Message from the President

Dear members and friends of the French-Australian Chamber, Last year saw some great developments and positive outcomes for the French-Australian Chamber and our business community. Our network of Patron and Corporate members has expanded, our operational team has grown, and our NSW Chapter concluded the year with a move to a new office. The premises located in the heart of Team France in Sydney was officially inaugurated by Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development, during the launch of Team France which coincided with the first visit of a French President to Australia as part of the G20. This significant event highlighted the investments made by the Chamber in the last months to improve the quality of services and activities offered to our members across five dynamic Chapters, which will be soon joined by a sixth Chapter in Canberra, in order to increase bilateral engagement with our Australian partners. We have also been proud to facilitate access to the market and connections for members and French companies and their subsidiaries through a range of tailored networking events and supporting programmes. These achievements should set the base for another ambitious and exciting year focused on doing more for all membership categories, on increasing the position of the Chamber as a leading bilateral organisation and networking platform, and finally on providing our team with the infrastructure and tools they need to deliver these objectives. I would like to thank the Board of Directors and State Councillors for their commitment and passion, as well as our members and sponsors for their ongoing support and participation.

2014 Highlights ONE BRANDING FOR ONE NETWORK A historic change occurred as the rebranding of CCI France International, and the network of French Bilateral Chambers, and in particular with the adoption of our new visual identity.

to create a stronger visibility for a truly global network which serves both French and local companies in the countries that host us.

Whilst still recognising local identities, the new logo emphasises one collective global network with one brand.

The French-Australian Chamber is adopting a single collective image in order to reinforce our commercial capacity, and to illustrate our common values and objectives. Uniting us all

AOG - AUSTRALASIAN OIL & GAS EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE Perth - 19-21 February 2014

The Australasian Oil and Gas Exhibition & Conference (AOG) held in Perth, is one of the major industry events in the international oil and gas calendar. The event provides a unique opportunity to see what’s new in the industry and aims to help facilitate business connections with industry leaders. The event was held between 19-21 February this year and saw the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry join forces with the Groupement des Entreprises et des Professionels des Hydrocarbures et des Energies Connexes (GEP-AFTP) & Business France for the 3-day Oil & Gas Exhibition. Accompanied by AWEX & FIT (Belgium), the European delegates from France and Belgium had a fantastic presence throughout the event.

This AOG event attracted a record number of 550 exhibitors from 15 different countries. A diverse range of products and services from the oil and gas industry were on show as part of the exhibition, and there was a noticeably strong presence of European organisations. Our FACCI stand in partnership with GEP-AFTP was a success, and Gerard Momplot – General Manager

at GEP-AFTP France as well as Stamatia Petropoulou at GEP-APAC Singapore, were able to reinforce their strong association with French/Australian companies. We would like to thank all our Exhibitors and Sponsors for their greatly appreciated contribution, which made this event possible.


SOIRÉE DE GALA Sydney - 16 October 2014

On Thursday 16 October, the FrenchAustralian Chamber of Commerce and Industry held its 21st edition of the annual Soirée de Gala, sponsored by Peugeot. For the third year running, the Chamber also held the Business Awards, kindly sponsored by Etihad Airways. We had the privilege of welcoming over 330 guests to the beautifully presented Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La Sydney, starting the evening with a surprise welcome address from the Australian Prime Minister Mr Tony Abbott.

The hall was artfully decorated with flowers from Wildblossom, and tables garnished with culinary delights in the form of Macarons and Chocolates

from GJ Food, Champagne courtesy of Pernod Ricard, as well as gift bags filled with delightful presents from Peugeot, Etihad Airways, Clarins, French Provincial Magazine, Bausele, DPPP and Vittoria Coffee. This year in particular, the Soiree de Gala was an occasion for us to celebrate the friendship between Australia and France, as it marks the Centenary of WWI and part of the historical link between both our countries, from an amicable and cultural bond to our relations in trade and industry. This relationship has been reinforced over the years, starting with our foundation in 1899 when the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry initially functioned as an intermediary for the Wool Trade. Following on 115 years later, the Chamber has come a relatively long way, accommodating for over 800 members nation-wide from nearly every services and industry sector. The evening also revealed the beautiful new Peugeot 308, Pernod Ricard’s brand new Chivas Regal Extra blended scotch whisky with a tasting bar, some incredible Raffle Prizes and an exciting line-up for our Live Auction. We would like to congratulate to all of the lucky winners and successful bidders. Part of the funds raised will be donated to our selected charity the St Vincent de Paul Society through Givematcher.

