Cardinal rule: If you drink, don’t drive; put the bird in an Uber Staff at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah got a call last weekend from a man who “had a few too many” drinks and found a baby lesser goldfinch struggling on the ground. An hour later, the bird arrived at the center in an Uber by itself. Staff learned the man had called the car as he was too intoxicated to drive. The bird, nicknamed Petey, was thin and dehydrated, but it will live. (AP) HEROES AMONG US #2

Va. happy hours get happier PERSPECTIVE Margarita Mondays. Tequila Tuesdays. Wine-ding down Wed nesd ays, a nd O n -Tap Thursdays. Before this month, Virginia restaurant owners couldn’t use phrases like this to advertise happy hour specials on signs outside of their restaurants. The issue of Virginia’s “happy hour law” was laid bare in a lawsuit brought forward by Washington-area chef Geoff Tracy. The law was ultimately tossed aside by new legislation. As of July 1, the new law allows Virginia restaurants and bars to use creative terms to describe happy hours and to advertise what drinks will cost during those time slots. “Now, prices and puns are legal in Virginia,” said Anastasia Boden, the lead attorney in the suit filed on behalf of Tracy. The basis for the lawsuit centered on the argument that because happy hours were legal, advertising the truth about them should be, too.

Chef’s challenge helps change law that limited advertising bar specials

A new law allows Virginia bars and restaurants to advertise drink specials.

“The reason we brought the lawsuit was to vindicate a deeper principle, and that is that the government can’t censor truthful information for paternalistic reasons,” Boden said. Some states ban happy hours completely, and others limit aspects of advertising them, based on the argument that it

will reduce alcohol consumption and drunken driving. But Boden said the evidence doesn’t support that. “If you look just across state lines into Maryland and D.C., it’s not as if you see more traffic accidents due to alcohol,” she said. And if reducing drunken driving is the goal, she said,

“I think there’s a better way to get at that than by banning speech.” Tracy, who operates restaurants in Maryland, the District and Virginia, said he is “thrilled” the restriction is gone. “I just thought it was ridiculous you couldn’t tell people Budweisers were 3 bucks,” he said. He also couldn’t describe happy hour beyond those two words. “I couldn’t say ‘very happy hour’ or ‘ultimate happy hour.’ ” Boden and Tracy both said they would have preferred to have seen the issue settled in court — rather than through legislation — so they could have set legal precedent, but both expressed satisfaction that Virginia ultimately did the right thing. Tracy said it’s just unfortunate it didn’t come sooner. Ten days before the law went into effect, he closed his Tysons restaurant, Chef Geoff’s, which was named in the lawsuit. The lease expired on that day, and he had made the decision earlier not to renew it. “ That was bittersweet,” Tracy said. “If it was there, we would’ve had to have had some sort of party.” THERESA VARGAS

Far-right, antifa clash in D.C. Police prevent violence as opposing protesters descend on downtown

EVELYN HOCKSTEIN (FOR THE WASHINGTON POST)

THE DISTRICT Hundreds of D.C. police officers descended on the area around Washington’s Freedom Plaza on Saturday, preventing antifascists from clashing with right-wing demonstrators during dueling rallies near the White House. Police on bicycles and on foot quickly broke up skirmishes and prevented black-clad, hooded leftist antifascists, known as antifa, from erecting barricades in streets with toppled chairs. Antifa demonstrators and opposing Proud Boys interacted at times but never fully engaged. The Proud Boys, a self-proclaimed Western-chauvinist fraternal organization that promotes ending welfare and closing the borders, held the Demand Free Speech rally to protest some right-wing activists being barred from social media sites. They were vastly outnumbered by counterprotesters at adjacent Pershing Park. The “All

