View From...The Gaffer One of the reasons we all love football is it's unpredictability. After a brilliant run the last two weeks have been torturous. The Uni were the best side we've played all season and we didn't respond. The cup game was different. With all respect to my former club I still think they are an average side that were simply more ready to do what it takes. But at times like this perspective is crucial. I've seen too many managers and players throw the baby out with the bath water after a couple of bad results. We won't do that. We've got team and playing principles that have served us well and we'll stick to them. We have a healthy lead at the top of the division and provided we stick together, work hard and believe in ourselves then we'll achieve the goal. We aren't complacent at all there have been some frank words said among the players and by me behind closed doors. That has to be balanced with the fact that we'd have taken this position at the beginning of the season in a heart beat. We appreciate you support. It's a time form encouragement between the everyone around the club. Here's to the right performance and result.

View From...The Stands Good afternoon and welcome to Purvis Park for today’s Northern Alliance First Division match between Percy Main Amateurs and Hexham, we would like to welcome all those associated with our visitors today, hope they enjoy their time with is and have a safe journey home after the match. It’s safe to say that our last 2 games against Newcastle University and Lindisfarne have been very disappointing especially by the standards which have been set by our side this season and we deserved everything that we got from those games – nothing! Last week could have provided our passage into a cup final, but it wasn’t to be, Lindisfarne proved worthy winners and good luck to them in the final, when they take on Ponteland United, here at Purvis Park (ironically) on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4th. Hexham will be another tough nut to crack, having beaten both Cullercoats and Newbiggin during their last 2 games by the same 2-1 margin, We won 1-0 at Wentworth Park back in November, but it took an 85th minute goal by Jorge Bollado on his debut, following his switch from Forest Hall to claim the points, while Hexham went on to hit the post after that. The Gods were smiling on that day, hopefully they’ll do the same today! Next week we travel to Newbiggin in a top of the table clash, first v second and it would be great to get a bit of support along there for the lads, so if you’re at a loose end, check the club’s website for directions at the back end of next week and we’ll see you there! Today we hope to reveal a new ‘main sponsor’ in ADS Aircon Ltd from Wallsend, who will bear their name across the team’s strips for the next couple of seasons at least. A very big thank you to Tony Short from Aircon for setting up the deal which will take the club forward in the coming months and years. You will be seeing a lot more about the company at Purvis Park and on the website in the near future, so please support our sponsors when at all possible.

Previous Match Report Pt1 Saturday 21/02/15 | Bill Gardner Trophy | Lindisfarne CP 3 Percy Main 0 Although pre match favourites to win the game, Percy Main put out what was undoubtedly their poorest performance of the season against Lindisfarne CP at The Rising Sun Welfare and went out of the  competition at the semi final stage against a more determined home side who will now face Ponteland United in the final, which will ironically be played at Purvis Park on May 4th. The Main, despite leading the Northern Alliance First Division table since the start of the season, haven't found cup competitions to their liking, having exited the Northumberland Senior Bowl, League and Combination cups at the first hurdle and extra time was needed to see off Whitburn who were also lower ranked opposition in the previous round of the Bill Gardner trophy, while Lindisfarne who are pressing for promotion from the second division clearly fancied their chances. The biting cross field wind threatened to have an impact on the game, but the home side were first to adapt as Liam Mulligan won a corner and from Ross Seaman's flag kick, Pete Lowery saw his header tipped over by Rob Rodgerson in The Main goal. Little was seen of The Villagers attacking intentions as a couple of free kicks lofted into the area by Davey Surrey were easily dealt with by the Lindisfarne back 4, who had a sterling game throughout. The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute as Grant Richardson beat the offside trap and finding himself one on one with Rodgerson, saw his first effort foiled by the goalkeeper, but the home forward managed to bundle the ball home from the rebound, any offside claims were brushed away by the officials. The start of the second half saw Dan Sneap make ground down the right, but Graham Allen blazed over for Percy Main, while at the other end a defensive lapse presented Michael Hedley with a great chance to double Lindisfarne's lead, but Rodgerson made a vital save to keep his side in the game. The Main pressed around the hour mark as Sneap produced a mazy run into the area, but his shot was easily dealt with by Andrew Toothill in the home goal, while Allen again was off target from Ant Ridley's left wing cross. Perhaps if either of those half chances had have counted things may have been different, but when Lindisfarne's Jonny Storey laid the ball off to substitute Mark Wilkinson who curled a low effort inside Rodgerson's far post on 65 minutes, it seemed as though the game was in the bag for the home side. The Main's woes were compounded 8 minutes later as they committed themselves and pushed forward. The ball broke and Lindisfarne's front line raced clear and finding themselves 3 against 1, a neat interchange between Seaman and Steven Thompson, was finished off as Seaman fired home to give the home side the victory that they deserved.

