφαση το γεγονός πως, ενώ ομολογούμε την αποτυχία μας, δε θέλουμε να αλλάξουμε το πλαίσιο που μας οδήγησε σε αυτήν. Αυτό είναι ο φόβος του αγνώστου, ο ορισμός του συντηρητισμού». Ποια είναι τα στοιχεία που μπορούν να αποτελέσουν το επίκεντρο της επικοινωνιακής καμπάνιας της Ελλάδας; «Όντας στο

διοικητικό συμβούλιο της Marketing Greece AE, της εταιρείας που έχει επισήμως αναλάβει πλέον την επικοινωνιακή μας πολιτική στον τουρισμό, έχω δει ακριβώς το πώς ενσωματώνονται τα στοιχεία αυτά στην ιστοσελίδα www. discovergreece.com όπου πρωτίστως αναδεικνύουμε την Ελλάδα που έχει τα πάντα. Θα το έλεγα “The Year-round Playground”». Η Ελλάδα υστερεί σε σχέση με άλλους ανταγωνιστικούς προορισμούς της Μεσογείου στην ανάπτυξη εγκαταστάσεων γκολφ. Η παρούσα κατάσταση για τον τουρισμό στη χώρα διευκολύνει τις επενδύσεις; «Το γεγονός πως είμαστε υπανάπτυκτοι και στον τομέα του γκολφ προσελκύει επενδυτικό ενδιαφέρον, αλλά οι επενδύσεις δεν διευκολύνονται από την ανυπαρξία τωρινού ανταγωνισμού. Οι επενδύσεις διευκολύνονται από το θεσμικό και φορολογικό πλαίσιο, την σταθερότητα, την ανταγωνιστικότητα κι όλα αυτά τα θεμελιώδη για την επιχειρηματικότητα στοιχεία». Το κράτος βοηθάει στην υλοποίηση επενδύσεων που αφορούν τη βιομηχανία του γκολφ; «Το κράτος βοηθά βασικά τον εαυτό του, και ιδίως εκείνους που έχουν την ισχύ εντός των μηχανισμών του. Αυτό που χρειάζεται η βιομηχανία γκολφ είναι το ίδιο που χρειάζονται όλες: κτηματολόγιο, δασολόγιο, σχέδια πόλεων και οικισμών, χωροταξία και χρήσεις γης, σταθερό πλαίσιο και ασφάλεια δικαίου. Όσο δεν προχωράει καμία νέα επένδυση γκολφ, και ειδικά στην Κρήτη, δεν μπορώ να θεωρώ το κράτος αρωγό». Τι θα προτείνατε στους αρμόδιους υπουργούς να πραγματοποιήσουν ώστε να διευκολύνουν την ανάπτυξη του τουρισμού για γκολφ στη χώρα μας; «Αν έκαναν τη δουλειά τους, θα ήμασταν ήδη πολύ πιο μπροστά, αντί να τηρούν πολιτικές ισορροπίες, να προβάλλονται στα ΜΜΕ και να εξυπηρετούν την πολιτική πελατεία τους». Ο πατέρας σας, σάς επηρέασε στη έως τώρα πορεία σας; «Ο πατέρας μου είναι υπόδειγμα. Για οποιονδήποτε». Υπάρχει κάτι που σας έχει συμβουλέψει και το ακολουθείτε πάντα; «“Θα είσαι πραγματικά ευτυχισμένος όταν δουλεύεις και σου αρέσει η δουλειά σου”».

o you believe in inspiration? I lose it late each night, yet it finds me early the next morning! Usually in the shower… And how do you define instinct? When your brain takes action on its own, without asking for your input. Do you have any obsessions? A few, but I would say I have more expectations. My

obsession with valid reasoning would probably be considered ordinary if our Greece weren’t so unreasonable. What are your primary concerns when facing a new project? When dealing with a construction project, I’m mostly concerned with functionality. And if it’s a business plan, then simplicity. How do you feel about Elounda? I first came to Elounda as an infant and it was where I spent the first years of my life. My parent’s work was there and we visited them as often as we could. I also opted to set up my permanent residence in Elounda, as soon as I was given the opportunity to make such a choice. How long have you been involved in the family business? For as long as I can remember! Have you ever wondered if your father encountered any difficulties in his work? I remember my father always worrying about how his plans would develop, working hard to bring them to pass, constantly facing difficulties and I eventually came to the realisation that there is no easy way to do things. Has the business philosophy of ELOUNDA S.A. changed over the years? The change process in family businesses is different to that in purely corporate enterprises: change in business philosophy is so slow and small that it’s almost imperceptible. What changes have you made to the hotel due to the global economic crisis? The Greek economic and social decline affected us more, as global tourism continues to increase

steadily due to the fact that new major players have appeared on the global economy scene, who benefited from the temporary weaknesses displayed by the USA and Europe. The most significant change we made, during the height of the Greek crisis, was to cease operations in the winter months after 14 consecutive years. Luxury tourism is currently the fastest growing sector of the global tourism industry as it has been minimally affected by the negative downturn in the economy. In your opinion, has our country exhausted its potential in this area? On the contrary, Greece is undeveloped in terms of tourism! Some destinations, such as Crete and Rhodes for example, have an oversupply of a low level product. However, the country in general has a huge untapped potential. It’s not only luxury tourism that is scarce, but also almost every other form of tourism apart from summer “sun-sand-sea” holidays. Marine tourism, in particular, is hopelessly behind the times.

