In the last 15 years we have travelled to more than 40 countries. With our mountain bikes or snowboards, in search of the best trails and the most stunning powder runs – for magazines and photo shoots, with professional photographers.

After an avalanche accident while shooting a snowboard video in 1999, former freeride pro Holger Feist came up with the idea of a backpack with integrated back protector. The incident did not involve burial and did not have serious consequences. Holger did, however, injure his back as a result of the avalanche shovel in his backpack when he crashed in a couloir. The concept of a back protector also seemed to make sense for mountain biking, particularly as the ergonomics of the bike packs at the time left much to be desired. “Like a football on your back!” is how Holger summarised it in 2000 after a three-week bike expedition through Tibet, to Mount Everest Base Camp. So we started to tinker, sew and experiment, until the first functioning backpack prototype was finally initiated in 2003, on the trails of La Paz. But an entirely different problem emerged in Bolivia, one for which a sensible solution was not yet available on the market: the bike that had been carefully packed in a box, came off the baggage carousel at La Paz airport in tattered packaging

and in all its individual parts. Fortunately everything was still there, but this was obviously a reason for developing a sophisticated bike travel bag, as well. Right from the start, the focus was on maximum functionality and quality so as to ensure that worrying about gear was going to be a thing of the past once and for all.
comfort and safety. We still travel as much as possible all over the world with our sports equipment – and, meanwhile, more and more frequently also with our business luggage. We test all our products ourselves and invest a lot of time and energy in further perfecting everything – down to the smallest detail.
Both products were initially produced only for our own travels and for friends who requested them. Until one day, we had a phone call from a friend and long-term travel companion, Bernd Stucke from Hong Kong. He had taken his bike for a service at the legendary “Flying Ball” bike shop in one of the very first bike bags. Bike mastermind and shop owner Mr Lee was so impressed by this bike travel bag that he immediately ordered 50 bags. And that was to be our first “real” customer.
Every product reflects our passion for our sport and our passion for what we do. As a result, EVOC products are always a little more than simply pieces of equipment. EVOC stands for evolution and the concept of high-quality, sporting backpacks, bags and luggage – with a special focus on protection. Protect the things you love! Or in short: EVOC – PROTECTIVE SPORTS PACKS.
So in 2008 we founded the EVOC brand. Since then a great deal – and yet only very little – has changed for us. We continue to rely on quality and functionality without compromise, while setting trends in design,

Since the entire Legs Of Steel crew was involved in the biggest ski film project ever last year (“Passenger”), it was clear that Paddy and I would be making another banger trip in 2016: into the north of Norway, to Lofoten! As there are neither heli-skiing facilities nor lifts on Lofoten, we knew that this trip would be extraordinary – especially since we wanted to explore the terrain by plane. Inspired by my Alaska trip last year, I had specially obtained a pilot’s licence for this purpose. Unfortunately it turned out that it would not be easy to hire a plane there. I found nothing on the Internet, and decided to phone all the airports, until I finally ended up with a fisherman who knew someone with a plane... And that is how I met Ulf, who was a little concerned because of my lack of flying experience. But after our test flight together, he was

prepared to entrust his plane to me. After the first flight the entire crew was completely overwhelmed by the mountains and the unbelievable landscape – far more impressive than we had imagined. The plane was perfect to search for spots, but it soon became clear how difficult it was to actually reach these places: we found a perfect location with conifers, elks and vast wilderness. In order to reach it we had to be dropped by boat, which was only possible during high tide, because of the shallow water. Then we had to carry our entire equipment including skis for hours, across streams and swamps, all the way to the snow line, before we could even put our skins on. By the time we finally had all our things at our campsite the day was gone – and the actual sporty side of our skiing was only just going to start. well into the night and go for downhill runs – in spectacular light. But the days that followed here were the most demanding skiing/filming days I have ever experienced in my career. Through our own strength alone, we completed all the ascents – to film and take shots, sometimes several times after another. Plus, we were in an extremely remote area, which meant that we were left to our own devices. A serious injury would have had fatal consequences here. Once we were done and our bodies were close to utter exhaustion, it was time to break camp and make our way back into the valley. We had agreed a pick-up time for the next morning with our boat pilot, when the tide was at its highest, and the plan was to spend the last night right on the shores of the fjord – one of the most beautiful camping sites I have ever experienced. Completely drained but happy with the success of the past few days and the fact that nobody had incurred an injury, we enjoyed our last few hours in the wilderness. Just in time for our departure, the weather had also changed and the wind had picked up to such an extent that the boat trip back almost turned into a mini adventure. But thanks to Seth’s boating skills, we managed to arrive safely on land again, albeit with a little bouncing around. The following week was very mixed, with changeable weather, which made flying as well as filming extremely difficult. So we made use of this time to get to know the Lofoten Islands better. This trip was definitely the highlight of the year, and despite the physical exertion we all flew back home after three weeks – over the moon. - with Paddy Graham and Sven Kueenle

