What's A Woman To Do? MARITZA P. BROWN Alex Avery and Journey Moore's stagnant love relationships are unexpectedly tested when they each, upon happenstance, meet two men, who seem to incredibly possess all of the qualities the women seek in their perfect mates. Alex and Derek connect on every level to solidify the kind of relationship she yearns for, and, as time passes, he appears to be the man of her dreams. Derek, however, is keeping a secret from his past that may prove him to not only be too good to be true, but could sever the unique relationship Alex shares with Sway, forever. Journey and her husband Tiny own and manage a fi tness gym and live comfortably, and, on the surface, appear to be the picture perfect couple. Yet, behind closed doors, Journey is the helpless recipient of Tiny's verbal and physical abuse. When Journey starts to suspect that Tiny is being unfaithful, Journey decides that she has had enough. And, with the help of an enticing, sexy, younger man, Journey rediscovers her self-worth as well as her explosive sexuality. DEAR READERS,

Over the decades the definition of "Urban" has been shape shifted to fit the consumer and this may very well be the best way to get an understanding of the definition. It is culture, it is a time era of individual perspective and choice of voice, it is the sign of the time and the time that signs the era we are in. Let it not be mis-understood as a place, a person, or a thing because it is everything including the collaboration of the three. It is the city streets in which we live, love and exist. With that said let it be known that "URBAN GRAPEVINE MAGAZINE" will cover just that. This "Urban" magazine will be the voice of the people, for the people and by the people. Categories like; Proactive to Things Positive will be presented through provocative, informative, entertaining and even up for debate discussions, but more importantly, it will be our Urban Voices; a voice often unheard but now has a place to not only be heard, but understood. Author Felisha Bradshaw, Author Maritza P. Brown have set out to change the outlook of what is "Urban." The founder and co-founders of Let’s Talk Urban stand firm behind this project; "Urban Grapevine; The Urban Voice." Sincerely and Literary Yours,

If you could gather ingredients to cook up a meal, whip up a dessert or even mix-up a drink relative to

UGM:.As reviewers was it hard to figure out who you wanted to be in the Literary Recipe Book?

your personality what concoction would you come up with? What would be the key ingredient? The ladies of ARC Book Club Inc. are putting together their first publication available for January 2012. Normally their fortes are book reviews. I can only imagine how the great minds of ARC cooked up this concept of originality.

Were your first choices receptive to your proposals?

Literary Recipe consists of 19 authors of multiple genres challenged to write a in a different mode of expression, putting together tastes that will not only stimulate our senses; touch; our hearts and see the characters in a new light. As readers we will get to tickle our palette with original tastes of some of the most memorable characters. I can hear the raving reviews now. UGM: Writers of different genres coming together under one cover makes the cooking of a great read. How did the ladies of ARC Book Club come up with this concept? I’ve yet to hear of anything like this. ARC: Being “foodies” ARC members English & Shai wanted to compose a cook book. But as everything that ARC does focuses on the promotion of literacy and authors, we tried to think of an innovative way to include some book characters that we felt were memorable. There were only two types of responses from authors: 1.WOW, I never thought I’d be part of a recipe book. 2. Aww man, just wait until you see what I can throw down in the kitchen. As far as we know this is the very first “literary recipe book”. No other recipe or “cook book” has been done in story form or introduced by existing book characters.

ARC: Great question, lol. We each came up with 5 or 6 names (some were repetitive) of authors or book characters that stood out to us and hashed it out that way. Thankfully, all authors that were selected were able to contribute with the exception of one who regretfully, had too many things on her plate at the time. UGM: January 2012 is the release date, am I correct? What will the ladies of Arc have cooking up their sleeves to promote this book? Will you pull in local restaurants in your area? Or have a cook off? I think that would be a great way. As authors we do book trailers to promote our books. Will you be doing any form of video trailer of authors cooking it up? ARC: Yes, January 2012 it is. We are blessed to have the support of several publishers, authors and readers. A tasting/book release party will be held at Déjà vu Book Lounge in Spanish Harlem to celebrate the book’s release. Of course there will be samples of selected culinary treats from the book. We’re looking into possibly tying some local restaurants into the event. As far as book trailers, we have some ideas we’re putting into fruition, I think they’ll be quite effective! I can't wait. You girls have picked thee perfect spot for a release party. DEJA VU BOOK LOUNGE has the best atmosphere for this type of event. It has such a positive aura and Deborah Cardona is a great host.