Your facilities have given Elounda an international reputation as a luxury destination. Is Greece considered a luxury destination? Greece is an “everything” destination, but not all areas are being explored. We should be looking at it in terms of universality rather than exclusivity. Studies show that half our growth in the next decade will come from tourism. How should we strategically improve our competitiveness? The Board elected by the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) this year has conducted in-depth studies on how to improve our competitiveness in the industry, both in terms of infrastructure and the human resources, training, institutional and taxation frameworks. There is much to be done and we must do it all. How do you perceive yourself on a political and philosophical level? I’m a progressive centralist, a liberal democrat, a reformer and a pragmatist. Why are ideas always defeated? Ideas are defeated when their vessels fail. In democracy, the vessels are dependant on voters. It is ultimately the latter who fail and are essentially accountable for the future. Have there been times in your life when you’ve swum against the tide? By definition, a progressive reformer struggles to right wrongs. There is nothing easier than conservatism, as you are never asked to make changes to the things you’re used to. How would you define “aesthetic”? I prefer to think in terms of organisation and

planning rather than in terms of taste. Hence, my aesthetic interacts with functionality. What makes life more interesting, to surpass limits or come as close as possible to them? The limits set in each sector act as a guide for many who don’t feel the need to experiment and surpass. If you aren’t engrossed in a business sector, the limits provide a sense of security that helps you move forward peacefully. However, if you’re passionate about something, you’re sure to surpass the limits. Is anything that changes the limits a new concept? There are no limits to novelty.

Can the new shoreline bill break through the limits? The bill, which was withdrawn, had multiple parts, some of which were a step in the right direction and others that were not. What we need, and this applies to any law, is to ensure they are implemented. Good laws are enforceable and applicable. It’s universally acknowledged that the existing framework needs to change. These are the changes that I (and we, as a society) have already proposed. Ugliness is the hope for humanity. Does this apply to the shoreline bill?

Organisation and planning are our hope. I’m not so sure about ugliness. The bill had several organisation and planning points, but it also had elements that forgave the sins of the past. I insist, however, that enforcement is the most critical challenge of all. Although we confess that we’ve failed, we don’t want to change the framework that led us to failure – this is quite the fundamental contradiction. It’s the fear of the unknown, the definition of conservatism. Which elements could form the focal point of Greece’s communication campaign? I’m a board member of Marketing Greece S.A., the company that has now officially undertaken our tourism communication policy, and have seen exactly the manner in which these elements are incorporated on www.discovergreece.com, where we promote the a Greece that has everything. I would call it “The Year-round Playground”. Greece is a few steps behind other Mediterranean destinations when it comes to developing golf courses. Does the current state of tourism in our country facilitate such investments? The fact that we are also under-developed in the golfing sector does attract the interest of investors, but investment isn’t facilitated by the lack of current competition. Investments are facilitated by institutional and taxation frameworks, stability, competitiveness and all such fundamental elements of entrepreneurship. Does the State assist in implementing investment in golf? The State basically helps itself and those who are in a position of power within it. The golf industry needs exactly the same things that all industries need: land registry, forest registry, city and residential planning, land planning and land use, a stable framework and legal certitude. I cannot view the State as assisting investment implementation when there is no new investment in golf, particularly in Crete. What suggestions would you make to the relevant Ministries so as to facilitate the development of golf tourism in our country? If they did their jobs we would already have moved forward. Instead, they continue to maintain political balances, make appearances in the media and serve their political clientele. Has your father influenced your career thus far? My father is a role model. For everyone. What advice has he given you that you continue to follow? That you will be truly happy when you work and you like you job.

Από την άλλη, δύο από τα κορυφαία και πολυβραβευμένα γήπεδα παγκοσμίως, το The Dunes και The Bay Course της Costa Navarino, που μετέτρεψε τη Μεσσηνία στον απόλυτο γκολφικό προορισμό και όχι μόνο. Στο αγωνιστικό μέρος, το φετινό τουρνουά, το οποίο διεξήχθη από 11 έως και 14 Ιουνίου 2014, συγκέντρωσε 240 παίκτες, επαγγελματίες και ερασιτέχνες, από 14 χώρες του κόσμου. Όπως και τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, το τουρνουά διοργανώθηκε υπό την αιγίδα των PGAs της Ευρώπης και υπό την πλήρη υποστήριξη του PGA της Ελλάδας, της Κυπριακής και της Ελληνικής Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ. Οι 60 επαγγελματίες παίκτες που συμμετείχαν στο φετινό τουρνουά διεκδίκησαν 70.000 ευρώ, το υψηλότερο prize fund της Ευρώπης σε αγώνα Pro- Am για επαγγελματίες.

Νικητής στην κατηγορία των επαγγελματιών του 9ου “Aegean Airlines Pro-Am” και πολυνίκης, μια και το κατακτά για τρίτη φορά, αναδείχθηκε ο Ιταλός Tour player Nicolo Gaggero,ο οποίος έλαβε το χρηματικό βραβείο των 7.000 ευρώ, ενώ δεύτερος ακολούθησε ο Βρετανός Tour Player Liam Bond. Στην κατηγορία των ομάδων την πρώτη θέση κατέλαβε η ομάδα από την Ιταλία με τον επαγγελματία παίκτη Nicolo Gaggero, ενώ δεύτερη ήρθε η ομάδα από την Μεγάλη Βρετανία με τον επαγγελματία παίκτη Giles Johnson (PGA of Great Britain & Ireland). Για πρώτη φορά έλαβαν μέρος οι καλύτεροι παίκτες της Εθνικής μας ομάδας, ως ερασιτέχνες) και κατέκτησαν την 21η θέση στο Pro-Am. Από τους Έλληνες επαγγελματίες, οι καλύτερες εμφανίσεις ανήκουν στην κατηγορία των ατομικού αγώνα των επαγγελματιών στους Π. Καραντζιά (Τ9ος), Θ. Γκίνη (Τ17ος) και Χρ. Sports tourism, particularly in the golf sector, attracts high-level tourists with money to spend, enhances the range and diversity of tourist destinations, and most importantly, helps prolong the tourism season. Costa Navarino is a perfect example, as it is the only resort to open for the season on the 1st of March each year. Our vision for the development of golf in Greece and our efforts to realise this objective are unwavering. To this end, Aegean Airlines has taken a major step forward this year in terms of its involvement in professional golf. We are now the title sponsor of the Aegean Airlines Challenge Tour, the European Tour event, which will take place between the 3rd and 7th of July, 2014, this year and for the two years following, at the Hartl Resort in Bad Griesbach in Germany. We have found a new partner and we intend to create new opportunities with the resort in the future.” Ms Olga Kefalogianni, the Minister of Tourism, said, “Costa Navarino, which was the vision and dream of a unique Greek man, the late Captain V. Konstantakopoulos, is more than a luxury resort, it is also a well-established destination in Greece for golfers. The Ministry of Tourism has introduced legislation that facilitates the development of golf courses in specific regions. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to the incredible Aegean Airlines team, and Mr Theodoros Vasilakis and Mr Achilleas Konstantakopoulos for being such valuable supporters of Greek cities, for their efforts to actively promote golf in our country, and for their full support of our efforts to establish golf tourism as a key element among the many attractions offered by Greek tourism.” This year’s tournament, which was held between the 11th and 14th of June, 2014, brought together 240 players, both professional and amateur, from 14 countries. As in previous years, the tournament was organised under the auspices of the PGAs of Europe and with the full support of the PGAs of Greece and Cyprus, and the Hellenic Golf Federation. The 60 professional golfers who participated in the tournament competed for 70,000 Euro, the largest prize fund in Europe for ProAm events for professionals. Nicolo Gaggero of the Italian Tour, who took home the 7,000 Euro prize, was the winner

