E E E Ob i t ua ry E E E Angelo Antonio Verdino, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away surrounded by family on June 18, 2014. A longtime Missouri City resident, and a member of the “greatest generation,” Angie was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was born 5-25-25, a date he always enjoyed giving, in Brooklyn, New York. Although he was a child of the depression, Angie was always optimistic throughout his life. He was FBI – Full Blooded Italian – a label he loved wearing. The middle of eleven children, he was the son of Francesco “Frank” Verdino and Antoinette Biscardi Verdino. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jameson Verdino. Married in December 1990, they enjoyed traveling the world together and loving life. Predeceased by his wife Gloria in 1988, Angie leaves daughters, Paula Krieger and husband Russ, Perri VerdinoGates and husband Michael, and stepson, Clifton Jameson Jones. Grandpa Angelo adored his grandchildren, Kelly Bell Landgraf, Steve Bell and wife Misty, Lauren and Gillian Gates; and great-grandchildren Mathew and Jackson Landgraf, and James and Ashlyn Bell. He is also survived by sisters, Katie Deluca, Vera Menna and Gloria Verdino; brother, Danny Verdino, as well as many nieces and nephews. His family circle was wide and includes so many others. He had many friends, and he treasured all of them – particularly members of the Exchange Club of Quail Valley and “the usual suspects” who are invited to serve as

VERDINO

honorary pallbearers. Angelo served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 – 45, and saw action both in the Mediterranean and the Pacific theaters. Enlisting at age 17, he became an ‘ace’ radio operator and joined the Admiral’s Staff for the latter part of the war. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945. His life was full of interesting work, and even more interesting play and travel. “He got to Texas as fast as he could.” Angie was a golfer and claimed to personally know every angle and green on the Quail Valley golf courses. His first and only ‘hole-in-one’

happened on his 82nd birthday. He was a member of the Quail Valley Men’s Golf Association from its inception, and served many years as a director of the Quail Valley Utility District. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Quail Valley, and the First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land. His cup of life “runneth over” and he left no regrets on this earth. Visitation will be on June 24th, 5-8 pm at First Presbyterian Church Sugar Land, 502 Eldridge, Sugar Land, Texas. A celebration of his wonderful life will be held June 25th at noon at the First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land with pastor and friend Dr. Fred Seay officiating. Angelo will be buried next to Gloria, the mother of his children. Burial with military honors will be at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, I-10 at Antoine, at 10 am preceding the celebration service. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to enjoy a reception-luncheon at the church fellowship hall and share pictures, mementos, and stories. The family requests memorial gifts be made to First Presbyterian Church, Sugar Land, 502 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, Texas 77478, or the Exchange Club of Quail Valley, c/o P.O. Box 1205, Missouri City, Texas 77459. The family is most grateful to the many kind caregivers, who helped him through the last two years of his life – most particularly Brenda Thibeaux; also Frances, Altus Hospice, Hospice Plus and the staff at Autumn Leaves Memory Care Home Riverstone.