UGM: Will there be another recipe book in the making? I sure would love in on your next adventure. I’m pretty good in the kitchen. I think my most memorable character Chase can whip up a meal for the yardies. ARC:LOL, I’m sure. Some authors have already expressed interest in being a part of book 2 if there is one. I do believe once readers grasp the idea of a literary cook book and experience book 1 there will be many readers who will want to see a character or author they know provide a recipe. If book 2 comes about, instead of having members select, we’ll up the ante so to speak and possibly have authors submit a recipe and have the ARC Review Panel select contributors that way. We’ll see. Wow, you guys give answers like the president. No real answers...so suspenseful. Great marketing plan, but there has to be something you're willing to reveal. UGM:I know you’re going to give us a sneak peek before you leave us. My literary taste buds can’t wait to savor the good eats my tummy is already on are on 350* (preheat). Give

If you read the books (1, 2, or 3 which recently became available), then you know Baby Girl tells it like it is, so just imagine! Author Karen E. Quinones Miller shares the ‘Honey Mustard Pork Chop’ recipe that her characters from her Essence Best Seller, I’m Telling, always indulged in. So there’s some interesting stuff in the book. I am very aware of JM Benjamin's talent. He recently uploaded a video of him reading his first book on You Tube. Yes Baby Girl is raw. So what comes to mind is sushi...just a guess. (ARC SILENCE) UGM: Quiet, huh? Can you give me three authors that will grace the pages of this Literary Recipe Book? Preferably three different styles of writing. Readers will be interested in knowing who they can look forward to in January. Oh yea, can the OFFICIAL Literary Recipe Book be pre-ordered? Will there be a mailing list sign-up to get news on up and coming literary works from ARC? ARC: Romance author Iris Bolling, Contemporary Fiction writer Karen E Quinones Miller, and Urban Fiction writer June Miller represent three different writing styles that will be found in the Official Literary Recipe. All information regarding book orders and future news from ARC Book Club Inc. will be available on our website: www.arcbookclubinc.com or

us a light snack ARC.

on our Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com groups/173730613352/

ARC: Each submission is original in its own way. Some authors took the comedic route, some were raunchy…we have recipes from paella to churros! I’ll give you this - JM Benjamin shares his “Ride or Die Chick” Salmon meal presented by Baby Girl from…Ride or Die Chick, of course.

Well. Readers get your blenders, pots and pans ready for the read of the New Year; The OFFICIAL Literary Recipe Book. I tried pulling an excerpt from these young ladies but it was a no go. Secrecy with a pinch of a hint will have to do. I am definitely intrigued. Are you?

Keeping it True Blue; Treasure Blue By: Felisha Bradshaw There’s a new publishing company in town welcoming the hottest new genre to there label as they do their artists. They also have the best unsigned hype since Def Jam found L.L. Cool J; Drake. I guess that’s a dead give away. You guessed it; Cash Money has embarked on taking on the literary industry snatching up some of the best authors through their publishing company; Cash Money Content. Ashley&Jaquavis, a tag team writing couple with 2x’s the content, Wahida Clark a vet in the lit game, the infamous, K’wan; the man who writes to eat and Treasure Blue A true artist of street lit. Some people think when rappers step into businesses they venture into the unknown but Urban Fiction is Hip-Hop fiction. CMC is walking on familiar ground and everyone who knows that they are serious money makers and money getters want to be on their team!

URBAN GRAPEVINE: The industry newbies and some vets want to know what did it take for a man of your writing statue to sign under a publishing company again? …Especially because you are a serious man about his self publishing game; that has said he would never go back under a publishing company? Treasure Blue: So, true, however, and to be totally candid with you, Cash Money Content is going to be the future in publishing.. It is prevalent as the nose on ones face that the publishing business as we once knew it has took a drastic nose dive because of the vast changes in technology such as (POD) Print On Demand and E-Books which makes it easier for anyone to be a bonifide published author within ones budget. Hell, I've read recently Amazon intends to even cut out an authors need to have a publisher all together. Cash Money Content, happens to be marketing geniuses, and tapped into something that no publishing house in history has done: taking it directly to their already built-in fan base, which is in the millions. Cash Money had already signed The Great Wahida Clark, The Dynamic Duo Ashley and JaQuavis, and Killer Kwan. These are the Crème de Crème of Urban Lit, and I would had to have a hole in my head to not see what Cash Money were doing. The publicity by association alone, with Baby, Slim, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Drake, give me millions in free pub alone. I never like short money, I like long money, so, I have to secure my future, and if I can reach more fans in the process, this would be a tremendous move for both parties involved.

Yes, I can see where Cash Money Content would be the best way to go. They definitely have the ideal target population to put Urban Fiction on the map once and for all. I am surely with you on the long money tip. I have learned through one of our colleagues; Stephanie Harper that books are a business. If you’re going to tap in on it, go for all you can. With writing and being an author it’s a job that is endless. Like Mase and Puffy said, “I tried to tell em that we won’t stop! I tried to tell ‘em that we won’t stop!” As a thinker and a hustler you saw the big picture and ran and got your supplies….I have to respect you for your skills and ability to smell out the money and the longevity in what you do. Game recognized game. URBAN GRAPEVINE: Its all over Facebook that you have a book coming out called; GET IT GIRLS. Being a true Treasure Blue fan, I know that these are the girls from your previous book. What direction are you going with GET IT GIRLS? Treasure Blue: Yes, Get It Girls are a small crew of Catholic school girls who are doing there best to secure a future and not become the very things that they saw growing up on the mean streets of their neighborhood in Harlem. But, in life, the only thing you can truly count on is the unexpected, and with one snap of a finger, one ill advised decision, can change your whole life in an instant. These are stories parents would want their children to read because they can learn valuable lessons. In fact, all my novels are written that way because I cannot stand banality. If I can't give my readers the pure, raw truth, I rather put down my pen, period. That just goes to show that there are lessons to be learned through Urban Fiction and shoots down the myth that Urban Fiction aka Street Lit, Hip-Hop Fiction is all about glamorizing the get money, shoot em up bang bang, drugs and sex lifestyle. I too believe that there is a lesson to be taught and learned in Urban Fiction and it needs to be told through everyone’s eyes. Street writers, the man that sits on your stoop, the barber shop crew (Old heads in the barber shops), your grandparents, teachers, theologists and the girl and boy who have seen it all, who had no voice before crafting their gift of writing. So well put Treasure. I guess that leads us to how you get your books into your readers hands.