in the professional category of the 9th Aegean Airlines ProAm, a three-time repeat winner in the event. British Tour player Liam Bond took second place. The Italian Team won in the team category, while the team from the United Kingdom, with pro Giles Johnson (PGA of Great Britain & Ireland), came in second. The best players of our National team participated in the event for the first time (as amateurs) and took 21st place in the ProAm. The Greek professionals made a good showing in the pro individual category, with P. Karantzias (T 9th), T. Ginis (T 17th) and C. Nikolopoulos (22nd), while the teams captained by C. Nikolopoulos (14th), T. Ginis (15th) and E. Papadopoulos (17th) performed well in the team event. On Saturday, June 14th, the Football & Golf Clinics were held on the Practice Area of The Dunes Course, with the participation of veteran football players Daniel Batista Lima, Takis Gonias and Jörn Anderson, as well as champion rally driver Stamatis Katsimis, who, alongside distinguished PGA professionals offered first-rate coaching in football and golf for youngsters, journalists and fans! Over the past nine years, the Aegean Airlines ProAm has laid the foundations for the future of the sport in Greece. The 10th annual Aegean Airlines will soon be upon us. On the occasion of the commemorative nature of the event, a new goal could be to attract spectators to the event. The public would be introduced to golf and the golf course, and also have the opportunity to see sports celebrities. I honestly believe that the golf courses in Greece will become as crowded as the big tournaments are in other golf countries. But how will we manage it? Every sport needs spectators. And golf in Greece needs to broaden its public scope beyond its core of loyal followers. There are many, many ways to do this. The 10th Aegean ProAm should ring in a new era and a new objective. After all, who would have believed in 2006 – apart from those in the know – that a prestigious golf tournament could be established in a country without an education in golf and with limited golf infrastructure? Άλλωστε το όνομά του περιέχει το πρώτο συνθετικό του θρυλικού αυτόματου όπλου «Tommy Gun» Ειναι η Εθνική ομάδα ο καθρέφτης του ελληνικού γκολφ; Και βέβαια είναι. Όπως και το Greek PGΑ. Πολλοί από τους Έλληνες επαγγελματίες παίκτες που είναι μέλη του, προήρθαν από την Εθνική ομάδα. Για παράδειγμα να αναφέρω τον Παναγιώτη Καρατζιά και τον Βαγγέλη Γκίνη που μας εκπροσωπούν επάξια αυτή τη στιγμή στο εξωτερικό, ήταν μέλη της εθνικής ομάδας. Ποιοί παίκτες αποτελούν την Εθνική Ομάδα; Ο βασικός της κορμός αποτελείται από τους: Νικόλας Ευθυμιάδης , Βασίλης Κουμπάκης και Δημήτρης Ροκαδάκης. Οι τρεις του είχαν συμμετάσχει το 2013 στο Βαλκανικό πρωτάθλημα και είχαν πάρει την 3η θέση. Μάλιστα από αυτόν τον αγώνα είχε ξεχωρίσει το 69 του Δημήτρη Ροκαδάκη, που είναι το καλύτερο σκορ που έχει κάνει Έλληνας αθλητής σε διεθνή επίπεδο. Με ποιο τρόπο γίνεται η επιλογή των αθλητών που στελεχώνουν την εθνική ομάδα; Έχουμε θεσπίσει ένα point system που είναι ξεκάθαρο και ανάλογα με τη κατάταξή τους στους αγώνες επιλέγονται για την εθνική ομάδα. Για παράδειγμα φέτος μετά από μακρύ χρονικό διάστημα θα συμμετάσχουμε στο Πανευρωπαϊκό πρωτάθλημα που γίνεται στη Τσεχία με έξι αθλητές. Βάση του point system oι έξι πρώτοι αθλητές θα κληθούν στην Εθνική ομάδα. Πως είναι η συνεργασία σας με το Greek PGA; Η συνεργασία με το Greek PGA είναι εξαιρετική. Μαζί με το Γιώργο Διακου, Πρόεδρος του Greek PGA, αλλά και με τον Παναγιώτη Καρατζιά, Γενικός Γραμματέας και σε συμφωνία με τη Γενική Γραμματεία Αθλητισμού θα δημιουργήσουμε προς το τέλος Νοεμβρίου μια σχολή προπονητών Γ΄κατηγορίας. Με αυτό το τρόπο όλα τα μέλη του Greek PGA που θα παρακολουθήσουν αυτή τη σχολή θα πάρουν από την Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Γκολφ ένα δίπλωμα και αυτομάτως θα έχουν δικαίωμα εργασίας στην Ελλάδα. Τι περιμένετε από του ς Ομίλους και τις Ακαδημίες τους; Οι Αθλητικοί Όμιλοι είναι η ραχοκοκαλιά της Ελληνική Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ. Οι Όμιλοι είναι τα μέλη μας και λόγω αυτών υφίσταται η Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Γκολφ. Ενθαρύνουμε συνέχεια τους Ομίλους να δημιουργήσουν ακαδημίες. Για παράδειγμα η πρόσφατη Ακαδημία της Costa Navarino. Παρά το γεγονός ότι δεν υπάρ-

