PCC’s WOMAN OFSUBSTANCE

Order of Long Leaf Pine Awards

Pitt Community College students and employees celebrated Women’s History Month on March 14 with an event themed “Women’s Education...Women’s Empowerment.” As part of the college’s women’s history celebration, PCC recognizes a female employee with the “Woman of Substance Award” for outstanding campus and community involvement, attitude of service, commitment and caring, and willingness to ‘go the extra mile.’ This year’s “Woman of Substance Award” was presented to Marguerite Parker, an English and communications instructor. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she is an academic advisor and student club advisor for the college’s Student Government Association and Circle of Sisters Club. “The biggest honor was knowing that students had also spoken up on my behalf,” Parker said. “While I think I’m pretty fun to have as an advisor, admittedly, I have a pretty ‘tough’ reputation as an instructor. I’m glad to know they still appreciate me.” In addition to Parker, this year’s “Woman of Substance Award” nominees were Patricia Adams, Kathy Carnes, Hope Clark, Alison Flowers, Betty Foreman, Donna Gibbs, Kay Gooding, Sue Jefferson, Allison Knox, Jamelle Moore, Dana Parker, Ashley Smith, Starlette Vaught, Kim Waters and Eleanor Willard. 4