Out D.C.” rally, which blasted gogo music to drown out what they called messages of white nationalism, included antifa activists. Though tense at times, demonstrations ended quietly around 2 p.m., as Demand Free Speech speakers left in private buses. Some Proud Boys went to Harry’s Bar, where police stood guard. Shortly before 5 p.m., a

half-dozen antifa demonstrators showed up outside the bar, though no confrontation occurred. After about a half-hour, the antifa group left, trailed by officers. Then they headed to Trump International Hotel, where they faced off again with Proud Boys and people in MAGA gear. The police used bicycles to create an impromptu barrier. They had to break up at least one fistfight. D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said his goal was to keep the two groups largely separated. At times, it appeared police were at every flare-up, plucking people out of verbal altercations that could have led to violence. No injuries were reported. Police were determined to avoid a repeat of the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville. Olga Slobodyanyuk, 26, traveled from home in Sterling, Va., to counter anti-left sentiments. “This is just 30 minutes from my home,” she said, “so I had to show up to let them know — Nazis are not welcome in our city.” PETER HERMANN, PETER JAMISON, HANNAH NATANSON AND CLARENCE WILLIAMS (THE WASHINGTON POST)

According to Metro, 400,996 people rode the train between 7 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on July 4. That’s an increase of 1.7% over July 4, 2018. But that is different from the number who attended festivities; some riders may have been going elsewhere. Metro’s average daily ridership is higher: 594,000 trips.

The National Park Service diverted nearly $2.5 million for this year’s July 4 on the Mall, a fraction of the total cost, The Post reported. Those funds were primarily intended to go toward improvements at national parks across the country. The White House has not shared the expanded event’s total cost.

A California man burned two U.S. flags outside the White House on the afternoon of July 4, sparking clashes between opposing protest groups. Gregory Johnson, 62, faces misdemeanor charges, including for inciting violence, though prosecutors on Friday dropped a felony charge of assaulting an officer.

Two local house fires on Friday morning were blamed on improper use of fireworks. One, in Northwest D.C., displaced four residents of a two-story, single-family house. The other, in Fairfax County, displaced five residents. D.C. police said officials recovered thousands of illegal fireworks citywide.

ECONOMY Nearly one-quarter of Americans say they never plan to retire, according to a poll that suggests a disconnection between individuals’ retirement plans and the realities of aging in the workforce. Experts say illness, injury, layoffs and caregiving responsibilities often force older workers to leave their jobs sooner than they’d like. According to the poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 23% of workers, including nearly 2 in 10 of those over 50, don’t expect to stop working. Roughly another quarter of Americans say they will continue working beyond their 65th birthday. According to government data, about 1 in 5 people 65 and older was working or actively looking for a job in June. For many, money has a lot to do with the decision to keep working. When asked how financially comfortable they feel about retirement, 14% of Americans under the age of 50 and 29% over 50 say they feel extremely or very prepared, according to the poll. About another 4 in 10 older adults say they do feel somewhat prepared, while about

one-third feel unprepared. By comparison, 56% of younger adults say they don’t feel prepared for retirement. Among those who are fully retired, 38% said they felt very or extremely prepared when they retired, while 25% said they felt not very or not at all prepared. But remaining in the workforce may be unrealistic for people dealing with unexpected illness or injuries. For them, high medical bills and a lack of savings loom large over day-to-day expenditures. “People like me, who are average, everyday working people, can have something catastrophic happen, and we lose everything

because of medical bills,” says Larry Zarzecki, a former Maryland police officer who stopped working in his 40s after developing a resting tremor in his right hand and a series of cognitive and physical symptoms he at times found difficult to articulate. Meanwhile, Americans have mixed assessments of how the aging workforce affects workers: 39% think people staying in the workforce longer is mostly a good thing for American workers, while 29% think it’s more a bad thing and 30% say it makes no difference. A somewhat higher share, 45%, thinks it has a positive effect on the U.S. economy. ANDREW SOERGEL (AP)

