These biotic foragers, known for their habit of burrowing holes in dams and irrigation canals, play an important part in the ecosystems in our river and dams. Australia’s recent ‘big wet’ floods, have brought about an abundance of this freshwater delicacy and backwaters and streams near the Darling and Murray rivers have yielded the highest quantities of yabbies in 15 years.
