Vice President's REFLECTION Hello Monsters! Freshman year was the first year I joined Key Club. My sister told amazing stories about Franklin Key Club and those stories persuaded a timid person like me to join. During Club Rush, I walked over to the Key Club table and the Spirit head gave me a piece of candy. That spirit head later became one of my best friends in Key Club and we did a lot of community service together. He taught me community service was important and how I as a person, can give back to the community. As I walked into my first Monday meeting, the room was overflowing with people. I remember it being so crowded that I couldn’t even find a seat. The atmosphere wasn’t really what I was used to. I was that shy, introverted little kid that didn’t want to talk to different people but I hung in there. The meeting then started and I discovered how great Key Club was. On the PowerPoint, they displayed a lot of past events– which seemed very fun– and many future events for us to volunteer at. There was so many great opportunities to give back to the community. All these experiences eventually led me to enjoy Key Club even more and helped me develop leadership skills as well as inclusiveness and character building. In Service and Friendship, Sunny Hsu

Member of the Month

The next time you see Jasmine Wong, give her a congratulations, high five, or monstrous hug (or all three!) for being December’s Member of the Month! When this sophomore takes a well-deserved break from Key Club, she enjoys practicing martial arts as well as surfing the internet. But when she’s working hard in Key Club, Jasmine loves the leadership and friendship opportunities it offers. From her time in Key Club so far, her favorite event was Running for Rhett because it was a new experience for her. Jasmine believes “volunteering and community service is important because it is a way for me to give back to the community by helping others and preparing fun events for them. At the same time, I get to meet amazing new people at the events and learn new things.” This is Jasmine Wong’s first year in Key Club, and she regularly attends the weekly club meetings, division events, and service events. Taking initiative and actively serving her community, Jasmine Wong represents a true, dedicated, and caring Key Clubber. Thank you for your enthusiasm for serving and helping your community. Congratulations and keep up the fantastic work!" -Lesley Wong

Past Events|California International Marathon

The California International Marathon was a really cool experience. I had never worked at the sweat check before and it was kind of fun in all honesty. I also didn't know that very thin plastic could actually be a very warm blanket! (What we gave to the runners). Seeing Franklin High School students there at the event, not as volunteers, but as attendees, was a pretty surreal and unique experience as well. Today was a new day for me, I managed to learn and see a lot of things I had never seen before and I'm really glad that I signed up for this event. -Eileen Eto I want to ask you to pass on our sincerest THANK YOU to all members of the Franklin High School Key Club who volunteered at the California International Marathon Expo on Saturday and/or the California International Marathon on Sunday. Your club members are all hard working and polite students. It was our pleasure to have all of you help out at the marathon. I realize that many of the jobs you did were very unglamorous and downright dull at times. However they were all necessary to make an event of this size happen. We could not have done it without the Franklin High School Key Club. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! -Event Coordinator

Elk Grove Turkey Trot At 6 am on a frigid Thanksgiving morning, Key Clubbers came out to set up for the Elk Grove Turkey Trot. It was still pitch black outside. However, that did not deter us from setting up a water bottle station and setting up cones. When the sun finally came out, the event coordinators sent us to direct parking. It was loads of fun talking to Mike, Cindy, Andrew, and Tracy as we took turns holding the parking sign. -Pauline Tze

Just like any other KFH Clean-Up.. Not! Every time I come to the Kiwanis Family House, it's another marvelous adventure. On this visit, we were joined by members of Sheldon Key Club for this buddyclub event where we helped with various household tasks that support the families staying at the housing. Not only were we able to bond with our November Interclub partner, but we were able to make a difference in the stressful lives of the KFH families! Michelle Nguyen
