scared? Well, the glue and paper are actually food grade. Did you ever wonder why Greenland is covered in ice and Iceland is not? Well, it’s actually because the Saxons named the two countries the opposite to confuse the Vikings. Did you know that Puerto Rico did not sign the Versailles Treaty so they are still at war with Germany, and they have been since World War One.

NERD WARS

In this episode once again I, Beavy, and my player two, O-Bone, are debating which hero is better in the hit game League of Legends . This one’s competitors are mine: Ashe from League of Legends and Owain’s: Tristiana. Ashe is the infamous ice archer. She wields a bow and has many abilities that assist her marksmen skills with that sweet bow. These would include a spread shot of arrows, slowing arrows, a huge ice arrow, and many more. Tristiana can shoot exploding rounds that poisons the target and can jump extra long distances. Let’s put ‘em head to head. Ashe and Tristy are both long range. As he could freeze Tristiana but even when she’s slowed or even frozen she could hit Ashe and poison her. This goes to Tristiana. Next, we take awake their weapons and abilities. Both are just two girls who are just normal. This round goes to the both of them. O-Bone wins this one with 2-1. Nice! Request a new set in the yellow box outside the computer lab. GG!

Rick Riordan Rick Riordan mixes enough humor, suspense, and action to make his books/series worth reading. His three most popular series (in my opinion and in chronological order) are Percy Jackson & the Olympians (5 books; first book: The Lightning Thief), The Kane Chronicles (3 books; first book: The Red Pyramid), and Heroes of Olympus (5 books? first book: The Lost Hero). Rick Riordan currently lives in San Antonio, Texas (I think). He has won 12 awards. All three of those series listed above deal with mythology. Percy Jackson deals with Greek myths, Heroes of Olympus deals with Roman and Greek myths, and Kane Chronicles deals with Egyptian myths. Rick Riordan has a new series coming in 2015, this time, dealing with NORSE mythology so be on the look out. Other works includes three 39 Clues books, three stand-alone novels including Cold Springs; Son of Sobek and The Staff of Serapis. The Tres Navarre series, and The Demigod Files; Demigod Diaries; and Percy Jackson’s Book of Greek Gods (coming out August 2014). These are some books YOU can read over the summer.

The Big Bang: How the Universe Came Into Existence

Page 3

BANG! Out of the darkness, a sudden, bright explosion occurs. All the matter and energy that make up the universe today are released in the greatest explosion that ever happened in our universe. Everything is believed to come from a tiny point of condensed matter and energy. Much of the physics of this time remains a mystery. However, in recent times, a lot of information regarding the big bang, or as it should be called: “the everywhere stretch”, has surfaced. After a recent discovery of mysterious gravity waves, it is now believed that the Universe inflated at a speed greater than that of light. Now, what are these gravity waves you might ask? They can be thought of as ripples of the universe’s rapid expansion, not unlike the ripples created when you throw something into a pond or lake. Around this time, the universe was filled with energy and matter. However, it seems likely that, around this time, a roughly equal amount of antimatter was created. “But, what is antimatter?” Antimatter is a type of matter that, as its name seems to say, is the opposite of regular matter. Antimatter particles have the opposite charge as their respective regular particles do. Also, when antimatter and matter meet, they annihilate each other in an explosion of energy. Fortunately for us, however, there was more matter than antimatter in our primitive universe. After a massive, explosive battle, only matter was left. This matter became the universe we know today. If there had been an equal amount of matter and antimatter, we wouldn’t be here right now; I wouldn’t be writing this article, and you wouldn’t be reading it. Yet, the formation of the universe wasn’t over. As the universe began to cool, simple atoms of hydrogen, helium, and a tiny bit of lithium formed. Much of this hydrogen blocked light from passing through. The universe became opaque, entering the universal dark ages. The universe remained pitch black for millions of years. There was light, of course, and perhaps invisible stars as well. But, all light was captured by these neutral hydrogen atoms. But, around 400 million years after the big bang, light began passing through the universe again. Somehow, the neutral hydrogen atoms had lost one of their electrons, becoming ionized. This allowed light to pass through the universe. From that point on, light passed freely through the hydrogen plasma. “But, what caused this re-ionization?” It is believed the universe was re-ionized because of sources of immense radiation and energy. The largest producers of energy we know about range from powerful gamma ray bursts from massive dying stars, to quasars, luminous emissions of energy from black hole as they consume matter. Together, these sources of energy are believed to have re-ionized the universe, creating the universe we know and love today. -Lucas Lawrence JOKESWhat do you call a bee having a bad hair day?——— A Frisbee What did the policeman say to his stomach? ———- You’re under a vest!