BUSINESS AWARDS The theme for this year’s Business Awards was innovation, today’s crucial source of business growth. This was an opportunity for all members to showcase their 2013 business achievements to the French-Australian business community. Within this theme we presented five separate categories: Patron Member, Corporate Member, Small Business, New Member and Community Contributor Award. The objectives of the Business Awards are: • To recognise the most exceptional achievements of our members • To reinforce the link between French Australian Chamber of Commerce and its members • To foster friendly competition between members • To inform, connect and promote members to local Gala guests

LAUNCH OF TEAM FRANCE AUSTRALIE Sydney - 18 November 2014

Almost all of France’s major companies are present (35 out of the top 40 companies listed on the French CAC stock exchange) and together with 280 French SMEs for a total of more than 500 French companies active in Australia, a market that is considered to be strategic for their international development and positioning within the Asia-Pacific region. Trade between France and Australia is also strong, and Australia is among the countries with which France has a trade surplus. To further foster economic development, bilateral investment and

trade, the newly created Team France unites the strengths and abilities of a dynamic French business community in Australia, providing a platform from which to think strategically about the place that France and its companies have in the Australia of the future. On 18 November 2014, Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Minister for Foreign Affairs, officially opened our new NSW Chapter office in Sydney. This exciting Team France Australia hub comprises the services of the French Embassy, Business France, the FACCI and the CCEF, in welcoming and

accompanying new French companies with a desire to participate in Australia’s economic development as well as further afield in the Asia-Pacific region.


MERCI DOWN UNDER LAUNCH - COMMEMORATION EVENT FOR WWI Perth - 29 November 2014

Merci Down Under was officially launched with a VIP cocktail night at the Ballroom of the Governor’s House on Saturday 29 November, with its Patron, the international singing star Tina Arena, well known to audiences in France, leading a musical tribute to Australian servicemen and women. Tina Arena travelled especially to Perth to attend this event. The performance launched a series of ‘Merci Down Under’ events – an expression of gratitude by

the people of France for Australia’s efforts during the war. “It’s a symbol of a beautiful connection between both nations. It’s time, and it’s beautiful that both cultures are now starting to swap notes. If I can be a part of that, that’s terrific,” Tina Arena said. Merci Down Under project started in 2008 while the FACCI WA President visited war graves on the Somme. “It was very touching,” Christine Caseris said. “As a French person, I realised

the magnitude of the Diggers’ sacrifice. When you visit the memorials to the Great War, you realise how many lives were lost to save France.”

FAREWELL TO BRUNO GUTTON, FACCI PRESIDENT December 2014

2014 has been a great year. From all of the great events we have had around the country to the impressive growth in our ranks of members, the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce is ending 2014 on a high, and very much looking forward to everything that we have in store for 2015.

This year concluded on a bittersweet note as we said goodbye to Bruno Gutton, our President over the past 4 years, who has been such a strong advocate for the French-Australian Chamber and overseen the introduction of three new State Chambers, a new Constitution, as well as a steady growth in the size of the Chamber nation-wide. The Chamber is extremely grateful for all of his support and the wonderful commitment that he has shown to the development of French-Australian business relations, and wishes him the very best with his exciting new pursuits in the United States.

The French-Australian Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to announce that François Romanet will fill the casual vacancy. François, who is affectionately known as the “mover and shaker”, has until present been serving as NSW Chapter President. A formal election of the President occured after the annual general meeting. Frank Ribuot, the CEO of Randstad was elected as the NSW Chapter President following the NSW Chapter annual general meeting. We extend our warmest welcome to both François and Frank in their new roles.

Business Services The Chamber’s Business Services have performed well again this year with an increase in revenue of +40% compared to last year up to $130K. In 2014, the Chamber received more than 313 business queries from companies wishing to explore opportunities on the Australian market. 30 Companies have contracted FACCI Business Support Department through 17 Individual and 3 Collective Missions. In 2014, the Chamber hosted 5 French companies in the Sydney Office. The Chamber also spent 12 Trade Days in France in June 2014, meeting with over 60 French companies. The revenue is still modest compared to the overall turnover of the Chamber but we expect a growing income in the upcoming years. For 2015, the Chamber aims to further develop its tailored hosting and domiciliation services for French SMEs wishing to send staff or establish operations in Australia. Business Services are a profitable and valuable activity for the Chamber as they connect the Chamber with French & Australian companies, Trade & Investment Institutions, and contribute to the development of bilateral trade between our respective countries.

This publication, developed in collaboration with our Corporate Member Infosys Portland investigates the Procurement practices of French and Australian organisations based in Australia, titled “The Savoir Faire of Buying”.

Financial Report The financial statements at 31.12.14 have been audited by Mazars Australia (William Buck Chartered Accountants). 2014 closes with a profit of $1,731 (2013: $9,364 loss). Total Income for 2014 was $1,334,858 representing an increase of 11.5% compared to previous year. Movements in income categories since prior year are as follows: • Events: -4% • Membership: +23.4% • Services: +52% Events represent 47.6% of total revenues, membership 35.6% and services 16.8%. Expenses increased to $1,333,789 (+10,5%) including operating costs of $325,284 (+7.2%) and staffing costs of $381,443 (+31.8%). It is also worthwhile noting that FACCI generated $19k operating cash flow in 2014 (2013: $51k).
