welcome

Can connecting be the key? Connect. Disconnect. Be social. Be mindful. Be more. Do more. Wait, do less? The expectations on us as meeting professionals continue to grow daily. Emails are waiting. The phone is ringing. At every turn we are supposed to be getting more out of our lives, both personally and professionally. And, honestly I am not sure that’s possible, while continuing to be our ‘authentic selves.’ And here we are throwing gasoline on the fire encouraging you to ‘Grow your Connections’ at IncentiveWorks. Trust me, this offer is not meant to pour more on you; it’s actually designed to help you do less. Over the next two days I’m hoping you meet some new people, rekindle some old relationships and strengthen the great ones you have. That way, when you need an ace up your sleeve you’ll have a whole new crop of great connections to lean on. Take this time to explore the entire show — there are so many new companies and services in the marketplace that you can meet rather than spending hundreds of hours researching them online later. Use IncentiveWorks as your research hub for ideas, products, partners...and connections. Meet as many new people as you can. You never know what your stakeholders may ask of you next — being prepared is half the battle! Robin Paisley, Managing Director, IncentiveWorks @robinpaisley

And when you need to take a break from the action, we encourage you to visit our life and business coaches (in our Coaching Corner) who will provide you with personal advice. Or, visit our Wellness Lounge where you will learn how to truly become more mindful. Our meditation expert will teach you some amazing breathing techniques. Trust me, they work!

IncentiveWorks appreciates the importance of doing what you can to give back to our local and global communities. In 2012, IncentiveWorks featured an influential speaker, Scott Harrison, the Founder of charity: water. Scott inspired the crowd with his story of how charity: water was developed by taking an interest in a well-known cause, the worldwide water crisis, then utilizing his innovative marketing techniques which he developed while working as an event promoter in New York City. Since charity: water was founded in 2006 it has gained global recognition and inspired the world to donate. Even celebrities are getting in on the action, giving up their birthdays in lieu of donations to the cause. www.charitywater.org Over the past three years, IncentiveWorks has donated $22,175 CDN to provide communities in developing countries access to clean and safe drinking water. Once again, IncentiveWorks is proud to support charity: water and will donate $25 from every ticket purchased for the Closing Party to this worthy cause.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2015 BREAKOUT SESSIONS 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. INCENTIVE TRAVEL RFPS AND RESPONSES Presented by Jennifer Glynn, Meeting Encore

Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are the primary tool that buyers use to express requirements for an incentive travel experience. The response to the RFP is the supplier’s opportunity to demonstrate how they can fulfill these requirements and provide a memorable solution for the buyer’s community of qualifiers. In this session, attendees will explore both sides of this process, considering best practices in both developing RFPs and in responding to them and learn more about special considerations. This session is appropriate for sales professionals, buyers, and brokers who have more than five years of experience in the Incentive Travel industry.

Easy-to-use project management platforms such as Basecamp, Planning Pod and OneLobby can help tremendously. In this session, we’ll delve into a few of these platforms, and show you how you can customize them to best suit your (and your team’s) needs, and transform the way you plan your next event.

CONTENT MARKETING AND CURATION Presented by Dahlia El Gazzar, CMP The Meeting Pool

It’s getting tougher and tougher to engage with attendees. That is unless you’re giving them something they can use. That’s where content marketing comes into play. If you can market your company and your event to members, clients and attendees and also provide them with useful, relevant content, well that’s win-win. SOCIAL SELLING: OPTIMIZING YOUR PERSONAL ONLINE BRAND Presented by Mark R. Thompson, McKinley Solutions Exchange

Branding has long been relegated to companies, but today every salesperson has a personal brand. While not many of us have consciously cultivated these brands, they exist nonetheless. Whether you are a seasoned veteran, a young professional, work for a large corporation or run your own shop, your personal brand is critical to your success. It is not only about being on the latest social platform, it is about designing and managing a plan that allows you to be a part of the conversation. The question is no longer if you have a personal brand, but if you choose to guide and cultivate the brand or let it be defined on your behalf. The conversation is happening, the question is — are you invited? In this session you will learn tips and techniques on how you can grow and maintain a great personal brand through a credible web presence and a well thought out strategy.