San Francisco will spend up to $600,000 to paint over historical artwork at a public school depicting the life of George Washington, a mural once seen as educational but now criticized as racist for its depiction of black and Native American people. The “Life of Washington” was painted by Victor Arnautoff, one of the foremost muralists during the Depression. The 83-year-old mural contains images of white pioneers standing over the body of a Native American and slaves working at Washington’s Mount Vernon estate. The decision last week comes at a time when the legacies of Washington and other figures who owned slaves are being reexamined. Some cities have changed the names of streets and buildings named after slave owners. (AP)

ICE raids set to start ‘fairly soon’

Iran enriching uranium above nuke deal limit

Fear of immigration roundups looms as plan for mass family arrests moves ahead name not be used. In addition to many lawmakers being out of town and the deadline for congressional action expiring over the weekend, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is in transition: Many supervisors and agents have been on vacation for the July 4 holiday, and the current acting head, Mark Morgan, is leaving to start a new job today as the acting chief of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Carol Danko, a spokeswoman for ICE, declined to discuss the agency’s plans. “ICE does not comment on law enforcement sensitive operations,” she said. The president did exactly that, though, in his June 17 tweet advertising mass arrests he said would start the following week. Operational details of the plan began leaking out and circulating on Capitol Hill soon after. White House aides and Homeland Security officials were frustrated that the president put ICE’s plans on Twitter, prompting concerns that the operation’s blown cover diminished its chances for success and jeopardized the safety of federal agents. Administration officials said it was the uproar that followed — not a potential deal with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — that led to the operation’s delay. IMMIGRATION President Trump said his administration will move forward “fairly soon” with a plan to arrest thousands of migrant families in surprise roundups across major U.S. cities, after the two-week deadline he imposed on Democrats expired Saturday. Trump tipped off the mass arrests in a June 17 tweet, vowing “millions” of deportations, but called them off five days later. The president tweeted that he delayed the raids for two weeks at Democrats’ request, “to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border.” “If not,” he wrote, “Deportations start!” Trump’s threats have left immigrants living in the U.S. illegally in a fog of dread, putting neighborhoods on edge and making residents fear venturing outside. Eva, who works at a plant nursery in Homestead, Fla., said she has stopped going to the park and makes trips to the grocery store every few weeks. “I don’t know when I leave in the morning if I’ll come home in the night,” said Eva, who arrived illegally 19 years ago from Mexico and whose teen daughter is a U.S. citizen. “They could come and get me at any time,” she said. TEHRAN, IRAN Iran increased its uranium enrichment Sunday beyond the limit allowed by its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, inching its program closer toward weapons-grade levels while calling for a diplomatic solution to a crisis heightening tensions with the U.S. Iran’s move, coupled with earlier abandoning the deal’s limit on its low-enriched uranium stockpile, intensifies pressure on Europe to find any effective way around U.S. sanctions that block Tehran’s oil sales abroad. But the future of the accord that President Trump unilaterally pulled the U.S. from a year ago remains in question. While Iran’s recent measures could be easily reversed, Europe has struggled to respond, even after getting a 60-day warning that the increase was coming. Meanwhile, experts fear a miscalculation in the crisis could explode into open conflict, as Trump already has nearly bombed Iran over Tehran’s shooting down of a U.S. military surveillance drone. Iranian nuclear agency spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said the new level of uranium enrichment would be reached later in the day, but did not provide the percentage the country plans to hit. Under the nuclear deal, the enrichment cap is set at 3.67%, enough for peaceful pursuits but far below weapons-grade levels of 90%.

ICE’s list of targets ICE developed a target list this spring with thousands of names in at least 10 cities, including Houston, Los Angeles, New York and other major immigrant destinations. Senior Trump administration adviser Stephen Miller and other White House officials urged the arrests and deportations to be carried out in a highly visible fashion for the sake of maximum publicity. official said, cautioning there is “always a chance POTUS blurts them out.” The president has been briefed on the broad strokes of the plan, but not the precise details, the official said. PAMPLONA, SPAIN | Revelers run next to fighting bulls Sunday during the running of the bulls at the San Fermin Festival in northern Spain. The running of the bulls draws about 1 million spectators every year. During the nine-day fiesta, bulls are run every morning in the streets and then killed in afternoon bullfights. Five people were hospitalized after the opening bull run, including two Americans and a Spaniard who were gored by bulls.