URBAN GRAPEVINE: When it comes to book selling; you say sell yourself shamelessly; what will you be doing in the future with CMC and how will you go about selling your books now? CMC is by your side, so will you have to grind just as hard or have they lessened your load? Treasure Blue: Players, play, Ballers, ball and Hustlers, hustle, and I will always have that hustle mentality in me because it's just who I am. You’re talking to a person that has been selling things on the streets since he was seven years old. You are talking to a person that would buy hats, sock, panty hoses, make-up, leg warmers, etc, and take two brown shopping bags full of product, go inside Harlem Hospital to the top floor and work my way down selling these goods to Doctors, Nurses and even the patients and come out the building empty with bulging pockets. It was all I ever knew even back then. Hell, I never in my entire life, recall asking my own mother for a dime, because I always had some form of hustle, be it, packing bags at the supermarket, delivering newspapers, or working in a ice house delivering blocks of ice. Cash Money knew this about me, and offered me incentives that would allow me to continue how I do things, and I respect them for doing their homework on me before they reached out. It appears that you’ve been on the grind since you stepped into elementary school. There’s no way that the innate hustler in you will die. It just evolved and serves many purposes now. As a hustler one would think that you recognize hustlers; grinders in the lit game. URBAN GRAPEVINE: If you could recommend any author in the game to get a deal wit CMC who would it be and why? Treasure Blue: That's a great question and most authors would not answer it because they would like to save face with their author friends, but I'm not most authors, so my pick would be Eyone Williams and Traci Bee.

I have a heap of others, but, those would be, in my opinion, exceptional writers for Cash Money to take a look at. Hey, no shame in your game ever. You have been so true that no one should be or could be offended by your candidness. I am sure you do have others you’d put on that list but Eyone Williams and Traci Bee seem to be the top two. I have read Traci Bee’s work and wow, you picked a great one. I too agree that her writing game is exceptionally good stuff. Eyone Williams is downloaded on my Kindle already and is one of my next reads as well. You may even find him in January or February’s issue. Well folx; you heard it from the man of the hour; the man I love to call Big Brother Blue; a nickname earned because he looks out for the self published author, the potential author, the everyday author. He is a mentor and someone you can consider true family. Treasure Blue also started a group with Kisha Green called ALL4ONE AUTHORS-PROMOTINGAUTHORS. Numbers don’t lie, but it also has to do with the face behind the organization. Everything Blue touches turns to Gold.

THE MAN BEHIND THE BOOKS NOT THE CONTROVERSY If you are an avid reader then you're certainly no stranger to the iconic novels True To The Game I, II & III and the unforgettable saga of America's most infamous African American crime family; the Reigns family, of Deadly Reigns I, II, and III. These books are as memorable as the ground breaking novel; The Coldest Winter Ever, which paved the way for Urban Fiction in its early stages in the literary industry. Caleb Alexander is the literary genius behind the brilliantly written, New York Times Best Selling novels True to the Game II & III, as well as the trilogy; Deadly Reigns I, II, and III. He was also the pen behind Vickie Stringer's novels, The Reason Why, Dirtier Than Ever, The Boss, Red's Revenge, and Forever. He has penned some of the most popular novels in the African American literary industry. His writing is acknowledged unknowingly by millions, and now Caleb desires to be respected for his craft in his own name. He has begun his journey of carving out his own path, with a fresh start and a clean slate, and some brand new works; "Eastside" which was handpicked by none other than New York Times Best Selling author Zane, to launch her Strebor on the Streetz street lit line. "Two Thin Dimes" which was also published by Zane, and "Belly of the Beast" which he used to launch his own publishing company, Golden Ink Publishing. He has also just released a new novel titled "Just Another Damn Love Story," and is currently working on another new December release called "Baby Baller." This, while working on a collabo with non other than New York author Erick S. Gray. Can you say busy?

I was able to catch up with Caleb for a chat, and I had the opportunity to ask him anything. My first thought was to ask about him about his bouts in the industry with Terri Woods and Vickie Stringer, but I decided against it, because what is done is just that... DONE! I wanted to focus on today's Caleb Alexander and tomorrow's Caleb Alexander; the man behind the books not the man behind the controversy. So, I spoke to his heart and as usual, he answered with great passion.

URBAN GRAPEVINE: I am excited to meet you Caleb, I hope in the future it will be face to face. I have so many questions I want to ask that it's difficult to decide where to start. So, I figured at the end would be just fine, because as I see it, it's really the beginning for you, if that makes any sense. Lets talk about the Belly of the Beast, your latest novel. Where did you get the framework for this novel and is it relative to Caleb Alexander?