UNSELLING: The New Attendee Experience UnSelling is about the big picture: creating repeat attendees, not one-timers. Create audiences that refer others, not faceles numbers. Become the go-to event for your industry. In this highly energetic and engaging talk, audiences will learn: +  Why the people you hire for

+  Why one negative review can outweigh a thousand social media

followers if it isn’t handled correctly.

the tasks you hire them to do. +  Where Canada is going

+  Why social media can be the wrong choice for your conference.

These and countless other underappreciated truths add up to a new way of thinking about audiences that will completely change the way you run your event, for the better.

You don’t need social media, but you can be connecting with your audience socially. Your event video doesn’t have to be viral in front of a million people, just contagious in front of your specific attendees. Content, connection, engagement. How to Spot a Liar We all do it. And so do the people around us — our co-workers, clients, friends. In fact, studies show that people encounter anywhere from 10-200 lies a day. But what if you could spot a liar? Pamela Meyer’s mission is to help people get to the truth. Extensively trained in the use of visual cues and psychology to detect deception, Meyer teaches audiences how to go from lie-spotting to truth-seeking to trust-building. A certified fraud examiner, Meyer reveals which personality types lie, how deception is expressed in email, on the phone, and in person, and how to detect deception through body language. Learn how you can gain the upper hand and close deals that last by mastering deception detection techniques. In a multimedia presentation featuring real-life examples and scientific findings, Meyer keeps her audience laughing while they learn and presents a path toward trust that emphasizes integrity, maturity, and the importance of having difficult conversations during difficult times.

Six Degrees of Connectedness

What’s New and Now in Event Marketing

Facilitated by: Sara Vanderbilt, SPIN Session style: Peer-to-peer discussion

Facilitated by: Alissa Hurley, CMM, Kinaxis Session style: Peer-to-peer discussion

We’ve all faced challenges at some point in time — projects, technology, work/life balance, etc. Often, we are just one or two people away from having our needs/wants met — all we have to do is be willing to ask for it and help others. Inspired by the Six Degrees of Separation theory, in this interactive session you’ll connect with other industry professionals and receive resources that will help you attain your need or want, and help others on their quest. Expect a purposeful, focused, resultdriven networking opportunity and bring your needs and ideas!

Email? Check. Post card? Check. Social media? Check. As event marketers, we have our general bases covered. But have you considered Periscope? What about Meerkat? If you had to google what either of those terms meant, gather round for a discussion about what’s upcoming and what’s working right now in event marketing. Bring your event marketing questions and suggestions and prepare to share, and learn, from your peers.

Simple Ways to Increase Survey Response Rates Facilitated by: Wendy Hallé, CMP, Absolute Conferences & Events Inc. Session style: Peer-to-peer discussion

Facilitated by: Jennifer Dela-Cruz, CMP, RBC Session style: Peer-to-peer discussion Complaints happen. After all, you can’t please everyone. So what do you do when an exhibitor, sponsor or attendee complains on-site at your event? How can you smooth things over or better yet, turn a negative situation into a positive customer service experience? In this peer-to-peer discussion, we’ll discuss some of the best strategies for handling a complaint while on-site at your event and you’ll walk away armed with ideas so you’re prepared next time something goes awry.

For a lot of us, our post-conference surveys let us know if a speaker was well-received, the event was a success, and can give us ideas we will implement in the future. But if no one fills them out, or far less care and effort is put into the responses than you might have hoped, you’re in trouble. In this peer-to-peer discussion, you’ll discover some of the easiest ways to improve response rates for your surveys.

How To Turn Online Interactions Into Business Relationships

How To Work With Social Influencers

Presented by: Mariella Irivarren, CMP, Corporate Event Manager Session style: Single speaker + discussion Do you connect with people on LinkedIn, RT others on Twitter or comment on others’ Facebook posts. Have you sent a few quick nice-to-meet you emails but haven’t quite gotten over the acquaintance hump yet? In this session, we’ll discuss how to turn simple online interactions — via social media — into business relationships with vendors, potential employers or clients. Social media may be a timewaster for some, but for smart and savvy planners, it’s another way of expanding your network!

In this session, you’ll find out how to identify and work with influencers in your industry to build attendance and boost your event’s profile.

As an event planner you have to be many things — detail oriented, creative and an excellent contract negotiator. In this session, our expert will help you with the latter, and you’ll discover clauses that are advantageous to your client, clauses that are onesided and clauses that should be there, but often are not. Leave this session with a better understanding of what to watch for (and watch out for!) during your next negotiation.