Be it on the slopes, in off-piste terrain or when touring, the new LINE backpacks (available as an 18l and 28l model) meet all the requirements for any (winter) day. “When we developed these packs, our focus was primarily on a reduced look and optimum partitioning. At the same time it was very important to us that the functionality should not be compromised. A highly abrasion-resistant outer material that defies the most adverse conditions on the mountain, and robust, long-lasting parts are therefore a must. With two volume
versions of 18l and 28l, we can be sure that we have catered for the wide range of allround use. The LINE range is perfect both for short tours and entire days on the slopes. An ergonomic carrying system is indispensable for backpacks of this size. Optimised linking of the shoulder straps and the wide hip fins that literally “grow out” of the backpack ensure that the NEUTRALITE SYSTEM fits your body comfortably. It distributes the load over a large area and onto the hips. The aim is to position the backpack’s centre of gravity as close to the back as possible in order to create a unit with the wearer, which then ensures that the pack remains as stable as possible during downhill runs. The ergonomically shaped straps, with soft elastic padding, hug the shoulders, back and hips comfortably. This BODY-HUGGING fit prevents pressure points. In order to pack away small parts while carrying the backpack and without having to remove it, we have allowed for extra volume in the hip

pockets, with strategic positioning for easy access. The pockets can easily be securely closed again using the zip. This means no more irritating “packing breaks” – the backpack remains on your back and you can stay with the flow. Every user should be able to adjust the backpack precisely to their area of use and equip it according to their needs. The LINE SERIES therefore features a removable, front, multifunctional carrying system for snowboards, snowshoes and skis. LITESHIELD SYSTEM The core component of the protector backpack system is the extra-wide, ergonomically shaped neoprene hip belt with Velcro fastening and a large heavy-duty buckle. This system transfers the main load onto the hips, namely right to the body’s centre of gravity. At the same time, the ergonomically cut
shoulder straps keep the backpack comfortably in the predefined position to guarantee perfect back protection. Mesh elements, EVA foam with ventilation holes and a large, central ventilation channel ensure good air circulation.
LITESHIELD SYSTEM AIR This system combines the essential back proximity for a back protector with maximum back ventilation. The back area is close fitting and features a large, central ventilation channel as well as two rows of “ventilation grids”: air mesh-covered EVA foam strips with ventilation holes and a special gabled groove reduce the
contact surface on the back, which improves air circulation. The extra-wide, ergonomically shaped hip belt is made from our AIRO FLEX material. In this way, the main load – even in the case of a fully loaded backpack – is transferred to the hips, where it is fixed, while optimum breathability is ensured.

NEUTRALITE SYSTEM Our NEUTRALITE SYSTEM stands for a neutral and light carrying feeling of our backpacks. The weight distribution follows the concept of body hugging to keep the pack in position – even during action-loaded

OUTER MATERIALS You could summarise the must-haves for perfect outer material for backpacks and bags in four words: durable, abrasion-resistant, water-repellent and lightweight. And this is precisely what nylon offers. Depending on the area of use of the product, we work with various nylon fabrics that differ in weave and fibre strength to optimally support the product’s functionality. Some EVOC products have a high degree of water-resistance. These are made of our EVOC TARPAULIN, an innovative and environment-friendly material with excellent characteristics: PVC-free, extremely heavy-duty, very lightweight, waterproof and temperature-resistant.
High-stress sections are fitted with a polyester fabric, which is tear-proof, lightweight and moisture-resistant. That’s why we use it for the base constructions and heavily stressed sections of our products.
