LIGHT MASTER:DAMIAN MCGILLICUDDY My uncle Brian started me off in photography. He’d take me with him when he went out shooting and to a 10-yearold he was as cool as cool was. Watching became wanting to do, so I saved up, got my first SLR and he showed me the difference between an f-stop and a bus stop. The biggest thing someone can do to improve their photography is to learn the fundamentals, understand the basics. Get firm foundations and build from there. A great camera helps, but you have to drive the equipment; it doesn’t drive you. The advantages of taking logistically light kit and still getting great results are hugely important to me, so I’m a big fan of the OM-D E-M1. The E-M1 has a feature called Colour Creator, which enables me to adjust the hue and saturation in the picture – the electronic viewfinder gives me immediate and accurate feedback, so it’s really stacking the odds in my favour.

“Taken at my seminar The Very Best of British, this shot mixes various sources to isolate the subject from the backgrounds and light both separately for effect.”