χει αθλητικός όμιλος η δουλειά που γίνεται εκεί είναι πολύ καλή και ως ομοσπονδία έχουμε εντάξη τα παιδιά της Ακαδημίας στον Όμιλο της Γλυφάδας για να μπορέσουμε να τους εκδώσουμε αθλητικά δελτία, έτσι ώστε να μπορέσουν να συμμετέχουν σε αγώνες. Αυτό είναι καλό για την ομοσπονδία γιατί μέχρι τώρα έχουμε 250 αθλητικά δελτία και στόχος μας μέχρι το τέλος της χρονιάς είναι να τα ανεβάσουμε στα 400. Οι Ακαδημίες με το τρόπο που λειτουργούν βοηθούν την Εθνική ομάδα; Στο Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα match play που έγινε την Άνοιξη, δημιουργήσαμε τη κατηγορία Παίδων ηλικίας από 10 έως 14 ετών. Από αυτή τη κατηγορία ξεχώρισαν δύο αθλητές, ο Γιώργος Παχιαδάκης και ο Γιώργος Τομαράς που έπαιξαν πολύ καλό γκολφ αλλά είχαν και εξαιρετική αθλητική συμπεριφορά. φόρο μήνυμα στη μέχρι τώρα θητεία μου ως γενικός γραμματέας. Στόχος μας είναι να φτιάξουμε την εθνική ομάδα που θα πάει στην Ολυμπιάδα του 2020 και αναζητούμε αθλητές αυτής της κατηγορίας ώστε να προπονηθούν σωστά. Οι στόχοι της Ελληνικής Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ; Είναι πολύ σημαντικό να καταφέρουμε να δημιουργήσουμε τη σχολή προπονητών και να υπάρξουν προπονητές γκολφ από μία ελληνική σχολή. Αυτή τη στιγμή πρέπει να εντάξουμε στο website της Γενικής Γραμματείας Αθλητισμού στις ειδικές κατηγορίες αναγνωρισμένους Έλληνες προπονητές. Λυπάμαι που το λέω αλλά δεν έχουμε σχεδόν καθόλου. Είναι μόλις τέσσερις οι προπονητές που είναι αναγνωρισμένοι ενώ υπάρχουν πάνω από 30 Έλληνες προπονητές γκολφ που μπορούν να αποκτήσουν με τη λειτουργία της σχολή την ειδική αναγνώριση από τη Γενική Γραμματεία.

Βεβαια το πιο ουσιαστικό είναι η δημιουργία μιας ισχυρής Εθνικής ομάδας. Θα διεκδικήσουμε την άνοδό μας από τη Β΄κατηγορία στην Α΄κατηγορία στο Πανευρωπαϊκό πρωτάθλημα που θα γίνει στη Τσεχία. Το Σεπτέμβριο θα πάρουμε μέρος στο Παγκόσμιο που γίνεται στην Ιαπωνία από 10-15 Σεπτεμβρίου. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι στο τουρνουά αυτό έχουν δικαίωμα συμμετοχής 72 χώρες μόνο και είναι πολύ σημαντικό που είμαστε μία από αυτές. Αναλογιστείτε ότι υπάρχουν 135 εθνικές ομάδες που θέλουν να συμμετάσχουν λόγω της παγκόσμιας απήχησης του. Η νέα διοίκηση της ομοσπονδίας τι κατάφερε να αλλάξει το τελευταίο διάστημα; To 2012 η ΕΟΓ είχε καταφέρει να κάνει μόνο το Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα. Το 2013 καταφέραμε και πραγματοποιήσαμε Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα Match Play, Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα Stroke Play, Spring Cup, Super Cup και Year End Cup. Κάναμε επίσης δύο προπονητικά camp και συμμετείχαμε σε δύο αγώνες στο εξωτερικό. Για το 2014 εκτός από τα προαναφερθέντα θα συμμετέχουμε στο πανευρωπαϊκό στη Τσεχία και στο Παγκόσμιο στην Ιαπωνία αλλά θα στείλουμε και έναν αθλητή junior στο Junior British Open. Έχουμε αναβαθμίσει το website της ομοσπονδίας, όπου εκεί μπορεί οποιοσδήποτε να διαβάσει του κανόνες του αθλήματος για την ομαλή λειτουργία του Σπορ χωρίς κανένα περιθώριο αμφισβήτησης. Οι χορηγοί βοηθάνε στην ανάπτυξη του αθλήματος; Χωρίς τους χορηγούς δε νομίζω ότι θα είχαμε καταφέρει όλα όσα έχουμε κάνει μέχρι τώρα. Βασικοί μας χορηγοί είναι η Aegean Airlines που είναι και η κινητήρια μας δύναμή γιατί καλύπτει τις ανάγκες σε εισιτήρια όχι μόνο σε εμάς αλλά και στους Όμιλους και στις Ακαδημίες τους, για να μπορούν να συμμετάσχουν σε όλα τα τουρνουά που διοργανώνει η Ομοσπονδία. Σημαντικός χορηγός επίσης για την Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Γκολφ είναι η JOTUN HELLAS. Στη μέχρι τώρα συνεργασία είναι πάντα δίπλα μας σε ότι έχουμε χρειαστεί και μας υποστηρίζει οικονομικά σε κάθε ανάγκη μας. Ιδιαίτερη μνεία πρέπει να κάνουμε για τον κ. Hans Otto Nagel, που βρίσκεται πάντα στο πλευρό μας. Το 2014 αποκτήσαμε ένα καινούργιο χορηγό, την εταιρεία FXCM που ασχολείται με το forex trading στα χρηματιστήρια. Σχετικά με τη Γενική Γραμματεία Αθλητισμού επιτρέψτε μου να σας παρουσιάσω μερικά πράγματα για να καταλάβετε την κατάσταση στην οποία βρίσκεται ο ελληνικός αθλητισμός. Το 2012 είχαν μοιραστεί στις ομοσπονδίες € 48.000.000, το 2013 μοιράστηκαν € 24.000.000 και το 2014 θα μοιραστούν € 12.000.000. Όπως καταλαβαίνετε βρισκόμαστε σε μια κατάσταση διαρκούς πίεσης προς τη Γενική Γραμματεία προκειμένου να διεκδι-

