GLADSTONE GOOD NEWS

Here is some good news submitted to The World Headquarters of

The Gladstone Good News Oh my God! The top 10 list is hilarious! I MAY be a Gladstonian. I’ve thought about picking off a pheasant from my office window. I would never do it, but the fact that it even crossed my mind probably counts. Sent in from K.T. in Dickinson referring to the May issue Are you still accepting photos of people skating? Sent in from A.M. in Gladstone referring to May issue Answer: Yes, please send in what you like. I can’t guarantee I will be able to put your photos in, but I will try. If I don’t post them right away I might post them in a future issue. Email is RileyHoneeInc@gmail.com

We are having a school reunion and car show, can we post information about this in the

Gladstone Good News?

Sent in from F.M. in Lefor

Answer: I don’t see why not. Send me what you have and I will try to work it in.

Thanks Haylee for sending in your photo of you and Bella. After seeing this great photo, I think in the next issue I will put Gladstonians with their pet pictures in. Send in a photo of you and your pet. And I will try to post it. Photograph by Haylee Wax

GLADSTONE GOOD NEWS

I want to answer a couple of comments and questions about the Gladstone Good News. First of all, the Gladstone Good News is just that - Good News! The reason for the Gladstone Good News is that it is a Pay It Forward magazine. This means that it is given out free of charge in order to make a positive statement about the people it touches. It’s not about the money, it’s about the kindness and positivity that it brings. It’s that simple. Advertising is also free. To have an ad in the magazine, all you have to do is to Pay It Forward to someone you do not know, and Pay It Forward with no expectations in return. If you choose to advertise, then all I ask is that you tell what you did, so that the Gladstone Good News can tell others. It’s not about the details, it’s about the action of making a difference. If you want to be anonymous about paying it forward that’s ok too. “Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.” Unknown

“I think about this often and try to live my life accordingly. I don’t want to be remembered as someone who constantly has a negative opinion about people or things. I’d much rather be remembered for encouraging and taking time to appreciate the differences whether it be talents, gifts, personality, ect. of others.” This is not my quote, but it says how I feel perfectly.

“Never forget that the purpose for which a man lives is the improvement of the man himself, so that he may go out of this world having, in his great sphere or his small one, done some little good for his fellow creatures and labored a little to diminish the sin and sorrow that are in the world.” William E. “Denny’s Ancestors”

The result of countless minutes of research. Below is a painting of David and Goliath, also in Denny’s family lineage. I guess you can’t win them all.

Turns out Denny is related to Napoleon. I see the resemblance. “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.”

Archeologists have come to the conclusion that indeed, the second from the right is Denny’s ancestor.

Our crack research team found that Denny’s ancestors moved to Japan for several years. They trained one of their sons in the Art of Sumo. He was known as “Little Mosquito.”

I plan on planting Iris, Hosta and Gladiola among other things in my Gladstone garden. These plants are very hardy and easy to take care of. As a rule I usually use red, blue and pink for color combinations. But this white iris is hard to pass on.

Gladstone Michigan: Woman saves husband from bear attack by hitting bear over the head with a shoot gun. The bear then ran away. The reason she used the shoot gun to hit the bear was because she didn’t know how to load the shells.

Gladstone Australia: A man was cited and fined $400.00 for doing donuts and making noise in a parking lot in Gladstone. He told the judge that he was trying to get a bee out of his car. Okay, I’ll buy that.

Sometimes I come across some things that just make me scratch my head. I found this. “Virginia is for Lovers” and under their Places to go and Things to do section they have this ad for a tank museum.

Maybe in some weird way it might be romantic…

Great News…Now, at the beginning of the Enchanted Highway you can visit Larry Praus’ The Pub. At the end of the Enchanted Highway you can enjoy Gary Greff’s Medieval Tavern. Gary Greff has created a new

tavern and retreat in Regent. Giving of his talents and hard work on the enchanted Highway project for over twenty years, Gary has now created a great space in the old Regent High School. Recently, nineteen suites were completed to go along with the great gym and now the Medieval Tavern. A restaurant is also on the way. Now you will be able to make the fun trip out and enjoy his castle theme retreat. I know I’m always looking for something new and this is it….give it a try.

Larry and crew are once again improving the menu, and trying new items. The Pub wants you to have a good time and enjoy good food at The Pub. Ask about their new sandwich, it’s very good. I also found out that if you like your beer cold and in a cold glass, they’ve got that too. Larry is making things better all the time. Larry takes great pride in what he does, and The Pub is no exception. Thanks Larry

GLADSTONE GOOD NEWS

Haylee Wax Gladstonian of the month Female ownership of farms in the United States has risen every year for the last fifteen years. It is estimated that at least 28% of all farms are now owned by women. In North Dakota that number is only 10%. The reason for the difference in North Dakota is that farming is more capital intensive. The type of crops that are grown in this region and the fewer number of crop varieties, results in higher equipment usage, thus greater capital is needed. Everybody knows Haylee Wax. She is outgoing, loves farming, family and is fearless. Women farmers should take notice of Haylee. She is going to make a difference. Quality and pride in what she does, is over the top, and she believes that will make her even more successful. Her father instilled a great passion in her for the farm life. Haylee is now in her mid twenties, and I love this statement that she made, “I have been to California many times, but I would rather go to a cotton gin or farm and watch their operation, than do that Disneyland crap.” Now that’s a hardcore farmer for you.

Bismarck State should be a four year program, they gave me hands on experience in what I needed to learn, and they were great. Haylee graduated from college and she will combine a degree with her experience to create a good life for herself. There is no doubt that she is a very motivated person. The Heart River meanders around their property and that is just fine by Haylee. Lefor is flatlander, God’s country, but flatlander. I think she likes the river more right now, but that might change. Haylee is like the river, she goes with the flow. One out of every twelve jobs in the economy is connected to the farm in one way or another. The family 1965 Chevelle

I know this is an earlier photo, but it is great in so many ways.

“I like to make stuff for the garden” Says Haylee. When she is not working or thinking about the farm she likes to make things out of wood. She meet a man she loves. She is doing what she loves. Life is good for Haylee Wax, she deserves it. Thank you Haylee

GLADSTONE GOOD NEWS Gladestone, West Dakota

Spike leaving out the door

Gladestone is a town where all the men are handsome and strong and the women are beautiful and smart. The dogs don’t bark or bite and every child is an angel.

Gladestone is a small town, but many people know about Gladestone. The town has quite a reputation among the surrounding towns. Some of the reputation is deserved, some not. The people in Gladestone see themselves as different, and sometimes they perpetuate the stereotype just because they can. Take Bob Park for example, he always seems to have everything under control, but there always seems to be this nagging sense that things aren’t always as they seem. “Gosh, we have been talking for two hours” says Bob, “I got to go.” Mary didn’t realize the time either as the café was empty the whole time. The two just got lost in their conversation. Mary jumps up

from the chair that she had been sitting on, a little embarrassed that she had gotten into such an intimate conversation with Bob. She likes Bob, but she has never really thought of Bob on any level other than a customer coming into the café. Now she felt somewhat vulnerable. “Well Hon, I got to get back to work,” turning her back to Bob and walking back to the long oak bar. “Okay Mary, see you later.” says Bob, feeling a little confused. Bob heads to the door and leaves into the bright sunlit afternoon. Spike heads down Layne street. Layne is an old established street, with large shade trees protecting the white clad houses and their finely trimmed lawns from the sun. He turns his head left and right looking and sniffing the air in both directions as he passes. The roses on the white picket fences mingle with the smell of grass and the scent of other dogs in the neighborhood.
