WELCOME TO HALIFAX 5

WELCOME TO HALIFAX Welcome to beautiful and picturesque Halifax, Nova Scotia On behalf of the 2018 Conference Committee and FEI Canada I am excited to be able to welcome you to the east coast and hope you are able to take in some of the local sights, food and friendly hospitality over the course of the conference. Our conference committee landed on the theme of “Oceans of Innovation” for this year’s national conference. We were inspired by the force of the Atlantic Ocean that all but surrounds Nova Scotia, and the innovation that is going on right here in and across our country. We’ve been working long and hard to ensure that you get to hear some thought provoking, educational speakers, but also that you have time to expand your network while getting a taste of what Nova Scotia has to offer. I would like to extend a special thank you to all of the conference speakers, panelists and moderators. It is with your support that we are able to put on a conference like this and I know we will all leave here better for your contribution. I would also like to sincerely thank the following FEI Canada members, sponsors and staff who have contributed so much of their time over the last year to make this conference possible. Their contributions of time, contacts, funding and creativity was significant and was greatly appreciated.

FRANK S. CAPON DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE FEI Canada is pleased to honour BEV DAVIES as the recipient of the 2018 Frank S. Capon Distinguished Service Award. This award honours Frank S. Capon who was an outstanding FEI Canada member for 57 years, and was credited with bringing FEI to Canada in 1948. Join your fellow members and toast Bev Davies on Thursday, June 14 at 4:45 pm in the Exhibit Hall, Ballroom Level,B1/B2. Embodying the very best of what it means to be an FEI Canada member, Bev has volunteered countless hours to contribute to the success of our organization. She is a role model who has worked to make her chapter relevant and valuable to members and prospects. She is a leader who has driven success for her chapter and for National. She is a shining example of what our organization stands for – learning and sharing knowledge through networking. Bev has made significant contributions to both National and the Winnipeg chapter. On the National Board, she has served as Chair, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Governance Committee. She has also volunteered her time to the Audit & Finance Committee, Governance and Risk Committee, CFERF Advisory Council and Chapter Leadership Council.

22

Highly regarded for the success of the Annual Conference held in Winnipeg in 2015, Bev served as Chair, spearheading the hosting of the conference, assembling a cross-country team, including some of the most senior financial leadership in Winnipeg. She successfully rallied the support of the local business community, yielding new members and record-setting sponsorship. Under Bev’s leadership, the team achieved the highest percentage increase in local membership than any previous membership committee – a whopping 58%. Bev has been instrumental in growing membership and building the profile of the Winnipeg chapter. She has served as President, Vice President, and Program Chair. As President, she helped to grow membership levels during challenging economic times. She excels at outreach, ensuring that all new members feel welcome and included. A thoughtful and resourceful leader, Bev has used her extensive network to provide quality programming for chapter events, engaging her employer, Investors Group Limited as well as her network of insurance and banking connections, and external audit firms. Her very capable leadership of the National Conference enabled the chapter to invest funds to advance education and networking in support of the goals of FEI Canada.