κήσουμε περισσότερα χρήματα. Όμως το επαναλαμβάνω, οι χορηγοί είναι αυτοί που μας έχουν βοηθήσει και χωρίς αυτούς δεν θα είχαμε πραγματοποιήσει ότι έχουμε κάνει έως τώρα. Τους ευχαριστούμε για την πολύτιμη συνεισφορά τους. Να θυμάστε ότι προσπαθούμε να θωρακίσουμε όσο περισσότερο γίνεται το ελληνικό γκολφ και ελπίζω στο μέλλον τα πράγματα να είναι πολύ καλύτερα για όλους μας.

o one could possibly describe the transformation of the Hellenic Golf Federation better than Mr Tommy Tokas, its Secretary General. After all, his first name is synonymous with the prefix of the legendary Tommy Gun. Does the National Team embody Greek golf? Of course it does. As does the Greek PGA. Many Greek pros, who are members of the PGA, got their start on the National Team. For example, Panayiotis Karatzias and Vangelis Ginis, both of whom are worthy representatives of Greek golf abroad, were members of the National Team. Which players are currently on the National Team? The team is comprised of: Nikolas Efthymiades, Vasilis Koumpakis and Dimitris Rokadakis. They competed in the 2013 Balkan Championship and took third place. Dimitris Rokadakis distinguished himself with 69 strokes, the best score of any Greek athlete at an international event. How are players selected for the National Team? We have established a clearly defined point system and players are selected for the National Team in accordance with their ranking in tournaments. This year, for instance, we will be participating in the European Championship in the Czech Republic for the first time in several years. Six athletes will be invited to the National Team based on their scores in the point system. Tell us about your collaboration with the Greek PGA. It is excellent. With the collaboration of Giorgos Diakos, President of the Greek PGA, Panayiotis Karatzias, the Secretrary General, and in agreements reached with the General Secretariat of Sports, we will be creating a Cat. 3 golf academy in late November. Thus, all members of the Greek PGA who attend the academy will receive a diploma from the Hellenic Golf Federation and will earn the right to work in Greece. What are your expectations of the Clubs and their Academies? Athletic Clubs are the backbone of the Hellenic Golf Federation because

the Clubs are our members and it is because of them that the Federation exists. We are always encouraging Clubs to create academies, such as the recently founded Academy at Costa Navarino. Despite the fact that Costa Navarino does not have a Club, the work being done there is excellent and the Federation has registered the youngsters of the Academy in the Glyfada Golf Club so as to issue them credentials that allow them to participate in tournaments. This is good for the Federation because we have already assisted in issuing 250 credentials and our goal is to increase this number to 400 by the end of the year. Are the Academies of assistance to the National Team? The Pan-Hellenic Tournament match play that took place in the spring was comprised of youths between the ages of 10 and 14. Two athletes stood out from this category, Giorgos Pahiadakis and Giorgos Tomaras, who

played excellent golf and displayed outstanding sportsmanship. I perceive this as a positive and optimistic outcome in my time so far as Secretary General. Our goal is to build a National Team that will compete in the 2020 Olympics and we are seeking athletes in this category, who will be trained accordingly. What are the objectives of the Hellenic Golf Federation? It is extremely important to create academies for coaches and to produce golf coaches who trained at a Greek academy. We need to integrate qualified Greek coaches into the appropriate categories of the website of the General Secretariat of Sports. It pains me to say that we have very few coaches. There are only four recognised coaches, while there are over 30 Greek golf coaches who could be trained at our Academy and afterwards receive recognition from the General Secretariat of

