Weekend Pass I don’t normally do karaoke, but Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” is my jam. I have to be slightly intoxicated to perform it, though.
OFF COURSE WITH …
SCOTT SUCHMAN
If you could only have one, and it didn’t affect your health, which would you choose: sleep or food?
Tomason plans to open her RareSweets bakery at CityCenterDC in October.
Meredith Tomason Prior to launching RareSweets — her drool-worthy line of desserts available at select markets across D.C. — Tomason pursued a career in theater in New York City. For her third act, she plans to open a RareSweets bakery at CityCenterDC in October. There, she’ll offer pour-over coffees, ice cream and cakes like rhubarb orange blossom (963 Palmer Alley NW; raresweets.com).
What is your middle name?
Joan. It’s the same middle name as my mom and grandmother. Do you have a go-to karaoke song?
Food. But that’s tough. Do you remember your first word?
It was “bottle.” I was a very large baby and obsessed with food.
Taste of Dupont On Saturday, May 31 from 2:00-5:00, Dupont Circle restaurants will showcase their favorite appetizers, entrées, drinks, and desserts for the seventh annual Taste of Dupont. This restaurant hop allows patrons to explore neighborhood eateries by going from place to place with tasting tickets to enjoy the best Dupont restaurants have to offer.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A marine biologist. I thought, “I’m going to play with whales for the rest of my life and it’s going to be awesome.”
Tickets can be purchased in advance – $20 for five at www.dupontcircle.biz or $5 each on the day of the event at the Resource Center; 9 Dupont Circle, NW starting at 1:00 p.m.
Can you name three Wu-Tang Clan songs?

No. Not even going to try. But I did sneak into a seedy bar in New York City when I was in high school and ended up dancing with some of the members. What’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?
A pair of Prada purple suede pumps with a metal heel. They only come out for very special occasions. HOLLEY SIMMONS (E XPRESS)

Clams with XO Sauce Available at Fainting Goat There’s something vaguely familiar about chef James Barton’s clam dish ($12). But that could just be because so many ingredients make their way onto the plate (13 total, not including the clams). His play on the Asian-inspired sauce includes country ham, anchovies, orange zest and caramelized garlic, shallots and onions, all of which combine in a most unlikely harmony.