Calif. quakes a ‘wake-up call’ Newsom says the two temblors show the U.S. must prep for disasters

MARCIO JOSE SANCHEZ (AP)

RIDGECREST, CALIF. Two major earthquakes that hit Southern California last week should be a warning to people nationwide to prepare for natural disasters, the state’s governor said as officials expressed relief that the damage wasn’t worse. Gov. Gavin Newsom said Saturday that governments must strengthen alert systems and building codes and that residents should ensure they know how to protect themselves during an earthquake. “It is a wake-up call for the rest of the state and other parts of the nation, frankly,” Newsom said at a news conference on the state’s efforts to help the region hit Thursday and Friday. Friday night’s earthquake was the largest in Southern California in nearly 20 years. Officials have voiced concerns about the possibility of major aftershocks in the days and months to come, though chances have dwindled. No fatalities or major injuries were reported after the magnitude 7.1 quake, which jolted an area from Sacramento to Mexico and prompted the evacuation of the Navy’s largest single landholding, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in the Mojave Desert. The quake was centered 11 miles from Ridgecrest, the same remote area of the desert where a

magnitude 6.4 temblor hit Thursday. It left behind cracked and burned buildings, broken roads, obstructed railroad tracks and leaking water and gas lines. By Sunday morning, all roads serving the town of 28,000 people were safe to drive again, water and power had been restored, and bus service is to resume today, Ridgecrest Police Chief Jed McLaughlin said. Homes were being inspected for damage. Authorities warned people to be ready for aftershocks and other earthquakes, adding they may not be so lucky next time. The U.S. Geological Survey, however, predicted Sunday just a 1% chance of another magnitude 7 or higher earthquake in the next

Minor fault action likely The Ridgecrest area is sandwiched between more populated areas of Southern California and Clark County, where Las Vegas is located. Seismologists warned that it could see up to 30,000 aftershocks over the next six months, though many will be too small to notice. The seismic activity is unlikely to affect fault lines outside the area, said seismologist Lucy Jones. (AP)

week, and a rising possibility of no magnitude 6 quakes. The damage wasn’t worse largely because of how remote the area is, but Newsom said after touring Ridgecrest that “it’s

deceiving, earthquake damage. You don’t notice it at first.” The Democratic governor estimated the damage at more than $100 million and said President Trump offered federal support. The California National Guard was sending 200 troops, logistical support and aircraft, Maj. Gen. David Baldwin said. The Pentagon had been notified, and the entire California Military Department was on alert, he said. San Bernardino County Supervisor Robert Lovingood said FEMA delivered a tractor-trailer full of bottled water because of damage to water lines. Newsom declared a state of emergency for the county. NEW YORK Wealthy financier and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is due in court following an arrest in New York on new sex-trafficking charges involving allegations that date to the early 2000s, according to law enforcement officials. Epstein, who once counted as friends former President Bill Clinton, Great Britain’s Prince Andrew and President Trump, was taken into federal custody Saturday and is expected to appear today in federal court, three law enforcement officials said. Epstein’s arrest comes amid renewed scrutiny of a once-secret plea deal that ended a federal investigation against him. That deal, which is being challenged in Florida federal court, allowed Epstein, 66, to plead guilty to lesser state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under age 18 for prostitution. Averting a possible life sentence, Epstein was instead sentenced to 13 months in jail. Epstein’s deal was overseen by former Miami U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta, who is now Trump’s labor secretary. U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra of Florida ruled earlier this year that under federal law Epstein’s victims should have been consulted about the deal, and he is now weighing whether to invalidate the nonprosecution agreement that protected Epstein from federal charges. American domination in numbers