CALEB:

THE UNDERGROUND

A review of J. Cole’s entrance into the game By Marquis D. Goodwin

“There’s a [kid] right now somewhere. He at the table with a bowl of Apple Jacks and he reading the back of the cereal. And in between the Apple Jacks he writing some shit and he want my spot. I’mma find him though. I’mma sign him… I don’t want no problems.” The aforementioned was an excerpt from the, now well known, Jay-Z during the taping of the documentary entitled “Backstage” in 2000. The documentary followed a young Jay-Z along with various other artists at his headlining Hard Knock Life Tour. At that point it seemed the time when Jay-Z would pass the microphone to the next generation was a world away. But it was not quite a world away it just awaited a different world, a Cole world.

THE UNDERGROUND

Jay-Z signed Jermaine Lamarr Cole, better known as J. Cole, to his label Roc Nation in 2009 and after laying in wait for two years he has finally released his debut album, “Cole World: The Sideline Story.” J. Cole, Roc Nation’s first signing, released his debut album Sept. 27, 2011. The album was the sequel to J. Cole’s trilogy of mixtapes, “The Come Up,” “The Warm Up,” and “Friday Night Lights.” Along with the mixtapes Cole released other songs intended for the album in the weeks leading up to Sept. 27, 2011. In the end, Cole used Twitter to announce the final track list directly to his fans. The album would be made up of 15 tracks, most of which are produced by J. Cole, including an intro and an interlude in addition to three bonus tracks on the deluxe edition. “Cole World: The Sideline Story” appears as a complication of familiar tracks and new tracks that make it cohesive. The album is ordered in a way where one song leads to another in the same way chapters of a book tell a story. The album opens with an intro to set the tone. It is the start of a story of the day Cole got signed and is later finished during track five, the interlude. The intro leads into “Dollar and A Dream III,” an ode to the fans who were there from the start. The track is the third part to a song about the struggle to success. From this the album moves on to the second single “Can’t Get Enough,” featuring hip-hop artist and singer Trey Songz, which was leaked in July of 2011. The song is an upbeat club banger and is the opposite of “Dollar and A Dream” where it is the bright side of being a rap artist. This side includes partying and women. The result of partying and women is explained in the next track, “Lights Please,” a song from Cole’s earlier days, but he promised fans years ago no matter how many years later the track would make his debut album.

THE UNDERGROUND Following this is the interlude telling how immediately after getting signed J. Cole was pulled over went to jail for minor warrants including, traffic violations and jumping turnstiles. He went to jail knowing he would get out immediately and that he had a deal with rap mogul Jay-Z. From here it moves into the album entitled track, “Sideline Story.” In a nutshell, the song is about the transition from the symbolic bench into the game. Once you make it the next step is looking the part. The resulting track is “Mr. Nice Watch.” This track features Jay-Z and the two create a dynamic duo. The J. Cole produced track features a dub stepbeat, an electronic dance genre, showing his versatility. The next step after looking the part is to head out. Starting with the line “I think it’s gonna be a hell of a night” this Cole produced beat is made to dance to and have a good time. The result of that good time is the topic of the following track, “In The Morning.” The song features rap phenomenon, Drake, and is a love song told from the male perspective. The repercussions of that love are expressed in “Lost Ones,” which was leaked months before the album. “Lost Ones” is story of dealing with young pregnancy and abortion. This closes the story of the album and the rest of the tracks just stand alone as classic J. Cole songs . Remaining songs not mentioned include: a standout song entitled, “Nobody’s Perfect,” featuring female hip-hop legend, Missy Elliot, “Never Told” a song of manhood, “Rise and Shine,” the track with the standout verse of the album appearing as verse three, “God’s Gift,” the track originally intended for Jay-Z, and “Breakdown,” a song of longing for a father figure and telling of his mom’s drug use. The original single “Who Dat”, which was released in June of 2010, did not make the cut of the album but instead appears as bonus track. This was due to it being “too lyrical” and receiving a lackluster reception from the commercial audience. “Workout,” featuring a Kanye West and a Paula Abdul sample, also appears as a bonus track along with the sentimental “Daddy’s Little Girl.” All in all, J. Cole was able to put together a complication that could grab a new audience yet hold onto the fans that make up his foundation. The album debuted at No. 1, selling 217, 324 copies in its first week. This serves as the highest hip-hop solo debut this year. So maybe Cole was right when he said on track eight, “Cole World,” “I think they scared of me and they should be.” Rating: 4.7/5

A DAY THAT MATTERS

THE UNDERGROUND

The evolution of music has cracked a hole in the universe and has opened the door to a new wave of music that fuses contemporary R&B and 1970s-style soul in combination with hip-hop. So, a little bit of Jennifer Hudson, and a pinch of Diana Ross/ Sade, and a splash of Mary J. Blige brings forth a Jill Scott, Ledisi a new age voice to be reckoned with; Wednesday Atoms. Through th power of social networking I was able to each out to Wednesday. She sent me a link to her You Tube videos and from there I was an instant fan. Wednesday Atoms is a Connecticut native that is sharing her signature design with others; collaborating with Ct super producer Brandon Jhon on her single Free Falling and others like D Lee, Korqui Penstrong, Rahbi Raw, just to name a few..

