CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE HONORS EMPLOYEES FOR MILESTONE YEARS OF SERVICE CITY MANAGER RAY GIBSON and the Fayetteville City Council thanked and congratulated many employees recently for their milestone years of service to the City. Each employee received a gift and recognition at the City’s annual Christmas luncheon. Celebrated for five years of serve were Alexander Chisum, Ryan Hyde, Bradley Partridge, Michael Sawyer, David Shriver, Diana Snider, Lee Huddleston, Tracey Baker, Maggie Bufano, Zachary
Campbell, Jessica Smith, David Augcomfar, Sherrie Crisp, Jason Scarbrough, and Jacob Collins. Celebrated for 10 years of service were Austin Dunn, Joshua Meade, and Julie Brown. Celebrated for 15 years of service were Joshua Collins, Benjamin Henning, Carlos Calderon, and Christopher Compton. Celebrated for 20 years of service were Reginald Williams, Julius Holmes, and Darlene Rowe.
Celebrated for 25 years of service were Erran Brown, Wesley Howell, Williams Rieck, and Christopher Peacock. Alan Jones was celebrated for 35 years of service. Three 2023 retirees were also recognized: Patty Kent after 31 years with the Police Department, Jeff Towler after 27 years with the Police Department, and Sherry Sutton after five years with the Finance Department.

GEORGIA GOVERNOR BRIAN KEMP HONORS FAYETTEVILLE POLICE OFFICERS FOR OFF-DUTY RESCUE

FAYETTEVILLE POLICE OFFICERS Diana Snider and Jacob Collins were honored December 1 by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp for heroically rescuing two women and two children from a vehicle during the January 12 tornado in Spalding County.

The Spalding County 911 system was inoperable due to widespread storm damage, so she radioed her Fayetteville Police supervisors, who immediately contacted off-duty officers located in the Hollonville Road area. Officer Collins, a Fayetteville Police K-9 handler who was off-duty at the time, rushed from his nearby home in response to the call. Officer Snider recalls seeing the vehicle under the tree and
—OFFICER DIANA SNIDER wondering if anyone could have survived. “When I got out of my vehicle, I could hear the babies crying,” she said. “There were trees down, live power lines down, and water everywhere. It was chaos.” When Officer Collins arrived on scene, Officer Snider says she was so grateful for the help. Working together, the officers rescued two babies from the backseat and relocated them safely to a nearby residence. They provided medical aid to the women trapped in

the vehicle, including the deployment of tourniquets to control bleeding. Over the next short while, more people showed up to help, including local residents, an off-duty power company employee, and someone with a Bobcat vehicle. They then removed fallen branches and logs from the road to clear the way for rescue vehicles. “It was perfect how everyone came together,” Snider said. “Everyone who needed to be there was there.” Officer Snider and Officer Collins are credited with saving lives that day, and Governor Kemp honored them for their actions during a special awards ceremony December 1 at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. Several members of the Fayetteville Police Department Command Staff and City of Fayetteville government officials attended in support of the officers.

POLICE DEPARTMENT RETIREMENT & PROMOTIONS THE FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT celebrated a retirement, three promotions, and a newly-hired officer on December 20. Thirty-one year veteran Patty Kent had served as the Captain over the Patrol Division for several years, and, in keeping with Fayetteville Police Department tradition, she retired up a rank as Deputy Chief. Lieutenant Austin Dunn was immediately promoted to the rank of Captain, Sergeant Michael Perry was promoted to Lieutenant, and Officer Jacob Collins was promoted to Sergeant. Torrye Rasch was also sworn in as the department’s newest patrol officer that afternoon.

18TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WITH COPS EVENT
THE FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HOSTED ITS 18TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WITH COPS EVENT on the morning of December 9, starting with breakfast at Police Department headquarters followed by a shopping spree at the Fayette Pavilion Walmart for several families in need. Local radio station 92.5 FM The Bear supported the event with a live broadcast, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3650 as well as the Fayetteville City Council also sponsored the event.
POLICE COMPLETE PROGRAMS LIEUTENANT JOSHUA MEADE RECENTLY completed the Administrative Officers Course with the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. This is an intensive 12-week residential program. CRIME SCENE PROPERTY EVIDENCE MANAGER CATHERINE BELL graduated the National Forensics Academy, a rigorous 10-week program in Knoxville, Tennessee. While there, she passed the International Association for Identification exam, and she is now nationally certified as a Crime Scene Investigator. Read more at www.fayetteville-ga.gov/news.

Fayetteville firefighters continue to inspect and install new smoke alarms in the homes of the City’s elderly population as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Smoke Alarm Grant program. It has always been the practice of the Fayetteville Fire Department to inspect smoke detectors at no charge upon request. Thanks to the FEMA grant, qualifying residents also receive the smoke alarm units and batteries for free.