Sports. Our most important goal is to build a strong National Team. We will attempt to move from Cat. B to Cat. A in the European Tournament in the Czech Republic. In September, we will be participating in the World Tour in Japan from the 10th to the 15th. It is worth noting that only 72 countries are eligible to participate in the tournament and we are one of them. This is very significant as there are 135 national teams that wish to participate in this important competition. What changes has the new committee of the Federation made recently? In 2012, the Hellenic Golf Federation managed only to organise the National Tournament. However, in 2013, we successfully organised the National Tournament Match Play, the National Tournament Stroke Play, the Spring Cup, the Super Cup and the Year End Cup. We also established two training camps and participated in two tournaments abroad. In 2014, in addition to all the above events, we will also be competing in the European Tour in the Czech Republic and in the World Tour in Japan. Moreover, we are also sending a junior athlete to the Junior British Open. We have redesigned the Federation website, where one can read the rules of the sport so as to facilitate its smooth operation and leave no margin for confusion. Do sponsors help to develop the sport? I don’t believe we would have been able to achieve our goals without sponsors. Our main sponsor is Aegean Airlines, which is also our motivating strength as it fulfils the ticketing requirements of the Federation, the Clubs and their Academies so that they can participate in all tournaments organised by the Federation. JOTUN HELLAS is another major sponsor of the Hellenic Golf Federation. They have offered us support and financial backing every step of the way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Hans Otto Nagel, who has been a constant advocate. In 2014, we acquired a new sponsor: FXCM, a forex and stock trading company. As regards the General Secretariat of Sports, please allow me to explain a few things about the status of Greek sports. In 2012, sports federations shared € 48,000,000. In 2013, it was € 24,000,000 and in 2014 that amount was reduced to € 12,000,000. We are under continuous pressure from the General Secretariat to raise more money. Nonetheless, I would like to reiterate that sponsors have been a great help and we would never have been so successful without them. We thank them for their valuable contributions. O πρώτος αγώνας του “Hellenic Junior Team Championship” πραγματοποιήθηκε μεταξύ 25 και 27 Ιουλίου στις εγκαταστάσεις της Costa Navarino. Η ιδέα για τη καθιέρωση του αγώνα ήρθε μετά από πρωτοβουλία του Αδάμ Κρητικού και του Σταύρου Παρθένη. Κάθε χρόνο θα συναντιώνται οι καλύτεροι παίχτες απ’ τις πιο δραστήριες ακαδημίες γκολφ στην Ελλάδα, και θα διαγωνίζονται σε ένα φιλικό αλλά ταυτόχρονα ανταγωνιστικό The first annual Hellenic Junior Team περιβάλλον. ο τουρνουά ακολουθεί το φορμάτ του γνωστού αγώνα Ryder Cup, όπου οι παίχτες αγωνίζονται σε ατομικά και ομαδικά παιχνίδια “match play”, με κάθε νίκη να δίνει έναν βαθμό στη κάθε ομάδα και η ισοπαλία να δίνει μισό βαθμό. Στη φετινή διοργάνωση, συμμετείχαν 12 παιδιά από κάθε ακαδημία. Αναλυτικά το πρόγραμμα του αγώνα περιλάμβανε: 25 Ιουλίου: 18 τρύπες “fourball matchplay”. Στα 6 ματς που πραγματοποιήθηκαν (6 ομάδες από 2 παίχτες), οι 2 ακαδημίες ήρθαν ισόπαλες με κάθε ακαδημία να κερδίζει απο 3 ματς. 26 Ιουλίου: 18 τρύπες “fourball match play”. Σε επανάληψη του φορμάτ της 1η μέρας, η Ακαδημία της Γλυφάδας κατάφερε να επικρατήσει σε 5 απ’ τα 6 ματς, πέρνοντας προβάδισμα με σκορ 8-4. 27 Ιουλίου: 18 τρύπες “singles match play”. Στο ατομικό match play υπηρχαν 12 διαθέσιμοι πόντοι για κάθε ομάδα, δίνοντας την ευκαιρία και στις 2 ομάδες

να κερδίσουν τον αγώνα. Η Ακαδημία της Γλυφάδας κατάφερε να επικρατήσει στο τέλος της ημέρας κερδίζοντας 9 από τα 12 ματς της ημέρας. Το τελικό σκορ του αγώνα ήταν 17-7 υπερ της Γλυφάδας. Ακολούθησε απονομή της νικήτριας ομάδας στο εστιατόριο Flame, καθώς και στους δύο πολυνίκεις αθλητές της κάθε ακαδημίας. Αυτοί ήταν οι εξής: - Γλυφάδα: Αθηνά Ρέππα & Ρίζου Νεφέλη, με 3/3 νίκες - Costa Navarino: Βαγγέλης Κατσιρούμπας με 3/3 νίκες, Παναγιώτης Πανταζόπουλος με 2/3 νίκες. Η φιλοδοξία είναι να συνεχιστεί αυτός ο αγώνας κάθε χρόνο, με την προοπτική να εναλάσσεται μεταξύ Γλυφάδας και Costa Navarino. Αυτό θα δώσει την ευκαιρία στα παιδιά να μάθουν να παίζουν εντός και εκτός έδρας, όπως επίσης και να μάθουν τις βασικές αξίες της ομαδικής διοργάνωσης. Ευελπιστούμε ότι ο αγώνας αυτός θα βελτιώσει τις αθλητικές ικανότητες των παιδιών και θα ανεβάσει το επίπεδο του γκολφ στην Ελλάδα.

he tournament is modelled on the Ryder Cup, where players compete in both individual and team “match plays”, with one point awarded to the winning team and half a point for draws. The event was attended by 12 youngsters from each academy. The following events took place at the Championship: 25 July: 18-hole fourball match play. Two academies competed in 6 matches (6 2-player teams) that resulted in a draw, with each academy winning three matches. 26 July: 18-hole fourball match play. In a repetition of the format from Day 1, the Glyfada Academy managed to prevail in 5 out of 6 matches, taking the lead with a score of 8-4. 27 July: 18-hole singles match play. There were 12 points total available for each team, which meant that both teams had the opportunity to win the

match. The Glyfada Academy managed to pull ahead at the end of the day, winning 9 out of the 12 matches. The final overall score was 17-7 in favour of Glyfada. The prize ceremony was held at the Flame Restaurant and the two best athletes from each academy were also honoured: - Glyfada: Athina Reppas & Nefeli Rizou (both with 3 out of 3 wins). - Costa Navarino: Vangelis Katsiroumpas (3 out of 3 wins), Panagiotis Pantazopoulos (2 out of three wins). The intention is to hold the competition annually, alternating between the Glyfada and Costa Navarino courses. In addition to offering young players the opportunity to compete both at home and away, they will also learn the core values of team play. We hope that this event will improve the skills of the younger generation and elevate the level of golf in Greece.