Urban Grapevine Magazine was able to catch Wednesday Atoms for a brief interview. UGM: SOME OF MY FAVORITE NEO-SOUL ARTISTS ARE JILL SCOTT AND CHRISSETTE MICHELE. WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO IN THIS GENRE? Wednesday: Jill, of course, ERYHAH BADUUUUU!, Anita

Baker, Fela Kuti, Brandy...if she's considered neo. I love a lot...in every genre. UGM: I never got the chance to even ask if you saw yourself as a neo-soul artist. My bad…So Wednesday give me your outlook on what genre you think you fall under? And what is Neo-Soul to you? Wednesday: I'm so analytical. I call my genre "Genre-less". Because I will sing a Hindu chant over an R&B track, and not think twice. lol. Neo, by definition means "new"...so, to me it was the fact that the Jills, Erykahs...etc reinterpreted soul music, with a bit of blues and jazz. intertwined. That made it neo, or new, imo.

I can see hat being a creative sound. Hindu. As for Fela...never heard of her. I have to Google her. UGM: I went to the Blue Note in The Village via NY to see Chrisette Michelle and I was wowed by her performance. She was so live…so in your face…it seemed personal. What is your ideal venue? Wednesday: The Pyramids, where they have the Burning Man Festivals each year in Egypt. It's blacklit, amazing DJ's and people gather and DANCE and sing, dressed in lights for 3 days. I'm a flower child. lol. Well I can see you going far. My sister went to the pyramids last year. Her pics were breath taking. I love the harmony in your voice. The raspy tone, its raw and real. I hear you singing with so many voices. Your sound is so compatible.

I agree with how you see Michael Jackson. He'll always be new music. UGM: I know from being an author that it takes more than talent to be a star/ recognized. What are you doing to make sure people don’t forget the sultry voice of Wednesday? …and what’s your take on social networking? Wednesday: I don't have any plans or tactics. I'm a horrible promoter... I'm on FB and Twitter, it's cool because it doesn't consume me. The material that I've been creating helps the people to remember me. I pray that it remains the same. UGM: Do you write your own song? IF so, what are the inspirations behind them? Wednesday: I write my songs yes. A fellow Futurian, Korqui Penstrong helped co-wrote my single "Flatline" with me, she's a problem. When I write I blank out. I'm running around the studio singing loudly, the thoughts aren't even mine. I think faster than I write, so I don't write anymore.. I'm a lefty too. 8)

Wednesday: Thank you so much. my aunt Iris who passed from breast cancer 2 years ago INSISTED that I finish this song, It was half done forever. When I finally got it done, I knew that it needed video. I actually dreamt of the concept, jumped up and screamed "LIGHTS"! 6 days later I designed the set in my living room with Korqui's help, Alicia Cobb did the amazing body art for me, and Esco the GREAT brought it to life. UGM: I was curious to know if WEDNESDAY ATOMS is your real name or stage name. It has a great catch to it. So who do we have to thank for it? Wednesday: We can thank Deandre Da'costa for the name. It's not my original earth name, no. Mainly because I go by many names, many lifetimes. 8) UGM: When it comes to picking the people you work with how do you go about it? Do you reach back into your hometown? Community? Facebook? I see Alicia Cobbs did the body art in the Free Falling video and Escobar is the man behind the video and they are Bridgeport natives; is this coincidence? Wednesday: I 've met beautiful talented people. I don't believe in coincidence. It was on purpose, for a purpose. I can't WAIT to work with Alicia again. Esco is forever...lol. I wish he would run....j/k UGM: Everyone always asks in interviews; what advice do you have to all the talent that wants to be the next Wednesday or recording artist? So I am asking also but I also want to know the specifics. Tell my readers the first 5 steps you took to get the ball rolling..

What mistakes did you make that set you back; mentally and financially. Give it to us raw. We all learn by example in all industries. Who are the enormous snakes in the industry; no names just titles? Wednesday: I've been recording for 13 years, and I still haven't 'made it"... I never will, because making it implies sitting still. Success is the journey. Sometimes on a journey, you have to stop and take a break, or a detour, or turn ALL the way around. It comes with the territory. Ughh.. I have no clue what my first 5 steps were. I did what my heart told me to do...literally. At one point I had given up singing, and joined a dance group with 13 other people. We won the Showtime at the Apollo 8 times straight, on air...then we broke up. I went BACK to music.

THE UNDERGROUND

Lol. I literally had to know that THIS was my calling. No job, no college scholarship fulfilled me. I suppose the only thing that I did, was DECIDE. I've experienced plenty of snakes in my day, it helped me to know when to walk on the sidewalk, and not the grass. everything is a lesson. PATIENCE. that's major. Knowledge, major. And, love above all....for what you're doing. UGM: Well Atoms, I truly want to thank you for the interview, the Facebook friendship (which I take very seriously…) and your honesty. I hope to see you at the release party. Maybe we can do a collab…lol…now you know I am just messing with you.

