“A perfect storm of first-rate cast and crew… an over-the-top but excellent film” —Sar ah Walker, FANGORIA > Devoir vivre dans un parc à roulottes, c’est déjà suffisamment merdique, mais, pour Norma, il y a pire. Elle est morte. Une zombie… Mais ça n’est pas trop enviable que d’être la reine du parc à roulottes, si la foule sur qui l’on règne n’est qu’un paquet de morts-vivants nauséabonds. Mais, soudain, quel coup de chance! Un plein autocar de crétins de « camp religieux », avec leur pasteur, débarque à côté! Basé sur la bédé du même nom, TRAILER PARK OF TERROR devait, à l’origine, constituer une film à sketches. En cours de développement, on a rejeté l’approche multi-segments, quoique… Chaque personne qui se fait trucider, à sa façon, fait avancer d’un pas le récit — comme dans certaines anthologies des années 80. Les séquences de boucherie ne se gênent pas, joyeusement sanglantes, fructueusement sadiques. Ce qui fait en sorte que ce film se démarque, c’est entre les massacres qu’on le trouve, avec l’interaction de Norma avec ses voisines et voisins morts-vivants. C’est une petite famille. Stank le gangréneux, un colosse qui aime faire mijoter les viandes et forcer ses proies à donner un peu dans la porno maison (avant
de mourir). Roach le rockabilly, qui adore chanter un petit quelque chose à ses victimes (mais hélas il a parfois un bras ou une jambe qui tombe, juste à ce moment-là). Larlene la bedonnante, un vrai laideron, et qui a encore plus faim que les zombies ordinaires (on ne vous dira que ça). Et puis, n’oublions pas China, la masseuse de ce parc à roulottes, spécialisée dans les fins malheureuses. Aïe! On se balance comme ça, du dégueulasse à l’hilarant, durant toute la projection, sans reprendre son souffle. De toute façon… ce serait le souffle de quelqu’un qui fume un paquet par jour. Impossible de ne pas apprécier au passage les effets spéciaux — voici les zombies inspirés des EC Comics plus réussis depuis RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD ou alors nous ne sommes pas Fantasia! C’est un peu comme la télé en début d’après-midi, mais avec des morts plutôt que des vivants, un contenu sexuel treize ans et plus, et un contenu gore dix-sept ans et plus. Avec une trame sonore country western assez entraînante pour le diable en personne (Trace Adkins, en l’occurrence). —tr aduction: David Pellerin

> Being stuck living in a trailer park is bad enough, but for Norma, things are much worse. She’s undead in one. Being the queen of the trailer park isn’t all it cracked up to be when your only company consists of zombified trailer trash. Lucky for Norma and her crew of corpses, a school bus full of Bible-camp rejects and their pastor just rolled into town… Originally envisioned as an anthology, TRAILER PARK OF TERROR is based on the indie comic book of the same name. While the anthology concept was eventually scrapped, some of that ’80s-era feeling remains, with individual “kills” functioning to drive the minimalist story forward. The murder scenes are sadistic and gory, happily stomping over the battered remains of the MPAA left in the wake of the recent “torture porn” wave. But where TRAILER PARK OF TERROR distinguishes itself is between the death scenes with the comedic familial interactions of Norma and the rest of the undead trailer trash. There’s Stank, a hulking, gangrenous butcher who likes to make

possum jerky when he’s not goading his victims into making homemade porn, Roach, a rotting rockabilly who likes to serenade his prey when his limbs aren’t falling off, and Larlene, an overweight mumu-wearing monstrosity who’s hungrier than your average zombie (which is saying a lot). And we haven’t even mentioned China, the trailer park’s “masseuse,” specializing in particularly unhappy endings. Ouch. The film alternates between nasty and funny, rarely stopping to catch its wheezing pack-a-day breath. Despite the rapid pace, it’s impossible not to appreciate the quality of the special effects (some of the best EC comicsinspired zombies since RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD ), the twangy country & western soundtrack (Trace Adkins cameos as the Devil), and the frequent and adamantly PG-13 sex interspersed with near NC-17 levels of gore. Ultimately, TRAILER PARK OF TERROR is like daytime trash TV—but with zombies. It might not be good for you, but who can resist? —Andy Mauro