Το ερώτημα είναι αν ο McIlroy θα γίνει ένας από τους καλύτερους στην ιστορία του αθλήματος

ίναι μόλις 25 ετών. Ο Rory McIlroy κέρδισε το δεύτερο του κατά σειρά major πρωτάθλημα γκολφ σε ένα εξαιρετικό καλοκαίρι για τον ίδιο. Είναι το τέταρτο major πρωτάθλημα του στα τελευταία τρία χρόνια και. Είναι ο τρίτος νεαρότερος παίκτης που κατάφερε να νικήσει σε τόσα major πρωταθλήματα στην σύγχρονη εποχή. Μόνο ο Tiger Woods και ο Jack Nicklaus το κατάφεραν σε μικρότερη ηλικία. Μάλιστα έχει καταφέρει να κερδίσει τρία σημαντικά τουρνουά στη σειρά. Το ερώτημα είναι αν ο McIlroy θα γίνει ένας από τους καλύτερους στην ιστορία του αθλήματος. Προφανώς αυτό είναι κάτι που θα φανεί με το πέρασμα του χρόνου. Το ερώτημα όμως επανέρχεται συνεχώς μια και ο Tiger Woods έχει αφήσει αναπλήρωτο κενό στην κορυφή. Είναι σχεδόν αδύνατο να γράψεις για τον McIlroy χωρίς τη φράση: Aπό την εποχή του Tiger Woods. Ο τελευταίος γύρος του USPGA απέφερε την υψηλότερη θεαματικότητα για το Πρωτάθλημα PGA από το 2009, όταν αγωνιζόταν ο Tiger Woods. Ο McIlroy έφτασε στο τέταρτο του τρόπαιο

των major γρηγορότερα από οποιονδήποτε άλλον από την εποχή του Tiger. Η άνοδος του συνέπεσε με την κάθοδο του Woods, ο οποίος αποκλείστηκε από τη συνέχεια του τουρνουά. Έχει κατακτήσει 4 majors μετά το 2008, χρονιά που ο Οι τέσσερις τίτλοι major του McIlroy έχουν έρθει αφότου ο Woods κέρδισε τον τελευταίο του major. Για τον McIlroy το δύσκολο πιθανό δεν είναι η κατάκτηση ενός major αλλά ενδεχομένως κατά πόσος είναι αυτός ο "Εκλεκτός" που θα καλύψει το δυσαναπλήρωτο κενό που αφήνει πίσω του ο Tiger. Η βιομηχανία του γκολφ έχει βρεθεί σε ελεύθερη πτώση από τότε που ο Woods απογείωσε το άθλημα περισσότερο από μια δεκαετία πριν. Η συμμετοχή, τα χρήματα που ξοδεύονται, και η τηλεθέαση είναι όλα πεσμένα. Το γκολφ χρειάζεται έναν νέο θρύλο επειγόντως. «Μόλις έπαιξα το καλύτερο γκολφ της ζωής μου» είπε ο McIlroy. που θύμιζε Tiger καθώς κύλισε 18 μέτρα, κάτι που οι περισσότερες μπάλες δεν έκαναν, αφήνοντας τον περίπου 2 μέτρα από την τρύπα. Αυτό το χτύπημα θα παίζεται και θα ξαναπαίζεται για δεκαετίες. Είναι δύσκολο να προβλέψει κανείς εάν ο Rory McIlroy θα είναι ο νέος θρύλος του γκολφ. Η πίεση που υφίσταται πλέον δεν έχει προηγούμενο. Είναι ο νούμερο ένα παίκτης στον κόσμο. Το πολύ άγχος κάνει τους κοινούς ανθρώπους να ξεχνούν τον αριθμό του τηλεφώνου τους. Το να διατηρείς το επίπεδο (στο άθλημα) είναι κουραστικό. ory McIlroy has won his second straight major golf championship. It is his 4th major in the last 3 years and two months. He is just 25 years old. He is the 3rd youngest to win that many majors in this modern era. Only Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus did it younger. In fact, he’s won three significant tournaments in a row. The question is whether he is already in their class and in the same conversation about becoming one of the best ever. It’s almost impossible to write about McIlroy without those three words: since Tiger Woods. In the final round drew the highest rating for the PGA Championship since 2009, when Woods was in the running. McIlory reached his fourth major trophy the quickest of anybody since Tiger. His rise has overlapped with the decline of Woods, who missed the cut in this tournament. All four of McIlroy’s major titles have come since Woods won his last, in 2008. The golf industry has been in free-fall since Woods brought it to new heights more than a decade ago. Participation, spending, and TV ratings are all down. Golf, needs someone to come along and start taking the sport by the scruff of the neck and winning regularly. “I just played the best golf of my life,” said McIlroy. That would have to include an eye-popping drive on the 16th hole. The Rory power was no fluke. He followed up with a 9-iron over 220 yards on the very next shot – a 9-iron. And his eagle on the 10th hole featured a Tigeresque second shot rolling 20 yards when most balls did not, leaving him 7 feet from the hole. He was 3 back at the time and on the back nine. The shot will be replayed for decades. It is hard to predict whether Mr McIlroy will be the best over the long haul. He is now under unprecedented pressure. He is the number one player in the world. High anxiety causes ordinary humans to forget their own phone number. Keeping the status is tedious. So is the publicity of being hunted and overexposed. It doesn’t help when just after the win, the same commentator said he was a “Babyfaced killer…in control of this sport.” He followed up with “He has been the story and no one else”. The first comment was unintentionally unflattering and a bit premature. The second ignores a whole lot of great play

by excellent players. I prefer to trust and respect Rory’s own words: “I’ve still got a long way to go”, adding, “I don’t know if I’ll ever have a summer like this again.” Good for him. Those of us who just talk about sports have a tendency to use hyperbole for money on occasion. Let’s not forget that Tiger won 12 majors in a decade (the 2000s). No one else has come close. Nicklaus had 8. Still, there is plenty of reason for optimism. Rory appears grounded and relatively baggagefree. He may well have the maturity to handle it. He credits his parents for keeping him “grounded” during his three year stretch of struggles trying to “get on the other side of fame” as termed by Golf Channel commentators. Rory also appears to do what greats can do: to win with a bit of a B-game against A-level competition. Down the stretch, he hit every green in regulation despite adversity. It cannot be easy for a fast player by nature to have to wait on nearly every hole. He lost the lead on

A little over 90 years ago, 20 men assembled at Gleneagles in the heartland of Scotland for an international challenge match between Great Britain and the United States. Among them were golfing greats such as Harry Vardon, J.H. Taylor and Walter Hagen. The 1921 match had no name, no real fanfare and no trophy to play for - but it whetted the appetite and eventually gave rise to the phenomenon of The Ryder Cup, played officially for the first time six years later. For the first time in over 40 years and only the second time in its history, the tournament will be held in Scotland, the Home of Golf in 2014. With such history, it is needless to say that The 2014 Ryder Cup will be a tremendous occasion with Europe looking to complete their hat-trick of successive wins and the American team returning hungrier than ever.