Filmed/Directed/Edited by Edwin Escobar Assistance and coordination: Greg Black.

Hmmmm….maybe not I rocks the fierce poetry. Maybe we could do a Floetry type track…dang…I am just saying. I had to get that in there. UGM readers you have it… WEDNESDAY ATOMS IS THE NEXT SHINNING ELEMENT. Keep your eyes and ears open for her. Vote for Wednesday to be on the cover of UGM for January 2012. Thanks Wednesday its been great. We will leave you with one of WEDNESDAY ATOMS’ videos; FREE FALLING. Be on the look out for her latest coming in March; Back for the Future.

"Who You Reppin'?" FELISHA BRADSHAW Editor in Chief

Going as far back as I can; when I started appreciating rap music would be the early 80's. Rap music was in full bloom and full boom. Boom boxes set the mood for block parties, house parties, down to beat boxing and battling on the mic. You repped your block, your city, and most of all your crew. The incorporation of the beat box into rap battles set the mood when the boom boxes were not present. In Late 1982, New York native Doug E. Fresh was the legendary human beat box that repped his crew; "The Get Fresh Crew", in "83" Harlem's own Biz Markie stepped up to rep "The Juice Crew", in "84" Bridgeport, Connecticut had its own human beat box; The Jock Box reppin' his crew "The Skinny Boys". On the spot a crew member could step to you and want to battle to see who's style, lyrics and beats were the freshest. Whether you were a rapper or a beat boxer you better be prepared to represent. It is now 2011, and the same method is used to see who had those 16 bars that put him in the top rank class. The avenue have stretched to where one rapper could battle the next even if the lived clear across the country. The internet has allowed people to rep their crew, city even their country using social networks; Facebook and MySpace and the infamous YouTube. Beats are not necessarily needed but some still battle using beat boxing. Rap Battle have even reached the underground where the fresh unsigned hypes dwell; some searching for a label and some just looking to be crowned for their skill best underground rapper. Spitting lyrics to tear down your opponent, strip street creds from their crews and reign supreme holds recognition in the rap world outside of traditional king me status. Some of the greatest underground rap artists just do it for their hood. Underground sensation Blind Fury claimed his fame on BET's 106 & Park; Freestyle Fridays. Blind Fury uprooted from South Carolina and planted his roots in New York and was an unseen force not to be reckoned with. Smack URL (Ultimate Rap League) and World Star Hip Hop flood YouTubes with underground battle kings; Hollow, T-Rex, DNA and Real Deal to name a few. So, if you have 16 bars and you want to rep where you're from or who you get down with send them to Blacker the Berry's; Who You Reppin? email; urbangrapevine3@gmail.com.

CONTRIBUTING WRITER ANDRE' GORDON Over the years, gay men have been known to be very fashion forward. Ever wonder why females flock to them? Well, one reason is because their sense of fashion, not to mention the common interest in men. A lot of designer labels worn by celebrities are created by gay men, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs just to name a few. The fashion industry has even evolved into more of a metrosexual style of dressing. If you were a male caught wearing a pair of skinny jeans you were considered gay but now even straight men are becoming more comfortable with fashion. A well dressed man will ALWAYS catch the eye of a female. But, don't let the gay men be the cause of the skinny jean phenomenon here in the US.

LET THE CHURCH SAY AMEN! HAVE THE CHURCHES RE-ESTABLISHED THEIR REPUTATION WITH OUR YOUTH? Youths now have a place in the church besides sitting in the pews sleeping or being approached by the ushers for inappropriate behavior. They now have a voice. Many churches are opening their doors to the youth; tomorrows deacon, preachers, pastors, bishops and elders. Activities are set around the youth; youth ministries, youth choirs, youth groups and trips. The era of young mothers has been the turning point of change. They are bringing their children back into the church instead of leaving them at home. The pastors and ministers are younger the topics are more relative to youth lifestyles and the saying come as you are is really being enforced. The youth are given a chance to express their undying faith and love for the Father God through praise dance, poetry, gospel rap, and song. It is also being taught through the same avenues with an addition of cartooning for the younger children and skits. When the youth are brought into the church as babies and are not just in the church but active in the church they will remain even when they astray they will come back home. ~Psalm 144:12~ Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. Are young people rejecting the idea of traditional religious institutions? Many faith communities are struggling with this issue and how to respond. In the second of three special summer presentations, AIB's longest running television series, Sound of Youth (SOY), is tackling this issue with "Y 2 Faith? -- Why Young People are Just Saying No."

Pastor Daniel Perry aka "Pastor P" of Fountain of Faith Missionary Baptist Church Perry has been called the Tyler Perry for the youth of today. Creative director Daniel Perry (no relation to Tyler) has accepted the role as the ambassador for today’s youth. Pastor Perry's purpose is to change and motivate young people to accept the powerful word of God and be a beacon of light in a dark world. Pastor Perry just doesn’t show up with the Bible, but turns the Bible into a biblical production with his creative imagery. The licensed and ordained minister makes the Bible come alive! So he can preach and teach the living word to a so-called dying generation. With an extensive background in the world of visual communication, the awardwinning creative director can transform into many characters that draw kids and adults to the stage like a magnet. Once the audience's attention is captured, God's word is delivered in their lives. As a Creative Director (Multimedia Specialist) in the TV and publishing industry, his work has appeared in movies, TV series, department stores, malls, billboards, record labels, the worldwide web and national magazines. Now God has given him a task, and that task is to change the mindset of the youth in this dismal digital age world.

