Tribute to Molvi Mohammed Laltopi of Labasa

I first met late Molvi Mohammed Laltopi, famous for his red cap. When I was bearly 17 years old at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jalsa Salana in Samabula, Suva. Wellread in Urdu and Arabic, the Molvi sahab left me a lasting impression of himself as a very kind and compassionate person given to explaining Islamic issues with exact sitations of the Quran and Hadith something I later tried to incopoate in my discussions as it made a powerful impact. A few years later I was posted as Police Proescutor in Lanaba and had the opportunity of visiting his elder son Mohammed Tahir and his family. By this time the Molvi sahab had left this materal world. On coming to USA, I learned that brotther Tahir sahab occasioanlly visited the Bay Area to see his elder daughter who was married to younger brother my very good friend Abdul Khan. I had a chance of meeting brother Tahir and his wife about ten years and had picked them up from from their daughter’s home in Dublim

for a dinmner with us in Hayward. It was heart-breaking for me to learn that the daughter had turned a Sunni and didn’t care much about the Ahamdiyya Muslm Community to which her drand father Molvi Mohammed Laltopi sahab passionately adhereed to and had anormous respect in the Ahamdiyya community. Since my first meeting some ten years ago it has been my goal to reach out to the ……… in keeping with the tradition of Prophet Jesus who was sent utno “lost sheep of ther House of Israel.” My responsibility to invite To those who were once Ahmadi Muslims and left the community for reasons of their own, I devote a special attention to them and try to reach out to them and nivite them back to the chosen Jamaat of Allah. Brother Tahir’s daughter occupies a special postion in my mind due to my admirartion for her grandfather As I had submitted at the dinner last Sunday at hosted by Abdul and Zareena Khan that in contrast to the Molvis who scream and shout and give fear-driven speeches, the Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is no Molvi. He is the Imam Uz Zaman, the Imam of the whole Muslim Ummah as part of the (Wa Akhreena Minhum) and as such his call is very unique, different and deeply appealing than what the Mullahs say. In effect the Mullahs have nothing to offer from Allah. The disctinction is that while the Mullahs are engrossed in calling

names and giving Islam bad name asa terrorist and violewnt faith, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s main mission is to connect us with Allah. He summarized his uniquer call in the couplet I recited last Sunday: ‘ ABH AAKE DEKH DAR PE HAMARE WHO YAAR HEY KIYA ZINDAGI KA ZAOK GAR WHO NAHI MILA LANAT HEY AYESE JINE PAR, GAR MEIN USSE JUDAH” You can knock on any door you like, you shall not find God only at the doorstep of the chosen Imam of Allah. The choice to accept or reject invokes divine intervention We always wiegh things out in our lives and give precedence to our material wealth and fame over spititual values as mark of succcess and mighty evidence of God being on our side as a result. The truth with regards of a heavenly Jamaat like Ahnadiyya Muslim Community, Muslims fall into two adversorial catogaries (1) those who oppose outrightly despite truths in the Quran and Hadith and (2) those having understood and accepted the truth then turn their heels on the Jamaat and begin opposing it. It is the second group that is in greater danger of divine chestiment for this group which is pretty much predetremined in the Quran and Hadith. ( Read the rest in the next issue. Thanks. Ahmadi Muslims Unite Hundreds of U.S. Lawmakers in a Call to Action to Address Rohingya Crisis in Burma 107 volunteers from over 30 states host Rohingya Muslim leadership at Congressional Caucus reception The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA received bipartisan support for its eighth annual “Day on the Hill.” The three-day event drew Community leaders from 74 chapters and over 30 states. Volunteer delegates, who were joined by Rohingya Muslim leadership, briefed over 200 U.S. Congressional offices on the Rohingya crisis in Burma. U.S. Representatives Jackie Speier (D-CA) and Peter King (R-NY), co-chairs of the bipartisan 32-member Ahmadiyya Muslim Congressional Caucus, also headlined a special reception attended by U.S. lawmakers, the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, members of the U.S. diplomatic corps (including the former U.S. Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom), faith leaders, policy expert and religious freedom advocates. Speakers emphasized the urgent need to intervene to stop the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya Muslim minority: Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), co-sponsor of H.R. 4223 (Burma Act) and a founding member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Congressional Caucus said: “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the conscience for religious freedom in America. His Holiness [the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community] has spoken in a clear and direct manner on the Rohingya crisis in Burma, and we should all take a page from his book.” “Through the Ahmadiyya Muslim Caucus, you have brought peace between Democrats and Republicans,” said Rep. Peter King (R-NY), “The human rights abuses of the Rohingya is morally wrong, is ethnic cleansing, and I stand with Ahmadi Muslims to stop it.”