Ή μάλλον καλύτερα ήταν αρκετοί για να δικαιολογηθεί και ο λόγος που διοργανώθηκε από τον ιστορικό Όμιλο Γκολφ Γλυφάδας-Αθηνών και υπό την ιερή επιστασία του Greek PGA, το 1ο Junior PoAm, τα έσοδα του οποίου θα καλύψουν τις ανάγκες της Ακαδημίας του Ομίλου. Εξαιρετική η βοήθεια του Greek PGA στη διοργάνωση ενός αγώνα για φιλανθρωπικό σκοπό κυρίως γιατί ο αγώνας πραγματοποιήθηκε μια εβδομάδα πριν το 9o Aegean Airlines ProAm. Εξαιρετική επίσης και η προσπάθεια

που κατέβαλε ο Όμιλος, το Δ.Σ. του Ομίλου και ο πρόεδρος του κ. Δημήτρης Ροκαδάκης. Οφείλουμε ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στα 100 περίπου άτομα που συμμετείχαν και ενίσχυσαν το φυτώριο του Ομίλου αλλά και του Ελληνικού γκολφ. Από την άλλη μου προκαλεί θλίψη η διαπίστωση ότι σε τέτοιου είδους ενέργειες δεν υπάρχει πλήρη συμμετοχή όλων των μελών του ιστορικού Ομίλου. Το χειρότερο δε, είναι όταν διαπιστώνω ότι η μη συμμετοχή οφείλεται σε μικροπρεπείς λόγους άνευ ουσίας. Νομίζω ότι οφείλουμε κατ’αρχήν όσοι

είμαστε μέλη του Ομίλου Γκολφ Γλυφάδας Αθηνών να υποστηρίζουμε και να επιδοκιμάζουμε τέτοιου χαρακτήρα ενέργειες με τη συμμετοχή μας πρώτα απ’ όλα. Οτιδήποτε άλλο είναι δικαιολογίες και μάλιστα φθηνές που δεν αρμόζουν στο etiquette του Σπορ. Το Σπορ του γκολφ είναι πάνω και πέρα από τον καθένα μας και οφείλουμε όσοι ασχολούμαστε με αυτό να το προωθούμε ανιδιοτελώς και να μην περιθωριοποιούμε πρόσωπα και καταστάσεις. Υπάρχουν τρόποι και διαδικασίες για όλα. Αλοίμονο αν αρχίσουμε περιθωριοποιούμε τα τουρνουά που διοργανώνονται...

Maybe I think it was enough to justify why the historic Golf Club Glyfada-Athens and under the stewardship of the Greek PGA was organized the 1st Junior Charity PoAm, whose revenue will cover the needs of the Group's Academy. It was important the help on behalf of Greek PGA help to organised the tournament mostly because the tournament was held a week before the 9th Aegean Airlines ProAm. Excellent also the efforts from Glyfada Golf Club and the Board of Director, the President of Club Mr Dimitris Rokadakis. We owe a big thanks to the 100 people who support the Club and the Academy. The Club's activities should have the full support of its members. Especially when this kind of actions help the development of the golf in Greece and have full support the Golf Academy.

The Crete Golf Club

Afandou Golf Course, Rhodes

The Crete Golf Club is a relatively recent creation, about 16 miles east of Heraklion airport and surrounded by posh hotels, so it’s pretty easy of access. Opened in October 2003, it’s a year-round course, 18-hole par, designed by PGA Design Consulting of Great Britain. The course includes a double-ended 300-yard covered driving range with a short game area and two practice putting greens. It also has a golf academy for teenagers and adults. The 18-hole par 73 course was designed by Donald Harradine and opened in May 1973. Open all year round, the Afandou Golf Club can supply you with caddies, caddy carts, golf clubs and balls for a very reasonable rental fee. In July 2007 the Afandou Golf Course hosted the golfing events of the International Island Games Athletic Competition.

Cigar Face- Celtic Manor 2010 Η φωτογραφία είναι αληθινή και δεν είναι προϊόν επεξεργασίας με photoshop. O Tiger Woods βρισκόταν στο rough της No18 όταν ένα κακό χτύπημα είχε σαν αποτέλεσμα η μπάλα να χτυπήσει τη φωτoγραφική μηχανή του Mark Pain, φωτογράφου της Daily Mail και να πέσει στο έδαφος. Παρά το γεγονός ότι οι λογομαχίες του Tiger Woods αλλά και του caddy του Steve Williams με τους φωτογράφους είναι πολλές, στο συγκεκριμένο περιστατικό ο Woods δεν παραπονέθηκε καθόλου καθώς ο φωτογράφος βρισκόταν σε κανονικό σημείο και όλα προήλθαν από δικό του λάθος. Αλλά το καλύτερο σημείο στη φωτογραφία που κλέβει τη δόξα του Tiger Woods είναι ο τύπος στο δεξί μέρος της εικόνας με το πούρο. Παρατηρήστε την έκφραση!

This is not a Photoshop art. That's really Tiger Woods hitting a golf ball straight at the camera. How'd it happen? By mistake. The cameraman, Mark Pain of the Daily Mail, was in the proper position on the 18th hole when Woods flat-out his shot. The ball hit Pain's camera and dropped to the ground. But unlike many instances when Woods and caddy Stevie Williams have taken issue with photographers, Tiger had nothing to say here. He knew he was in the wrong. Best part of the image? The smiling dude with the cigar on the right side of the frame.
