BRIEF

BRIEF: To create the brand and name for an art gallery to be featured in a hospital that has the impact to generate positive news, discussion and interest in the concept.

The Art Gallery will tour around hospitals in the UK, and will feature some of the UK’s most famous artists. It is a chance for patients to look at something other than the same four walls. The gallery is also a calm and positive place for times of reflection and inspiration.

NAME AND LOGO

For the gallery name I chose Serendipity, it means to come across something pleasant which the gallery will be a peaceful, pleasant retreat for the hospital’s patients. This will be the logo, the font is New Gardem which is a modern, rounded sans serif font, and the decoration on the letter ‘n’ . The logo features coloured circles like a minimalist artist palette, or it could be seen as a reference to Damien Hirst’s spot paintings.

These posters will be displayed around the hospital, the first idea will be posted on the door to the ward while the gallery is being installed, this familiarises people with it as they pass by. It will hopefully intrigue people, wondering what kind of transformation will be going on, but the word serendipity suggests something good. The next two posters are to be displayed around the hospital when the gallery is open, again, the posters aren’t very explanatory, as the curiosity will lead people there, the words; relax, reflect and enjoy will hopefully encourage patients to go, especially those who are extremely fed up and down. The third poster suggests an art gallery. These are 420mm x 200mm and on a matte stock.

EXHIBITION

This is the gallery’s exhibition, Cynosure. It means the focal point of admiration which fits really well with the function of an art gallery. The logo is the text and bar code - the reason for the bar code font it because of what it means, it is simply a visual that contains lots of information about a product, and the art work is a visual that contains a number of messages. This will be the design for the poster outside the gallery, and postcards distributed throughtout the hospital, there will be no poster advertising around the hospital as this may be confused with the Serendipity advertising.

BOOKMARKS

Considering what patients have and do in hospital, it made sense to promote the gallery through bookmarks, as many people do take in reading material when staying over in hospital. It seemed more useful than making a leaflet, as the bookmark not only serves its function of saving the page last read, but it promotes the gallery. They are 140mm x 40mm and on the same matte stock as the other resolutions.