Mission accomplished

U.S. 2, NETHERLANDS 0 For four years, the jersey worn by the U.S. women’s national soccer team has featured three blue stars above the logo, signifying the World Cup championships won across almost three decades. On Sunday, as the players danced and hugged amid confetti and celebration following a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands, they were handed new shirts made especially for the occasion. And above the crest, and over their hearts, sat a gold star, recognition of what they had accomplished over four incredible weeks in France and over 90 difficult minutes in front of a sold-out crowd of 57,900 at Stade de Lyon. “To see us four years ago go from two to three [stars] and now three to four,” forward Alex Morgan said, “it’s really a dream come true.” Four years after lifting the trophy in Canada, the Americans retained the title by scoring twice in an eight-minute span of the second half.

Veteran Rapinoe, newcomer Lavelle seal back-to-back American World Cup titles

Rose Lavelle, 24, scored an insurance goal Sunday in the 69th minute.

Returning from injury, Megan Rapinoe recorded her tournament-best sixth goal on a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Rose Lavelle, a breakout star from the Washington Spirit, scored a terrific goal in the 69th. “Over the course of the game, it was hard to find that kind of space,” said Lavelle, 24. “Finally, there was an opportunity to take space. I decided to go for it. … I like my left foot, man, and I got it on my left foot.”

U.S.-Mexico Gold Cup final ended after Express’ deadline

Rapinoe, an outspoken figure on issues ranging from politics to gender equality, won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s top player. “I am made for this. I love it,” she said. “To be able to couple it with everything off the field and to back up those words with performances, it’s just incredible. I feel like this team is changing the world around us.” Jill Ellis, a native of England who starred at Fairfax’s

Robinson Secondary School and William & Mary, became the first coach to win two Women’s World Cup titles. On the men’s side, only Italy’s Vittorio Pozzo had done it — in 1934 and ’38. The championship was redemptive for both Ellis and her players, who in 2016 lost in the quarterfinals of the Olympics, their earliest elimination in a major tournament. It did not come easy. The Netherlands was physical and unafraid. Unlike the previous six matches, the United States failed to score in the first dozen minutes. The U.S. probed for ways to unlock the Dutch defense but ran into firm road blocks. When the Americans did create opportunities, goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal made terrific saves. Rapinoe left to a roaring ovation in the 79th minute. Carli Lloyd, the hat-trick hero of the 2015 final in Vancouver who will turn 37 this month, entered in the waning moments. STEVEN GOFF (THE WASHINGTON POST)

The number of goals scored by the United States. That set the record for most goals in a single World Cup tournament, topping the 25 goals scored by the U.S. in 1991 and Germany in 2003. The Americans outscored their opponents 26-3.

Nats in a groove as they reach the All-Star break Fueled by recent surge, Washington sits atop NL wild-card standings

“I think you can’t blame a guy for wanting to go home.”

Lefty Patrick Corbin threw seven scoreless innings Sunday as the Nationals topped the Royals 5-2.

RAPTORS COACH NICK NURSE, KATHERINE FREY (THE WASHINGTON POST)

NATIONALS 5, ROYALS 2 The Nationals were all but finished six weeks ago. Now, with the best record in baseball since May 24, they could just be getting started. Washington beat the Royals 5-2 on Sunday at Nationals Park to end the first half of the season behind seven scoreless innings from Patrick Corbin and clutch doubles from Anthony Rendon and Howie Kendrick. The Nationals (47-42) head into the All-Star break atop the National League wild-card standings and just 5½ games behind the Braves in the NL East race. They are five wins above .500, which seemed impossible this spring. Starters Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Aníbal Sánchez and Corbin are in a groove. Their offense has homered in 21 straight games, extending a franchise record, and has hit 34 in that stretch.

Scherzer reveals injury Nationals ace Max Scherzer won’t pitch in the All-Star Game because of a back injury, but he’ll be on the sideline tonight and Tuesday in Cleveland. on Kawhi Leonard’s decision to leave Toronto for a four-year, $141 million contract with the Clippers. News of the California native’s decision broke early Saturday — or late Friday night on the West Coast — after weeks of speculation.

