Swim Lessons


Session 2 Begins June 25th June 24th -27th and July 8th-11th Weather make-up dates: July 21st, 22nd, 23rd Session 3 Begins July 28th July 28th – Aug 1st and Aug 4th –6th Weather make-up dates August 11th, 12th, 13th

We will offer 3 morning Summer swim sessions Tuesday through Friday. Summer swim begins June 3rd. Classes are taught in 3 levels, each class builds on the skills taught in the previous class. Due to the popularity of our swim classes it is recommended that you sign up for all 3 sessions when you register. Class sessions fill up quickly. Swim Session Registration: Registration for Summer Swim Sessions, begins May 1st. Registration must be done in person at the Student Recreation Center front desk. Registration and liability forms with $10 (non-refundable) registration fee per session must be turned in at time of registration. Final payment must be made on the first day of class. All fees must be paid by cash or check (made out to USA) only. Online registration and credit card payment is not available at this time.

We would like to welcome Children ages 5-12 to come and join the Campus Recreation Aquatic’s Team this Summer. Splash week is open to all children of the Student Recreation Center, USA Faculty/Staff, and USA Affiliates We are going to have lots of fun “splashing” around in the leisure pool, playing with water toys, participating in fun pool games, and learning about summer safety. Please bring a snack, towel, sunscreen, and a water bottle each day! You must preregister for each Splash Week! To register turn a registration and liability for with a check (written out to USA) or cash to the front desk. Cost: SRC Members $85 & Non Affiliated Members $110

4 of July Fireworks Paddles Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures for a Fourth of July Fireworks Paddle in Mobile Bay next to Battleship Park on Friday, July 4th. This is an easy, fun paddle and a great way to see the fireworks display at Battleship Park. Drive with us as we leave the Student Recreation Center at 7:30 p.m. or meet us on the Causeway. We will put in from the Causeway around 8:00 p.m. and take about 30 minutes to paddle our canoes and kayaks about one mile to USS Alabama. Battleship Park is where the city sets off their fireworks in the evening; we will have a spectacular view beneath this beautiful display as we sit in our boats. Cost (per person): $10 for students/one family member, $15 for staff/faculty/alums

How to Sign Up

Leave a check for the full amount payable to “U.S.A.” (sorry, no cash) along with your name(s) and cell phone number(s) at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. We will call you to confirm your place on the trip along with more information. We will accept registrants until day prior to trip. Fee is non-refundable within 3 days of trip UNLESS we can replace you or trip is canceled (rain or flooded river). Checks will not be deposited until completion of trip; if trip is canceled, all fees will be refunded.

Black Creek is Mississippi’s prime example of a coastal black water stream. We will run the 20 mile stretch from Moody’s Landing to the Fairley Bridge Landing in DeSoto National Forest. This section has been designated as a Wild and Scenic Stream because of its’ scenic qualities and remoteness

We will leave Campus Recreation at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday and drive two hours to near Brooklyn, MS. We will paddle about 10 miles the first day and then set up camp on a beautiful white, isolated sandbar. Finish the paddle on day 2 by around 2:00 p.m. and return to Mobile around 5:00 p.m. Cost: $35 for student, $37 for family member; $40 for faculty/staff/alum, $42 for family members, $50 for all others. Fee includes transportation, canoes, kayaks and all camping gear and cooking items. Does not include food. Pre-Trip Meeting: Wednesday, July 3, 8:00 p.m., Student Rec Center. July 12 Saturday Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures for a Full Moon Paddle on Mobile Bay on Saturday, July 12. We will depart from Scott’s Landing on the paddle up the Blakeley River, and then dip into surrounding waterways and head into Justins Bay. We will pass by alligators, jumping fish, and other “creatures of the night.” In Justin’s Bay, we will tie up the canoes and kayaks on the water and have a picnic dinner as we gaze at the stars and of course watch the gorgeous “moon over Mobile” rise in the sky. Meet at Scott’s Landing at 7 p.m. We will put in around 7:30 p.m., paddle for two to two and a half hours and return around 10:00 p.m. (Let us know if you need a ride).

Full Moon Paddle Cost: $10 for students, $12 for family members; $15 for staff/faculty/alums, $17 for family members, $20 for non-USA. We will supply kayaks and canoes and transportation, you supply dinner and flashlights. Sepulga River Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures as we paddle the Sepulga River on Saturday, July 19. This is a 6.8 mile four hour paddle along 5 – 10 foot high banks lined with thick brush and forest including hickory, dogwood, magnolia, and longleaf pine trees. Black-eyed Susans add color to the banks and reflect brilliantly off the muddy brown water. Blue herons and a wide variety of woodpeckers will be spotted. Besides long, peaceful stretches of float time, there are numerous shoals and some nice Class 1 rapids. Due to the length of the trip, this trip is not recommended for beginners. We will leave the Recreation Center at 7 a.m. and drive 2 hours to Evergreen, Alabama. We will put in around 10 a.m., eat lunch on the river, and finish around 2 p.m. We will arrive back in Mobile around 5 p.m. Cost: $25 for students, $27 for family members, $30 for faculty/staff/alums, $32 for family members, $35 for non-USA. Fee includes transportation, canoes, kayaks and accessories. Does not include food (we will provide coolers). Trip Limit: maximum of 14, minimum of 8

Appalachian Trail & Nantahala River JUlev

July 26 – 28

Saturday - Monday Come join Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures for Whitewater Paddle on the Nantahala River and Camping/Hiking the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina to celebrate the end of summer school in Bryson City, NC. The Nantahala River is a Class I, II, and III whitewater river. Our full river trip will be 8 ½ miles and last 2 ½ hours. A second run for half price will be optional. The river is dam controlled, thus assuring us of a great ride. Olympic competitors will train on this river, though it is considered family friendly. You can run the river in a two person “funyak” (a raft like 2 person kayak) or a one person funyak. Google “Paddle Inn Rafting Company” for pictures and complete trip information. We will also hike the Appalachian Trail with spectacular vistas of the Smokies and camp 3,000 feet above sea level. Day 1 – Meet at Recreation Center at 2 a.m.; leave at 2:30 a.m. Drive 8 hours to an entrance to the Appalachian trail. Hike two miles to Wersar Bald fire tower for an unbelievable view of the Smokies. Set up camp and play for remainder of day. Day 2 – Break camp at 8 a.m. Drive 8 miles to the Paddle Inn. Begin full river trip at 10 a.m. Lunch. Take 2nd river trip or sightsee/hike. Set up camp in evening (showers will be available). Go out for dinner or eat around campfire. Day 3 – Break camp at 9 a.m. and return to Mobile around 7 p.m. Pre-trip meeting: Thursday, July 25, 8 p.m., Student Recreation Center. Sign forms, discuss trip, weather, clothes, food, gear.

Cost: students: $65, family members $67; staff/faculty/alums: $70, family members $75, non-USA: $85. We will supply transportation, camp fees, and all camp/backpacking gear. You need to pay Paddle Inn $20 for a tandem kayak, $28 for a solo kayak, and half price for a 2nd river run. You also need to supply food. Description: Based on the Insanity workout DVDs, this group fitness class focuses on maximum-intensity exercise and short rest intervals. Participants will learn how to put together a 30 or 50-minute Insanity workout. Includes certification course manual, instructor DVD, cueing sheet, and music.
