The stories of these five women prove that even when faced with cancer, it is possible to have courage, experience joy, keep believing, experience gratitude and to feel a great sense of hope. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada will be celebrating these stories of survival at its Light The Night Walk on October 5th in Kiwanis Park. Light The Night is a five kilometre walk at twilight where participants carry glowing lanterns as they walk along the river valley: red for supporters, white for survivors and gold for those walking in memory. Hundreds of people touched by leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma will come together as a community with their friends and family to pay tribute to those they have lost and those who continue to inspire us in their battles with cancer. It is a fun event for the whole family with food and entertainment, intended to

celebrate life and bring people together to walk towards a cure. Through sponsorship and donations, Light The Night raises funds for patient support services in Saskatoon and surrounding areas, as well as for vital blood cancer research. Thanks to fundraising efforts by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society thus far, there has been a lot of progress made with new treatments that are already saving lives. This is reason to be hopeful for an eventual cure, especially for the more than 100,000 Canadians currently living with or in remission from one of the many blood cancers. There are several ways to get involved in this year’s Light The Night walk in Saskatoon. Form a team with your coworkers or friends and family, make a donation, or volunteer. Go to www. lightthenight.ca for more information or to register. Mother Teresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a

stone across the waters to create many ripples.” On October 5th, you can make a difference by casting a stone and joining inspirational survivors, like Maria, Lesley, Laurie, Jill and Donna, as they help bring light to the darkness of cancer. FLS
