In the last 15 years we have travelled to more than 40 countries. With our mountain bikes or snowboards, in search of the best trails and the most stunning powder runs – for magazines and photo shoots, with professional photographers.

After an avalanche accident while shooting a snowboard video in 1999, former freeride pro Holger Feist came up with the idea of a backpack with integrated back protector. The incident did not involve burial and did not have serious consequences. Holger did, however, injure his back as a result of the avalanche shovel in his backpack when he crashed in a couloir. The concept of a back protector also seemed to make sense for mountain biking, particularly as the ergonomics of the bike packs at the time left much to be desired. “Like a football on your back!” is how Holger summarised it in 2000 after a three-week bike expedition through Tibet, to Mount Everest Base Camp. So we started to tinker, sew and experiment, until the first functioning backpack prototype was finally initiated in 2003, on the trails of La Paz. But an entirely different problem emerged in Bolivia, one for which a sensible solution was not yet available on the market: the bike that had been carefully packed in a box, came off the baggage carousel at La Paz airport in tattered packaging

and in all its individual parts. Fortunately everything was still there, but this was obviously a reason for developing a sophisticated bike travel bag, as well. Right from the start, the focus was on maximum functionality and quality so as to ensure that worrying about gear was going to be a thing of the past once and for all.
comfort and safety. We still travel as much as possible all over the world with our sports equipment – and, meanwhile, more and more frequently also with our business luggage. We test all our products ourselves and invest a lot of time and energy in further perfecting everything – down to the smallest detail.
Both products were initially produced only for our own travels and for friends who requested them. Until one day, we had a phone call from a friend and long-term travel companion, Bernd Stucke from Hong Kong. He had taken his bike for a service at the legendary “Flying Ball” bike shop in one of the very first bike bags. Bike mastermind and shop owner Mr Lee was so impressed by this bike travel bag that he immediately ordered 50 bags. And that was to be our first “real” customer.
Every product reflects our passion for our sport and our passion for what we do. As a result, EVOC products are always a little more than simply pieces of equipment. EVOC stands for evolution and the concept of high-quality, sporting backpacks, bags and luggage – with a special focus on protection. Protect the things you love! Or in short: EVOC – PROTECTIVE SPORTS PACKS.
So in 2008 we founded the EVOC brand. Since then a great deal – and yet only very little – has changed for us. We continue to rely on quality and functionality without compromise, while setting trends in design,

After 38 hours of flying we’ll soon have reached our destination, but just before Balmaceda we dig our fingers into the aircraft seats once again because of extremely heavy turbulence. Okay, Patagonia is known for its strong winds, but this is really, really tough. Hopefully the camera equipment is safe! Thank goodness, everything on arrival and the car rental process at the small airport run smoothly, and now it’s only another two hours until we reach Lago Tamango. The end of the world presents us with nature at its best – with a lodge right on the shores of the lake, snow covered mountains all around us and impenetrable forests in front of

them, untamed indeed but still in perfect harmony. It’s the ideal location for our photo shoot. In heavy contrast to this is the bumpy ride on the dirt road to civilisation – Cerro Castillo – where our tour guide Mary breaks the news that the next petrol station is 100 kilometres away. A real disaster if it weren’t for Rodrigo and his small private depot, from which he fills our tank with some petrol using cut-off plastic bottles. We buy our groceries in the living rooms of the locals – ATMs are non-existent here. Tobi knows a few scraps of Spanish, which turns out to be very useful. Our next day’s tour is almost four hours. Together with our guides Mary, her Chilean husband Christian and their friend Rancho we ride to Cerro Castillo on horseback – 2675 metres >>

make it the highest peak of the Patagonian Andes. While people are freezing in Europe it’s extremely hot here. Horseflies are literally eating us, our bottoms hurt, and the ascent is exhausting – but then our overnight stop makes up for everything: We put up our tent, and Mary creates something delicious on her camping stove. There is absolute silence up here and the Southern Cross shines in the gigantic night sky. We set off even before sunrise and start to hike further up to the glacier. At this time of the morning we are all alone – which is the dream of anyone who comes up here. We pull out our cameras, and soon enough we have gathered the first couple of shots of the day. Then we let the unbelievable beauty around us sink in: the fascinating ice fields, the silence over the lake. We enjoy every moment. And these moments alone make a PHOTOP trip to Patagonia and all the turbulence in the plane worthwhile.

