Reconstruction of the House of Parliament FAKOM designs the Geodesic dome of the House of Parliament
Within reconstruction and extension of the House of Parliament of Republic of Macedonia, in its central part construction of more administrative facilities in function of the Parliament are planed as well the assembly hall for representative purposes. That what is interesting in the reconstruction is the assembly hall for representative purposes, which is completely made in steel structure with a circular shape and basically consist of floors and roof construction type geodesic dome. This type of roof structure is built for the first time in Macedonia. Concerning the geodesic dome, its dating to the time after World War II and is the work of the American engineer, thinker and innovator Buckminster Fuller. The geometric structure of the geodesic dome is actually icosahedrons, one of the five Platonic ideal geometric solids with 20 identical isosceles triangles as sides. The dome of the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia is a geodesic dome with V16 5/8 frequency. The dome is actually a segment (calotte) in diameter 32m and height 10m radius / height proportion 5/8. The complex steel structure (dome, bars, floors) relies on a part of a new construction built by AB fixed bearings and the rest of the six pillars AB height 12.80m
The two small domes were manufactured and erected by FAKOM and the central big one, was a product of cooperation between FAKOM and the Spanish company LANIK.

Three years continuity of “FAKOM” award

June 23th 2013, in Aleksandar Palace Hotel in Skopje, the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was held. The American ambassador in the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Paul Wohlers as well the Minister for Education Mr. Spiro Ristovski were present at the ceremony. Within the ceremony the graduated engineers and masters were promoted. FAKOM AD - Skopje according to the Framework agreement for cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering awards for the third time its well known “FAKOM” award for the best diploma thesis in the area of steel structures. The commission consisted of professors of the faculty and a representative of FAKOM each year reviews the submitted thesis of the graduates and decides for one which will be awarded with the prestige plaque “FAKOM”. This year the graduate Dobre Ristov was rewarded for his diploma thesis “REL welding of HARDOX 600 steel plates.” P. 3

New companies - new projects For the Dutch company, Vekoma, one of the leading companies in the world making family, thrill and indoor coasters, FAKOM has sign a contract for manufacturing of 400 ton steel structure for suspended looping coaster for Irak. Vekoma rides have recently designed new trains with new modular seat design with special integrated vests. FAKOM took part in constructing this steel structure. While manufacturing, FAKOM was using the most sophisticated technology for metrology (apsolut traker ). The cooperation with Vekoma continues with other similar projects for Korea and Japan. With the French company Technip, FAKOM is starting a new project for prefabrication of shell nozzles with and without PWHT, for the site of Algiers Refinery Plant located at Sidi – Arcine, East of Algiers. The Algiers Refinery Algeria is currently operating a 2.7 MMTPA petroleum refinery at Algiers, located 10 km from Algiers Airport and 15 km from the Algiers Port. The Refinery is having various units such as Crude Distillation Unit, Gas Plant, Catalytic Reformer unit and associated auxiliary units including utility and offsite. As part of "Rehabilitation & Adaptation Project" of Algiers Refinery, Owner intends to revamp some of the above units and also add a few new units. Under the Rehabilitation Project, the crude processing capacity of the Refinery shall be increased by 35%.
