We kunnen er niet omheen: 2020 is een uitdagend jaar. Maar Gaudeamus heeft nog nooit teruggedeinsd voor uitdagingen. Al 75 jaar maken we ons hard voor muziek die, alle hokjes en genres voorbij, geschreven en uitgevoerd wordt door jonge muziekpioniers die zich nog moeten bewijzen. Die mijlpaal vieren we dit jaar van 9 t/m 13 september met een spannend programma vol vernieuwende muziek en voorstellingen die creatief omgaan met de beperkingen in deze corona-tijd. Met bijvoorbeeld een improvisatieconcert in de natuur, een intieme voorstelling zĂłnder performers op het podium en natuurlijk veel online evenementen, waarvoor we jonge makers de opdracht gaven gloednieuw werk te maken speciaal voor deze tijd. We can't get around it: 2020 is a challenging year. But Gaudeamus has never yet shied away from challenges. For 75 years we have been making the case for music which, beyond all genres and pigeonholes, has been written and performed by young music pioneers who still have to prove themselves. We are celebrating that milestone this year from 9 to 13 September with an exciting programme full of innovative music and performances that deal creatively with the restrictions in this era of corona. For example, with an improvisation concert in the open air, an intimate production without any performers on stage, and of course many online events, for which we commissioned young makers to create brand-new work especially for today. Composer, guitarist and instrument builder Aart Strootman won the Gaudeamus Award in 2017 and presented his ambitious performance W.A.L.L in 2019. For this piece he designed an impressive 21m² marimba, which he himself built. His good friend, filmmaker and actor Dries Alkemade followed Strootman during the production process like a ‘fly on the wall’.
