Because I was a Girl Scout... “I got to build a closer bond with my mother when she was my troop leader and now with my daughter as I lead her Daisy troop.”

“Whenever I moved, I signed on with the Girl Scouts, because no matter where I went, as a girl or an adult, I could be assured of new friends and familiar activities.”

“I made friends for life with a group of girls who I shared so many special moments with from 1st grade to middle school.”

“I earned my first real leadership role by pulling the title ‘President’ out of a cup at a Girl Scout troop meeting. Mostly shy until high school, my Girl Scout presidency seemed daunting, certainly not something for which I would have run. My confidence grew when our advisor, the late Beulah LaFollette, coached some of my best qualities out of me.”

“I learned confidence and character and how to make a difference.” 2

“I have had amazing opportunities for leadership sharing, development and to pass on my learning. Girl Scouts has been an amazing adventure for my entire family.” “The early jitters of Girl Scout camp faded into the first sunset as we grabbed each others’ hands in our first friendship circle and sang ‘The Friendship Song.’” “I learned to be a team player and support other girls in their efforts. I also was a leader and helped my girls do the same!”

“Because my mother was a Girl Scout … I learned that I was supposed to volunteer myself. … It is a nice change of pace, when someone tells you that your mother made a difference in their lives by caring enough to volunteer. As a volunteer, I have made a difference in these girls’ lives. I hope that in the years to come, someone will tell my children how I made a difference in their lives.”