One known universal fact about all women is that we think, feel and behave based on our emotions. Our emotions determine what we wear, foods we eat, places we frequent, and most importantly, the relationships we create. When it comes to relationships, especially intimate ones, we often dive in head first with our emotional selves’ wide open for the other person we have fallen for, to see. With our hearts in hand, we tend to wrap our lives around that person and hold on with everything in us, never asking ourselves, “is that person not only worthy of what we have to offer, but is he giving just as much as he is receiving?” We tend to ignore what we are receiving in a relationship because we are often too busy giving to make sure he never leaves. We are also very guilty of conforming who we are to fit in the mold our significant other has established for us, only to find that down the line, after the newness of the relationship has dwindled that he really doesn’t know you at all. By this time, however, it’s too late to pull out because you have sunken that deep into it: you have already given up your body and most of us, even our souls to a relationship that is destined to end. And, why does this happen more times than not? It happens because we allow it: plain and simple. And, we allow it because it’s in our nature; we allow it because we have feelings and those feelings are governed by our emotions and our need to be loved. And, when we find ourselves at the end of a relationship that we have created in our heads to be the best relationship we’ve ever had, it is us women, who sit and ponder over why it ended and what we could have done to keep it all together.

We fight internally with our emotions blaming ourselves for his behavior, for the way he treated us, and why he left for someone else. We beat ourselves up trying to figure out why what could have been, will never be. The truth of the matter ladies is most times it’s never our fault. It is true that men are cut from a different cloth; a cloth where feelings and emotions are compartmentalized and only expressed when it’s actually real to them. That is the difference – most men don’t go into any relationship head first with their noses wide open. They ease into their relationships. They feel out their surroundings. They wait like a predator with prey, to see where our weaknesses are so they know when to strike. And, this is when we women have to come to an understanding that our hearts are real and should be protected. It is at this time, at the beginning of the relationship that we have to move with caution, guard our hearts , suppress our emotions to allow the person you are interested in to reveal their true selves without the use of your emotions behind their tactics. As women we have the amazing ability to feel emotions that most men will never encounter. And there is nothing wrong with allowing those emotions to overflow onto someone who will not only appreciate you, but who will also cherish you because when we love, I mean really love someone, we love them to the letter.

Confused

the Love Letter

Dear Love Letter: I have been married for over 20 years. My husband and I have three beautiful children, a nice house, and a big dog to complete the scene. During the first ten years of our union my husband always showed me love and respect and often made me feel like I was the only woman in the world. Lately, however, he has been distant, unloving and annoyed with almost everything I do. At first I chalked it up to him having a "mid-life" crisis, but he is not even 50 years old yet, and the kicker is that I found a condom in his pants pocket the other day. I want to confront him, but a part of me is not sure I am ready to hear what he may say. What should I do?...

Dear Confused, After being married so long, you and I both know that you know your husband probably better than he knows himself. With that said, if finding that condom was something that you have never done during your 20 year union then you must confront him because now there may be a third party involved. He could be going through a mid-life crisis, but it does not discount what the two of you have built together. Find the time to sit down with your husband to discuss what is really going on with him. Try to find out why he is not happy with himself because his behavior really has nothing to do with you (and don't let him try to make it seem that you are the reason for his newfound attitude). It is not uncommon for people to fall out of love and although a part of you may not be ready to hear anything that will negatively affect your marriage, it is best that you know now how he feels about you because it's not fair to either of you to continue a relationship that he does not want to be in and you are the only one really in it. Sincerely,

THE LOVE LETTER

'TALK TO ME, BABY!" BEDROOM TALK TAKING IT TO THE SHEETS... Therapists say that talking dirty in bed can keep a sexual relationship healthy. You aggressive lovers, this does not mean calling your mate the "B' word, or any other word relevant to it. (Unless that's your thang...be sure it is her thang too...or you may find your Sexcapade coming to a quick halt.) Many relationships have a void when there is a lack of communication. Pillow talk is a great way to share your most intimate thoughts, not to mention it builds sexual arousal and excitement. It can open the doors to better communication outside the bedroom. This may be the time you can express what it is that you like and how you like it done. Let go of your inhibitions and free yourself. Be sensual with doing this because no matter what no one likes to be told what to do, when they think they are doing everything right. Moan, shake your head like a wild beast when it is not what you want. For instance if you want her to explore your wetness because at the time you need clitoral stimulation gently take her hand and say something like, " See baby...see how wet you make me, make me cum." At this time you should guide her hand to your clitoris. If you want her to rub it hard press down hard and rub it together, then let her do the rest. If what you need is that sensual rub gently place her fingers on your clitoris and lightly rub. Tell her you like it when she rubs it softly. Tell her she gives you butterflies when it tickles. Bite down on your bottom lip and shake your head , yes. You can show her through words or body movement that she is doing all the things you need. Give an occasional "Yeah, Uh huh, right there..." Talking dirty while having sex may just be what your relationship needs. If she can open up to you sexually, maybe the lines of communication outside the bedroom will heighten. Being able to be open with your partner about what your feeling inside, whether it's pet peeves, goals, where the relationship is going and where you'd like to see it go. Whether it is pillow talk or just everyday talk, the lines of communication staying open and being optimistic can be beneficial to your existing relationship.

