THE DOHA MINUTE

“At the beginning I couldn’t even imagine living here a year, and now I can’t really imagine leaving.”

FACT catches up with Victoria Scott, aka Tory, a full-time mother and parttime freelance journalist (and FACT contributor), who writes for magazines both in Qatar and the UK, and presents a radio show called Meet the Philharmonic on QF Radio.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING IN QATAR?

We arrived in January 2009, so it’s been almost three-and-a-half years. It’s gone tremendously quickly. At the beginning I couldn’t even imagine living here a year, and now I can’t really imagine leaving. Our son was born here. WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT LIVING IN QATAR?

The sunny winter days. We’re from the UK, where grey, drizzly, short wintry days are the norm. I never get bored of waking up to blue skies and sunshine. AND LEAST?

It’s a tie between the stifling summer heat and the crazy roads. I think I’ll go for the roads on balance, as the summer heat is less likely to do me serious harm! WHAT DO YOU DO TO SWITCH OFF AND RELAX?

In the winter, we head to Aspire Park with drinks and snacks and play football with our son. In the summer, we drive to Wakra Fishing Harbour where the sea breeze makes it a bit cooler, and go for a stroll. We love it there. TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW?

I’m nuts about musicals. I love to sing (although I wouldn’t call myself a singer) and played the part of the Russian’s wife in Chess at University. I got to sing “I know him so well.” Probably just as well there weren’t any recordings made, really... FACT QATAR JUNE june Issue qatar.indd 9