The All-Star break will benefit a team that leans so heavily on its core. Scherzer, Strasburg and Corbin usually exceed 100 pitches, with Corbin at 104 on Sunday. They still have 73 games to play, but summer will be exciting when it could have been bleak. “When you look back as a player, you never say, ‘Man, I hit .300 before the All-Star break,’ ” manager Dave Martinez said. “No, you look at the big picture, which is the end of the year.” JESSE DOUGHERTY (THE WASHINGTON POST)

For 15-year-old, composure will define fortnight WIMBLEDON Mom and racket-holding Dad joined two coaches and a hitting partner at Coco Gauff’s practice session Sunday at the All England Club as the 15-yearold American prepared for the toughest test yet of her Grand Slam debut. A qualifier who is ranked 313th and the youngest player to make it to Week 2 at Wimbledon since Jennifer Capriati in 1991, Gauff put in extra work on her forehand as she got ready to face former No. 1 Simona Halep in the most-anticipated matchup of the fourth round when the tournament resumes today. What truly stands out about Gauff is her composure, both on and off the tennis court. “You can kind of fake it ‘til you make it,” said Gauff, who lives in Delray Beach, Fla. “But I’m not faking it, at least right now.” She was never overwhelmed by facing Venus Williams, someone she has grown up admiring. She spoke about resetting her mind after that, and won her next match in straight sets, too, against a past Wimbledon semifinalist. And in the third round, Gauff was not bothered by twice being a point from losing. “My parents are just telling me to stay calm, stay focused, because the tournament is not over yet,” Gauff said. “That’s why I’ve been kind of celebrating the night after the matches, then the next day back to practice.” HOWARD FENDRICH (AP)

The nerdy kids of “Stranger Things” are too busy fighting real monsters to play “Dungeons & Dragons.”

MUST-SEE THIS WEEK

1 ‘Love Island’ 8 p.m. Tuesday on CBS

NETFLIX

This American remake of a popular British reality series follows 11 singles as they seek love on a tropical island, with contestants booted throughout the show until the viewers crown the winning couple.

A dungeon of dragging ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 doles out its sci-fi nostalgia at a frustratingly slow pace TV REVIEW This third season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” — which is way too long and far too convoluted — is wholly envisioned and cleverly appropriated by the Duffer Brothers (twins Matt and Ross), who were born in 1984 and would give anything, apparently, to travel right back there. “Stranger Things” is both a longing and an ode to a mishmash of ingredients: John Carpenter, Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, Freddy Krueger, Rambo, the Terminator, the aliens of LV-426, the video arcades, the adolescent pining, the ASCII angst. You can practically bathe in the nostalgia. What’s difficult, however, is to be fully entertained by it. “Stranger Things” is still a show

that mainly shows off. It’s almost heartbreaking to watch the Duffers work so hard to re-create an elusive vibe they’ve already nailed — this time constructing the Starcourt Mall, a shiny new shopping destination in fictional Hawkins, Ind. Here, the boys and girls of “Stranger Things” cope with the onset of teenage drama in the summer of 1985, apparently well-recovered from their previous battles with monsters including the Demogorgon of Season 1 and the Mind Flayer in Season 2. Nerd leader Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and the shy but powerfully telekinetic El (Millie Bobby Brown) are now an item, with discreet make-out sessions while her adoptive father figure,

Motherly love Most of the emotion in “Stranger Things” veers toward the overblown, though Winona Ryder, who plays jangly nerved mother Joyce, has fully applied her talent to the role. Her effort is rewarded with a subplot that sends Joyce and Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) off in a madcap and even romantic direction, becoming one of the season’s highlights. H.S.