“His Holiness [the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community] has said to Prime Minister of Canada, ‘All people should be granted true religious freedom and all people should have the right to peacefully practice their faiths and beliefs.’ That is true for Burma and everywhere,” said Rep. Raj Krishnamoorthi (D-IL). “Religious freedom is the most important human right,” said Kristina Arriaga de Bucholz, Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, “We applaud your Community for condemning the persecution of Rohingya Muslims. The situation in Burma is dire and largely ignored. When a group is suffering, all human beings are lessened unless we speak.” “The situation for Rohingya is beyond description because this is my home,” said Reza Uddin, Council Member of the Arakan Rohingya Union, “Over 13,000 have been killed, 330 villages have been burned and close to 1 million have crossed to Bangladesh. Most are women and children. Many have been killed or thrown into fire by Buddhist vigilantes. We have the moral duty to speak for this community, and yet the civilian leader Suu Kyi is denying there’s ethnic cleansing, and we had hoped she would do more.” “As a community that is persecuted ourselves, we are deeply grief-stricken at the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar,” said Amjad Mahmood Khan, National Director of Public Affairs for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, “We join the Ahmadiyya Muslim Caucus on Capitol Hill to ensure that Rohingya Muslims attain their basic human rights and freedoms.” About Ahmadiyya Muslim Community: Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans more than 200 countries with membership exceeding 160 million. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is among the first American-Muslim organizations. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the longawaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings. ###

Pakistani court orders list of people who left Islam

On Monday a Pakistani court ordered the country‟s national citizen database to handover list of individuals who left Islam and requested a change of religion with the department. The High Court court of Pakistani capital Islamabad ordered Pakistan‟s Citizen Authority (NADRA) to provide detailed information on an estimated 10,000 Pakistani citizens who are believed to have changed their religion from Islam to Ahmadiyya Muslims. The court also directed the citizen authority to include their age, names of their parents and their

international travel history in the list.During the hearing, the court was assisted by Hafiz Hassan Madni, a Professor at the University of Punjab, Lahore. Professor Madni told the court that a person who left Islam for another faith was an „apostate‟ and deserved a penalty for the act.Professor Madni further said: “Qadianis(Ahmadis) are more dangerous than infidels. They are neither Muslims nor Christians and in fact, they have covered themselves under Islam” Professor Madni also recommended that no nonMuslims should be made Judges. The order was given by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui during the hearing of a petition which dealt with the amendments in the ‘Khatm-e-Nabuwat„ clause of Pakistan‟s Election Act, 2017. The petition was

filed by Allah Wasya to challenge the amendments in the electoral law which would the right wing clerics claimed would have given more rights to the minority Ahmadis.Qadianis, formally known as Ahmadis are followers of the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam which is considered heretic by mainstream Muslims. In 1974 the Pakistani constitution was amended to declare the followers of the minority faith“nonMuslims”. The Islamic Republic has continued to persecute the Ahmadis with laws and regulations which criminalize their religious practices.Earlier this week, the same court barred NADRA from making any changes in the religion column on national identity cards of the Muslim citizens.
