• 6 Chapters based on employment sector

The purpose of the document is to codify the type of training, the general facilities, supplies, personnel and budget that will be needed to execute against the Career and Technical Academy. This document represents the initial phase of creating a Career & Technical Academy.

• 24 Training classes containing Employment/Wage Outlook information

The budget assumption is that Goodwill will fund the programs internally and just for the purposes of defining the scope of the investment. There are many ways to manage the budget including the use of volunteers, part time contract trainers, community partners conducting training at our site at their expense, sector employers volunteering time to teach sections of the classes and providing in kind donations of materials.

• First, filling out all of the employment outlooks for each class which included expected salaries, job titles and descriptions.

At the very beginning of this project, Lindsey split the project into sections.

training, materials, and salaries managed by TN Workforce Essentials Adult Education. This would also allow it to expand beyond just HiSET classes to teaching ESL classes as well.

• Second, building the class outlines of all the classes already offered at Goodwill. These classes were all the Google IT classes, the core construction class, call center, office productivity, and the HiSET class. We used the program overview documents in the shared drives as well as meeting with the program directors for each of these classes to build the outlines.

• Third, building the new classes to be introduced by reaching out to other Goodwill agencies that have similar classes. This included contacting them about their skilled trades classes, CNA classes, and logistics/warehouse courses.

Changes Over Time - Originally had an HVAC as a stand-alone class; then agreed to collapse HVAC into Facilities Maintenance.

• Fourth is the budget section. We used a summary budget outline to create a page for each class (within each of the 6 topics). Within the budget for each class, there are 2 pages that are the overall program detail and then the class assumptions. The detail includes all the employee benefits, per FTE costs, and everything on the assumptions page. The assumptions page then includes the staff needed to run the program, their salary, the duration of the class, how many classes per year, stipends, occupancy rates, and the room set up costs. At the end of each topic, there’s also an Overhead/Total Budget tab for all the programs under a topic. While this tab may vary from each topic, they will include any directors or managers that oversee all the individual programs, a recruiter, any supplies needed for all the programs to share, and a total cost of all the programs in that topic.

- Changing Transportation Management into Transportation Dispatcher/Coordinator. This is a much more feasible class to teach and is more practical for finding a job after the class. Changing Warehouse specialist into Warehouse Clerk. Much like the Transportation Dispatcher, this is a much more feasible and attainable position.

Adding Employable Skills Series class to all of the work skills classes provided. This also includes Work from Home, which we originally had as a stand alone HiSETclass.