“The PHOTOP is a camera backpack with a photo block module that provides effective protection for system or small DSLR cameras both during sports and urban adventures. The backpack’s design follows the trend in system and compact cameras, which means it is compact, versatile and functional. PHOTOP 16l, 22l Professional sports photography is part of our history, which is why we know that to be able to focus completely on the perfect shot, equipment that performs in any terrain and sports discipline is an absolute must. So, for this season, we have been looking for a way to adapt our PHOTO backpacks even more precisely to the needs of amateur photographers as well. Highlights of the PHOTO 2017 collection are the PHOTOP 16l and 22l, which combine outstanding carrying comfort and maximum flexibility in their respective area of use.
Thanks to the roll top, you can easily adapt the backpacks volume, while the removable camera block allows it to be used as a regular daypack. Like the backpack, the camera blocks offer many different variations. On the one hand, they can be used separately as independent camera blocks, and on the other you can adapt the interior individually thanks to integrated dividers, which then ensures that the compartments are always perfectly tailored to accommodate the relevant equipment. A separate compartment with quick access provides enough space for small items such as memory cards. In order to meet the high demands of our customers, the PHOTOP products

Designed for ambitious use, our NEUTRALITE SYSTEM is a carrying system for high-capacity backpacks, which allows even heavy loads to be carried comfortably over longer periods, in a way that is neutral to movement. Back adaptation and load transfer are managed via malleable stabilising elements that transfer the weight onto a specially adapted hip belt 01 via segmented and strategically positioned padded elements.
This means that the weight is absorbed as neutrally as possible at the body’s centre of gravity, via the hips. Particularly wide, well-padded and ergonomically shaped shoulder straps 02 with a wide neck cut-out help keep the backpack in place at all times and prevent it from slipping, even during action-loaded manoeuvres. At the same time, useful gaps and aeration channels ensure optimal ventilation across the entire back.
AIR CIRCULATION

AIR CIRCULATION is used in all our backpacks, as it ensures optimum ventilation while preventing excessive cooling down of the sensitive kidney area, even during extremely high-strain activities or intensive perspiration.
Constant, free air circulation is guaranteed as a result of the vertical air channel. Gaps along the sides of the channel allow additional air to escape.
AIRO FLEX is an extremely sturdy material that is both permeable and flexible. We use it for our top-quality hip belts
to ensure optimum load transfer to the hips, with simultaneous maximum ventilation – for utmost carrying comfort.

“We were travelling around the Pitztal in search of a photo spot, when we came across this ice cave. High enough to easily walk in, and branching out in all directions, this “ice house” instantly fascinated us. The unreal shapes and the play of light in the ice made a spectacular setting. We explored the cave and its surroundings on foot until the day slowly came to a close. To make sure we still got a good shot we had to abandon our journey of discovery and find a spot that would allow us to put both the beauty of this place and my brother as a rider into focus. A small ledge above the entrance of the cave was enough to create the perfect combination. The setting sun then did the rest to give this shot that certain something.“

So far Derek Frankowski’s career could be divided in two parts. Before 2010 when co-created Life Cycles, a film that has changed the action sports films landscape, and after. Before he was happily shooting still images for the top MTB brands and magazines around the globe. During that time he was able to produce some of the industries most icon images and push the public’s awareness of the young sport. While shooting photos Derek embarked on a 5 year journey with Ryan Gibb to produce the film Life

Cycles and was his first project behind a moving pictures camera. Now his work reflects this new direction and he’s exploring the possibilities in other genre’s. Working with top global brands he’s pushing the 4K visual language and exploring the potential of motion picture content. “One of the best parts of my job is that I alone can determine when and where I work. I enjoy just spending time in nature now and again, and to wait all on my own for the perfect lighting.
It never fails to amaze me how the moods change with the changing light conditions. My big challenge here is to capture this properly with my Red camera, time after time and to portray it perfectly. In order to work completely undisturbed, I sometimes have to cover long distances and pack not only my film equipment, but also personal gear like provisions and a change of clothing. A good camera backpack with a comfortable carrying system is therefore an absolute must for me – which is why I choose the CP 35l.”

“Being out in nature and rocking trails in remote locations is what I love. But when you are roaming the mountains, you need to keep your eye on the trails but also on the weather. We misjudged the situation a bit here. Everything was looking good in the morning and since we were really keen on taking some technical downhill runs, we took our bikes up really high. But a few hours later a thunderstorm built up and it became darker and gloomier. Richard Walch is one of the first widely published German snowboard photographers and is famous for his picture aesthetics. Today he still works in the snow but is also a sought after photographer for sailing. I like to shoot strong elements like snow and water. I’m specialized in
sailing photography in summer and ski/ snowboard photography in winter. Very often the most difficult part of a shooting is to even reach the location. That’s why I need a backpack for my equipment. It needs to have a perfect fit so I can snowboard with it and a high degree of protection for my camera – even if I crash. An ultra fast access is
mandatory for me so I can grab my gear in the middle of the slope. The challenge is to never stand still – you need to develop your photography just like the sport evolution never stops. Nature becomes most interesting if the conditions get rough. To be able to still get the shot – that’s what I like.

OUTER MATERIALS You could summarise the must-haves for perfect outer material for backpacks and bags in four words: durable, abrasion-resistant, water-repellent and lightweight. And this is precisely what nylon offers. Depending on the area of use of the product, we work with various nylon fabrics that differ in weave and fibre strength to optimally support the product’s functionality. High-stress sections are fitted with a polyester fabric, which is tear-proof, lightweight and moisture-resistant. That’s why we use it for the base constructions and heavily stressed sections of our products.