SEX TIPS AND TRICKS This month we will focus on romance and going that extra mile for that special someone. The warm weather is coming and it's time to spend some time outside. The key to happiness doesn't have to be through great sex nor does it have to run your pockets dry. Are you being told that things need to pick up in the romance area. Have you been accused of thinking sex...sex...sex? There are so many things we can do to keep happiness in the relationship. Try a day at the park. Pick a secluded spot where you can have privacy but still enjoy the scenery. Pack that picnic basket, back pack, lunch tote and fill it with fruits, dips, finger foods, drinks and blankets, If you have a small portable DVD player or music player chuck that along too. Spend some quality time getting to know your baby better. I guarantee she will look at you in a whole new light! Or you can make it an all night affair. Set up a tent bring along the same as above add some candles to your list and sit under the stars with the one that brings out twinkle in your eyes. If you are in the area Where you rent bikes try out the two seater trike. Ride her around the park. Or maybe you like to pack that backpack, picnic basket or lunch tote on the ferry boat.

Pleasure parties have resurfaced for Generation X. Now more than ever are women resorting to enhancing their love making with sex toys, sensation intensifiers, gels and liquids, assistance gadgets; swings, pillow, lifters & body positioners, straps and cuffs. Women are even seeking personal and private pleasures due to abstinence.

The exploration of our sexual senses, wanting to know the pleasure points on our bodies and/or our partners can be a long trivial process but it can be a lot easier doing than reading. Pleasure party hosts are the now; sex doctors. It makes it much more worth while if you make it a girlfriend gathering I would assume anyone would feel more comfortable. A few refreshments, hor'derves, sex talk bashful giggles and a little experimenting with products amongst friends can be a ton of fun and educational.

PICNIC FOR 2 CAPRI PICNIC BASKET BACKPACK Components: 2 Plates (melamine 9 in.) 1 Cheese knife (stainless steel w/wood handle) 2 Wine glasses (polystyrene) 2 Napkins (cotton 13 x 13 in.) 2 Ea. knives forks & spoons (stainless steel)

Price: $39.99 USD

1 Tablecloth (cotton 41 x 44 in.) 1 Cutting board (wood 6 x 6 in.) 1 Set of salt/pepper shakers 1 Corkscrew (waiter style - stainless steel)

Keeping it spicy in the bedroom will take a lot of creativity. Positions may have to vary depending on you and your partners height, weight and strength. If there is a height sensitive couple where no matter how you lay she/he is breathing into your mid-back or his/her face is buried into your chest this may come across as impersonal. Eye contact and passionate mouth kissing will be extremely hard and in some cases be a hindrance on the back so, the best position would be the ride 'em Cowgirl position. This position allows eyes contact, room for caressing although kissing may have to be periodically it still can be done.

Product Code: RR2181816 http://www.realrecreationusa.com

The chair position can be very pleasurable regardless of height, it may a compromising position if there are bellies in the way. Regardless of either person height this upright position makes way for the rider to get buck wild...pun intended. Be creative throw your head back, throw your hands in the air around the back of your neck and wind up your hips, turn around and face forward; back towards your partner and bunny hop. There are so many sexy ways to please your partner since you are and can be hands free. Laying your partner down on his/ her back will give you the power of position. You can control the movement of your body to fully please both; guiding the body into a climax for you and your partner. Whether your legs on the side or you are mounted on top in reverse or face forward or bent forward in reverse position.

If you are having a problem with balancing and need assistance ask your partner to bend knees up to chest while you squat on top. Then join hands and ride 'em cowgirl! Stay tuned next month when I give the best sex positions for the heavier couple. If you have any questions or suggestion feel free to write me; SEXTASTIC at urbanmgrapevine3@gmail.com

Interview your relatives; parents, siblings, half-siblings, and your children. Also get info on grandparents, great-uncles, great-aunts, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. If a relative has passed away, find out what was the cause of their death and at what age they passed away. 1.Do you have any chronic illnesses? 2.Have you had any serious illnesses? 3.What age were you when you developed the chronic illness or serious disease? 4.Does any family member have a learning or developmental disease? For more information on compiling and organizing your information go to familyhistory.hhs.gov. Finally, limit fat intake, alcohol, soda, do not smoke, exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight. This information is meant to get you involved in your health. It is not meant to replace or substitute medical advice from your health care provider or personal physician. You should visit your doctor annually for a checkup and discuss your concerns. It is advisable to have your list of questions prepared before going to visit your health care provider. If you are uncomfortable asking questions, take along someone who can advocate for you. For more information visit www.nih.gov/health. or call 301-496-4000.