Hawkins Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour), seethes with protective worry. Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink) are also still dating. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) returns from summer science camp so smitten with a girl that

he builds a ham-radio antenna powerful enough to reach her on their own frequency. Instead, he gets the plot rolling by intercepting encoded communiques. Part of the Duffers’ problem is that they are paying homage to popcorn movies that lasted no more than two hours. But “Stranger Things” spends hours and hours letting things unspool. The material just doesn’t prove worthy. And there’s ample evidence that the Duffers are running out of big ideas, often relying on violence to make up for a lack of imagination. Nevertheless, nostalgia remains a powerful drug that satisfies a primal urge, and on that note, “Stranger Things” can lay claim to an ample supply.

When I heard about “Holey Moley,” an ABC program that is a miniature golf competition, I was underwhelmed. Prime-time putt-putt? To quote Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler: “Really?” Then I saw the audience stats for last month’s first episode: 10 million multiplatform viewers for the 8 p.m.

Thursday premiere, a Sunday rerun and digital fans. So I tuned in. And holey moley, I liked it! Each week, 12 competitors vie for $25,000, a “golden” putter and a butt-ugly green plaid jacket. They play on an “extreme” mini-golf course. Hit a ball through a windmill, then try to run through the windmill. Or sink a putt while Kenny G plays sax right in your face.

On the green: Game show ‘Holey Moley’ is a delight

Contestants take a swing at mini-golf on the game show “Holey Moley.”

But the best part of the show is not the course action. It’s the color commentators, who perfectly parody the hushed

solemnity of TV golf experts. Comedian and “Daily Show” alumnus Rob Riggle opines that a player wearing a fanny

pack “has gotta be disqualified simply for that.” When a windmill blade body-slams a contestant and knocks her into a patch of giant tulips, Joe Tessitore, an actual ABC sportscaster, says, “I pray her son isn’t watching this.” The show’s ridiculousness makes it fun to watch in the same way that it’s fun to play an over-the-top mini-golf course. The matches are heavily edited, but who cares when you get to hear the deadpan Riggle deliver lines like, “A little rule I like to follow is don’t use your face to break a fall”? “Melania’s hometown erected a wooden statue of her, and I am still not sure if it was meant to be a joke or a tribute.” @CBOUZY, reacting to Ales Zupevc’s

statue of first lady Melania Trump in her hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia. The wooden statue, which features Trump in the pale blue dress she wore for her husband’s inauguration in 2017, has drawn mixed reviews. American artist Brad Downey, who commissioned Zupevc to carve the piece, called it “beautiful.” But according to the BBC, locals have branded it a “disgrace.”

“Watching the Women’s World Cup and everyone at this sports bar just erupted in cheers for the ‘Mulan’ trailer. Matriarchy NOW.” @JILLBOARD, tweeting about the first trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of “Mulan,” which dropped during the Women’s World Cup final Sunday, in which the U.S. defeated the Netherlands 2-0. Reactions to the trailer were mixed. While some were disappointed dragon Mushu, male loveinterest Li Shang and musical hits from the original cartoon were absent, others were encouraged by the cinematography and action-packed scenes featuring actress Liu Yifei. “Mulan” is expected to be released in spring 2020.

“Dearest, the battle for gate C4 was hard fought, but we prevailed. Alas, we ran out of ammunition, and had to lob our stores of Cinnabons at them.” @HPOCHOCOLATE1, joking about

President Trump’s history flub in his Fourth of July “Salute to America” speech. While reciting the history of the American Revolutionary War, Trump claimed the Continental Army “took over the airports” from the British. However, the war lasted from 1775-1783 and the first plane took flight in 1903. Trump blamed his rain-drenched teleprompter.

surrounding singer and actress Halle Bailey, above, being cast as Ariel for the live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.” A majority of Disney fans were thrilled to hear that the R&B singer — one half of the Grammynominated duo Chloe x Halle — would be taking on the role, but some insisted that Bailey couldn’t play the cartoon mermaid because she’s black.

They were telling people they were a couple.” Mendes, however, shook his head when asked during a fan Q&A on Saturday if the two were dating.