Previous Match Report Pt2 Saturday 14/02/15 | Northern Alliance Premier Division | Nile Uni 4 Percy Main 1 Percy Main went down to their first away league defeat since the 2-1 reverse at Birtley St Joseph's back on November 1st and only their third all told in the Northern Alliance First division this season and on the balance of play could have no complaints at the end result as Newcastle University deservedly took the points. The home side made the early running as Jordan Cross fired an angled drive into the side netting and took the lead on 10 minutes as Cross made ground down the right and saw his shot parried by Reece Dobie in the Main goal and Walker following up, slotted home. There was a suspicion of offside as Cross received the ball, but the visitors appeals were brushed away by the referee. James Golby for the University fired just past the post and The Main's Graham Allen made a timely challenge on Walker before Cross was forced to leave the field injured. Percy Main's first threat came as Davey Surrey found Chris Laidlaw who went close, but a minute later parity was restored as Joe Betts touched on to Allen who this time made a telling contribution at the other end with an exquisite chip over the head of Dan Readman in the University goal. The Villagers had a let off as Alex Ames miscued when in the clear, while at the other and an exchange of passes between Jorge Bollado and Betts, saw Bollado fire just wide and Betts appeals for a penalty went unheard just before the interval. The second half undoubtedly belonged to the home side, while The Main uncharacteristically rarely posed a threat. Bryn Tennant fired just wide for the University and Spyros Komadromados who had earlier replaced Cross, saw his right wing free kick touched behind and was a constant threat down the flank. Further action in The Villagers final third saw Pete Mairs head over, while Redmond Cockburn was fortunate to escape without a card following a foul on Komadromados, but the students regained the lead on the hour as Thomas Espin and Ames combined down the left to square for Walker who fired home from the edge of the area. Worse was to follow for Percy Main as Dobie saved a low drive from Walker, but the home centre forward completed his hat trick on 73 minutes with a great turn and shot which gave the goalkeeper no chance. The closing stages saw Betts fired just wide for The Main and Adam Green worked hard down the right, while in reply Ames rattled the crossbar and Robbie Sweet spurned a good chance, but Walker completed the scoring 3 minutes from time.

Breaking News From Percy Main As we enter the closing stages of the season it’s safe to say that the football played over the past 7 months has been impressive, if someone had made me an offer in August that we would be sitting with a record of P20 W16 D1 L3 in the league I would have snapped their hand off. Richard, Danny and Dave have assembled a squad who not only produce the goods on the pitch but also value the club and each other off the pitch. As I’m sure everyone is fully aware the football that is played is only half of what keeps a club going and I’m pleased to say that a relationship has been forged which will have a huge impact on how things progress off the pitch. I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that we have a new Club Sponsor in the form of ADS Air Con. Tony Short Managing Director of ADS Air Con has dedicated his time to all aspects of local football from playing through coaching and most recently having been Chairman of Longbenton FC. Tony has taken up various sponsorship opportunities with the club as you will see at todays game including new strips and advertising boards. Fingers crossed the football on display from the lads today will look as good as the new Kit! Welcome on board Tony & ADS Air Con

A BRIEF HISTORY OF PMAFC Percy Main Amateurs were formed in the 1919-1920 season by ex servicemen returning from World War 1, playing in the Northern Amateur League and finished their first season as league champions, also lifting the Northumberland Minor Cup - the ground was then known as Middle Row Park as reference to three sets of cottages on the site, Low Row, Middle Row and High Row.

The club also won the Championship on 4 consecutive seasons between 1925-1928. During the 1929-30 campaign, Percy Main reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Amateur Cup, defeating then notable opponents Cleethorpes Town, Rawmarsh Welfare and Yorkshire Amateurs before going down to eventual finalists Bournemouth Gasworks Athletic - this game produced The Main's share of the gate as a huge £105, 12 shillings and 9d!

Between 1931 and the War years the club played in the Tyneside Senior League before rejoining the Northern Amateur League.

The Villagers subsequently joined the Northern Alliance in 1968 and enjoyed Northumberland Amateur Cup success in 1968,1970 & 1971 also lifting the Northern Alliance League Cup by beating Bedlington Terriers at St James Park the following season.

In 1978 The Villagers won the Northumberland Senior Bowl for the first time with a 1-0 win over West Allotment at North Shields Appleby Park ground.

The Northern Alliance League Championship was won in consecutive seasons 1981 and 1982 while the club finished runners up in 1983.

Percy Main were relegated to Division 1 in 1992, but were promoted as champions in 1998-99 and the club went on to lift the League Cup in their first season back in the top flight.

In 2004 The Villagers ended their Premier League season in fourth place and won the Northumberland Bowl once more, defeating Cramlington Town at Whitley Park, but two years later the team were relegated.

The Village Ground was renamed Purvis Park in 1996 in recognition of 50 years dedicated service by the late Alan Purvis as player, secretary and chairman.
