his is a very exciting year for WinterPRIDE as we mark a couple milestones. 2014, is the 3rd year the municipality of Whistler has proclaimed Pride Week and bestowed official civic status for the festival, it also marks the fourth anniversary of a global movement that began here in Whistler with the creation of Pride House at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Even though a Pride House in Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games has been ruled illegal by the governments the awareness for LGBT human rights has never been so top of mind. Throughout the week of WinterPRIDE we will celebrate those accomplishments and will continue to defend and advocate for our global equal rights. New this year at WinterPRIDE is the inaugural WinterPRIDE YOUth 2014 - a day designed for gay youth and their alliances to come together to celebrate diversity and community through workshops, film and play! This one day event will lead to multi day events in future years, and this year’s participants will be the voice for YOUth, letting us know what they would like to learn, see and do. The festival is excited to welcome two incredible guests from the Southern Hemisphere - COURTNEY ACT, RPDRS6 + Australian Idol finalist and CHRIS OLWAGE, Mr. Gay World 2013 + New Zealand’s Got Talent finalist to the Mr. Gay Canada Grand Finale & Fashion Show. It is going to be a must attend event of WinterPRIDE as eight incredible men vie for the title and right to represent the nation in Rome, Italy at Mr. Gay World. WinterPRIDE is honored to welcome a new partner to the festival, BIG ROGER EVENTS, Sunil Sinha as the new entertainment director. He has been working hard to give you the best possible experience with some of the hottest DJ’s on the club circuit including DJ PAULO (LA) + DJ QUEST at the Vancouver GLITTER opening party Jan. 25; DJ PORNSTAR (LA) at the SPLASH Pool Party Jan. 30th; DJ SETH COOPER (Chicago) at the WhiteOUT party Jan. 31st; NICK BERTOSSI (Vancouver) at the Furrocious Party Jan. 31st; IVAN GOMEZ (Barcelona) + DJ Phil B (San Francisco) at the Snowball closing party Feb. 1st; and finally DJ LISA DE LUX + DJ KASEY RIOT tag team the women’s closing party WOW! Feb. 1st. Needless to say it is going to be a fun filled week! For a complete list of talent refer to page 31 of this guide. We hope you are able to get out and enjoy the 8,171 acres of pure skiing bliss with the new Harmony6 on Whistler and Crystal Ridge Express on Blackcomb helping to make the high alpine even more accessible with shorter lift times. s Premier of the Province of British Columbia, it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to the 22nd Annual GayWhistlerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s WinterPRIDE Festival.

British Columbia is known for the great diversity of our communities and for the harmonious atmosphere we are so fortunate to enjoy. Events like WinterPRIDE not only help foster inclusion, but also raise awareness of the adversity the LGBT community still faces in many parts of the world today. British Columbians are proud of our welcoming reputation and embrace opportunities such as this to come together in celebration, while promoting equal rights of all our community members. I would like to extend my thanks to all those whose efforts have made this Festival come to fruition year after year. The work you all do benefits the community, both socially and economically, and is a wonderful contribution to our province. Letter from the Mayor JANUARY 2014 Dear WinterPRIDE festival participants,

n behalf of council and the Resort Municipality of Whistler, I would like to welcome you to Whistler for the 22nd annual WinterPRIDE festival.

Thanks to GayWhistler, WinterPRIDE has become an iconic annual event that adds to the vibrancy of Whistler in the winter season. In 2013, the eight-day WinterPRIDE festival welcomed 3,000 guests from 26 nations and hosted 65 different events. We are proud that this is also the fourth anniversary of the Pride House movement that began in Whistler for the 2010 Olympics Winter Games. GayWhistler supported the initiative to show the world how welcoming Canada, British Columbia and the communities of Vancouver and Whistler are in celebrating diversity, while at the same time openly discussing homophobia and transphobia in sports. Whistler embraces the diversity that the LGBTT community represents. The municipality is committed to working with community partners to continue making Whistler an inclusive mountain resort. While you are here, we hope you have a chance to explore Whistler Village and its diverse restaurants and shops, Whistler’s spas, and many of the outdoor activities that Whistler has to offer from skiing to snowshoeing, and ziplining. I encourage you visit some of Whistler’s 2010 Winter Games venues, including the Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Olympic Plaza. During the winter months, Whistler Olympic Plaza is transformed into outdoor ice skating rinks. Experience one of Canada’s favourite recreational past times in the heart of Whistler Village. For something a bit different, check out our museum, library or Meadow Park Sports Centre. We are fortunate to live in Whistler. It’s an active community with world-class facilities, access to nature, endless recreation opportunities and a growing arts and culture scene. Here are a couple examples: Sight See on Whistler & Blackcomb – Ride the Whistler Village Gondola and then take the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for a bird’s eye view of these massive mountains, take in one of the culinary or wellness seminars, go dog sledding or fly through the forest like a Jedi Knight or Indiana Jones with SuperFly Ziplines or luxuriate in one of the spas. Why should we book through your official booking channel? This is one of the only tools we have available to give accurate numbers to our resort partners in the success of the festival and ensure the continued value we are able to give to you, the consumer. The alternative to this is diminished support as it is unclear who is actually staying for the festival which may result in higher future costs and ties our hands as organizers what we can ask for in the future. There is the lowest price guarantee so you can be assured you are getting the best rate available.

Why does WinterPRIDE limit capacity and venue hours? British Columbia has some of the most strict liquor laws in North America. Every year WinterPRIDE has to apply and negotiate with the various government bodies which set limits to capacity, venue usage, hours of operation and type of entertainment.

Why are the liquor prices so expensive? The resort and the government of British Columbia sets a minimum price drinks are allowed to be sold at. The venues keep 100% of all bar sales. WinterPRIDE’s source of revenue is through ticket sales & sponsorship only.
